  1. Today, I found out that my school library has the book of Juvenal. Well I should expect, we have somewhat a lot of books from Greek philosopers. Still not gonna read Juvenal, not really the type to understand philosohpical writings, just messes up my head.
  2. The problem is simply laziness, being a high school myself, I know it quite well. But its a good fact to know that their questions are actually essay-intended instead of the regular, " When was Rome found." If you want me to give you a better answer: In America, not too many schools with the classics language program have too many great quality teachers, nor resources. For example, the libraries in many schools barely have any real sources concerning indepth Roman history and culture. Not too many schools even have more than two copies of the Aeneid or the Odysseus. The students themselves are really not dedicated because it is a language which their parents really made them take(the minor rebellion factor) , most would prefer spanish. Luckily, my school has a program called the GCC, Global Communications Center, one of the only few in Illinois or even country:lol:. We have programs that teach the offerred languages, and the programs that teach Latin and Greek are really good, I use the Jenney's book and program. Our library also has lots of books concerning the Romans and lots of books from all the great Greek Philosophers. I even found a good book concerning the role of Women in the Greek and Roman Society. Also a book on somebody with the cognomen Plancus, can't remember full name. I also found that book which Skarr reviewed.
  3. Just wondering, does Milan have any relation to the Venetics.
  4. Psss, Caligula, watch out, your gonna get assassinated. Kill Claudius, destroy the Praetorian Guard,Cassius Chaerea, and Marcus Vinicius. Also, whatever you do, don't kill Macro. Caligula survives, and I get made a general. LOL It would have been better if I saved Germanicus, but Caligula is much more dramatic. Oh, also Caligula, your sister Druscilla, go for it man, make life what it should be. LOL
  5. Now that's a nice breed. I wonder if the Alaskan or Siberian Husky is the same is close in relation, genetically because they do kind resembler a whole lot.I also kinda think what you shown me, their long face kinda resembles a fox a quite lot I think.
  6. Well in the stories about Romulus, he was actually deified instead of by the Romans. Remember the part where a great light took him up. So he was basically already deified, not to mention he's considers a half-god because his father is the one and only Mars.
  7. Well the Romans never have had a term that denotes homosexuality, but knew all greatly what it was and as for the plebs who are more family-oriented, as I've mentioned before, they look homosexuality among the aristocrats as promiscuous and wrong, which having romours of having relations with men, especially young men, can be very jeopardizing to your career and among the plebs, especially in the cases of emperors or those vying for the imperium.
  8. Is Ben Hur fully accurate to your details? I've never seen the movies, just wondering if its accurate.
  9. Hmm, quite an unusual story I've never heard. Good thing that kid never touched the ground.
  10. Althought not real movies, I love every documentary that the Discovery and History Channel has made, especially the dinosaurs and Rome week. Real Movies: Gladiator, A Bridge Too Far, Saving Private Bryan, TNT's Julius Caesar( even though they made Caesar look like a wussie in the beginning) and countless other war movies.
  11. * Squints eyes in disbelievement* Wow, somebody must have been REAL DEDICATED.
  12. Is it me, or is it just that we seem to be getting more new users lately compared to what I've seen a year ago. I've actually know about this site, well not the forum part until I actually realized there was one and finally joined. I'm just wonder how many registered users are considered "active." I think the rate is almost about 2 new users a day.
  13. That was such a good movie, especially when the Roman soldiers taught Bryan the right to way to write Roman all night long.(Also the Ufo part was hilarious) Oh yes I got another name, Darth Vader( I've been watching too much EP, III, yeah I know its dry creativity, I just couldn't depise the name Vader.
  14. Thank you for clarifying that. How dumb of me to not realize that Goths were also Germans.
  15. I wonder if the Romans would ever use domestic(or just) wolve hybrids as pets.
  16. Hmm, never knew this topic existed. Dog soldiers I would have to say would be like a secondary necessitie for in battle roles; I don't mean to use them as a offensive weapon. Simply, it would be good to have them during a battle(id est if you ever seen Gladiator, a dog can come quite handy sometimes). Dogs weren't weapons, they were only just kept around for just the heck of it.
  17. Wait, isn't it suppose to be the Germans? I don't really know much about the Teutoberg forest.
  18. I simply believe the quintessential idea of what man can't physically explain in nature, man out of natural curiosity tries to explain it through human intuition and perception. Also when a culture is deeply influenced by the culture of its conquerers, the people simply try to adapt to the main beliefs. Who knows, what if the Etruscans never had any kind of relations with Rome. What significance would religion have in Roman culture. In a political point of view, worshipping the ideas and beliefs of a god that is a common consensus among the Romans may help the ambitions person lay claim to be the peoples patron because he might say that he is an descendant or that it was the mandate of the gods.
