  1. What about the Armenians, Sicily, Corscia, Sardonia, and other places?
  2. (Sorry, what I meant was the only kind of high schools these days that offer Latin ( and classical Greek too in my school) are Jesuit high schools. I'm referring only to the high school levels. Obviously a lot of universities would have latin for their classics program. Sorry to mislead)
  3. I find it corny LUCKNOW, India - This was no one-night stand. Scientists in India say they have discovered two fossils fused together in sexual union for 65 million years. The findings were published in the October edition of the Indian journal "Current Science," which said it was the first time that sexual copulation had been discovered in a fossil state, according to the Press Trust of India news agency. But voyeurs will need a microscope to view the eternal lovers. The fossils are tiny swarm cells, a stage in the development of the fungus myxomycetes, also known as slime molds. The cells reproduce by "fusing," Ranjeet Kar of the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany in Lucknow reportedly told PTI. Once the cells fuse, long, threadlike appendages known as flagella, are lost, he said. Finding the fossils in a fused position and with their flagella shed, is evidence that the two cells were having sex, Kar said. "The sexual organs being delicate and the time of conjugation short lived, it is indeed rare to get this stage in the fossil state," the study said. The cells were discovered in a 30-foot deep dry well in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
  4. Did the Romans have any specific or stereotypical visual image of her. And can you give a link to a picture please.
  5. No no, her kids turned out fine, though her son Tiberius didn't show much love for her(since he didn't deified her) while Claudius finally deified her Diva Agusta or Julia Augusta (name given to her by Augustus when he made her part of his lineage). I think you should mean Agrippina the Younger, now that woman the one who poisoned Claudius was a such a backstabber only to be backstabbed by her own son Nero.
  6. I'm a high school student from Chicago that goes to a Jesuit High School and that's how I came to learn the Latin Language and become a scholar because only Jesuit schools these days on the high school level in America.
  7. I most likely think you would find on the websites of college professors and few other rares sites. Mostly likely, you'll have to consult to the books. Anyways, a lot of the Roman consuls must have had the job of aedile, questor, tribune, legati, praefict,... sometime in their career before their consulship.
  8. Sometimes it makes me really wish that I could go back in time to find it out myself. I really do!
  9. Holy... I haven't seen anyone live with that much open space before. What a lovely area.
  10. Well this is a topic I'm not too good at. I don't think I know what satirists are. Is it the same as rhetoric?
  11. I like Franz Ferdinand, makes me want to shake my head to those cool sounds and beats on my IPOD.
  12. Justinian's dream was a false hope anyway because the Pope recognized that the Church finally had its own political power so he actually pretended that Justinian was the ruler Romae for a while. So the Pope planned to crown a novum imperatorem to counter Eastern emperors ruling the Church. So who happened to be in the spot for the job, it was Clovis, leader of the Franks. Clovis, who had a Christian wife, was outnumbered before a battle and his wife told him to appeal to God and so Clovis won the battle and decided to convert the Franks to Christianity. From there on, the Pope had politcal leadership and ties with the Merovingians(Frankish Dynasty)And so Charlemagne happened to come from Clovis family or the Merovingians. The Pope made a deal with Charlemagne to conquer the Lombards and Charlemagne would be the new emperor of the west to counter the eastern emperors.
  13. I'm just wondering, they won't be killed by stoning or clubbing right, just a swift beheading or cutting of the nervous system right?
  14. I despise Theodora because she is so devious and a backstabber. When Belisarius returned to Constantinople after his massively successful conquest of former Rome, Theodora just happened to convinced Justinian that Belisarius proved a threat to his rule, which I happened to think Belisarius was very loyal anyways, Justinian had Belisarius painfully tortured only to let him live as Belisarius the Blind and live his life out as a homeless and helpless. There goes what Belisarius could have done for the Empire and the army in the future.( I merely opinion) Oh also, whom or which Constantine is Honorius talking about?
  15. I support the fact that the Legion recruited from Thebias, Egypt did exist. I suppose that finding the bodies of the saints is evidence the Legion existed but I'm having a hard time believing that the Burgundians were Christians. Maximiam overusing the decimation theory works because who the heck knows how even to decimate a legion anymore in the late empire. The 6660 men legion could work since they were probably the first legion recruited from Egypt(correct me if I'm wrong) But the spear of Longinus is probably the biggest mystery, who knows, St. Maurice could have gotten it... What about the story of the Thundering Legion too : When Marcus Aurelius led an expedition against the Quadi in 174, his army, they got exhausted by thirst, and was at the point of weakness. Then the guys from Legio XII, which was composed of Christians, prayed to God for help. Then a huge thunderstorm arose, bringing the desired relief to the Romans, but terrifying and dispersing the barbarians. In act of good will M. Aurelius issued a decree forbidding the persecution of the Christians and to the Twelfth Legion he gave the surname of fulminata, or fulminea, that is, "thundering." So do you believe these two legions existed and their stories?
  16. Armenia is probably the key to deciding whether the Roman forces or the Parthian forces are victorious in any Parthian campaign.
  17. Its not a matter of who suffered more, but the matter that you should care for anyone who suffers. Also, what did it to make me despise(not hate) the Russian soldiers was the fact that they mercilessly raped 100,000 women and girls, not even the 8 year olds were spared. Sure it was revenge, but they must have some kind of morality.
  18. Apparently my decimation topic is still alive when I brought it up. Did the men with no fingers become archers unless they missed their middle finger or they were not handicapped at all?
  19. Not really, it might work if you just send some legatos to ask which town did it because then the innocent town wouldn't want to get razed. Back then, the fear tactic still worked with true results.
  20. Uhm our history section has all the dates and info on those specific people but I guess it would take a lot of time to read. I guess Ursus or Viggen can compilate it into their essay style posts of theirs for you.
  21. I suppose napalm would be better because we know we can improve it anytime for much deadlier potency. Sadly, we don't have Greek fire to improve.
  22. I wonder why I haven't gotten any of these scams in my email yet if you Brits seem to have alot of them.
  23. Over here in America, we have the do not call list and if they do call us, they will face the government's legal charges.
