  1. Whenever someone brings up honey as a medicinal treatment, I immediately think of Imhotep, whom utilized honey effectively when treating his patients.
  2. The berries sure do look poisonous just because of the extremely black coat.
  3. I believe mines is much older than yours (published in 1969), but it does not take a technical aspect about Roman Medicine. It takes an aspect of interpretion about the importance of medicine in Roman and Greek culture . The books is from a series of books about Rome, each book is on a different aspect of Rome and each by different authors. I believe these books originate from Cornell University. Here's also a review(seems to be harsh too) by my Dr. Scarborough on Cruse's book Link Oh by the way, does your book have many illustrations?
  4. I think you spelled bureaucracy wrong. Hmm. your medicine bookseems different from mines. Yours seem to take slightly a more religious aspect. By the way, my Roman Medicine is by John Scaborough.
  5. Obvious, I never thought about that. Thank you Tiberius for correcting me.
  6. Here's how I translated it: Archaeological News: Roman Empire Archaeologica Novella: Romanum Imperium and Archeological News : The World Archaeologica Novella: Mundus note: Mundus can also mean universe
  7. Hmm, I'm going to be bias and say, yup the Romans invented Hagis before you Scotts. Anyways, the Romans ate a weird assorment of foods thanks to the the immersion with other or conquered cultures, so I would believe it.
  8. It is the Dark ages after all. I mean its money after all, they don't care how money looks. Money is just money.
  9. I agree with Vespasion, Roman ideals during the Punic Wars were very different. Those ideals would have certainly made the Romans fight to the very last. Which is also another reason why the other city states rarely went over to Hannibals side. But also, you must not forget that Lucius Marcellus had cut off aid to Hannibal by conquering Sicily while Scipio was conquering Spain. So Hannibal really didn't have the resources to launch a siege or attack.
  10. Chemistry, egahhhhhhh, now I hate that subject, which I'm currently taking. But history, now I reign supreme( well not really, but I'm really good at it). By the way, if anyone needs help translating, I'll be around.
  11. I see that this thread is still alive. Hmm, I suppose I would want to meet Emperor Valens. Offtopic, but another person I would want to meet is Helen of Troy, yeah baby( if she exists.)Oh I also would want to meet Jesus Christ, the Lord himself.
  12. That's a tragedy, I can only assume that a fired destroyed them. Favonius, the example you gave, can you give more details about why or what made the quindecimviri want to bury a Gallic and Greek couple in the forum.
  13. So if homosexuals in the ancient world had a marriage-like binding relationship, who gets the dowry and what about the family aspect?
  14. Uh, only 35,000 soldiers in the Navy right? Is that number actually the number of sailors in the British Navy? If not, anyone Brit. want to tell me how big the British Fleet is nowday in comparision to the US fleet.
  15. All these posts seem to be good views of cats in the word. Here in the US, we seriously have a problem, and I mean its a huge problem, in Wisconsin( I don't live there). The problem I would have to blame on careless pet-owners. In Wisconsin, an estimate of 1.2 million ferile stray cats dwell and the problem, they've been killing song birds at a rate of 8,000,000 a year. So if anyone happens just find out a text in the ancient mentioning a problem with overpopulation, don't be surprised.
  16. That's a nice old-fasioned British school. My my... the school is so stereotypical of British schools. Not that that's bad, it just that I'm right, these British schools look like ivy-league all the way.
  17. Don't bother watching it. I thought it was horrible over here in the US.
  18. Well, I'm able to learn latin because I go to a Jesuit school, so we're Catholic and our ancestral linguistic root is latin. But I'm not so sure how many public schools teach latin or for what reason, maybe they just want their students to learn latin so it can help them in other subjects or in the future, being a lawyer or docter... Don't worry Tiberius, learning latin may be hard because you have to memorize so much stuff, the word order is complex, and recogizing the types of structure of sentences such as double datives, indirect commonads, and hundreds of uses of he ablatives may be hard. BUT, IF YOUR DEDICATED, LATIN WILL COME BY EASY.
  19. That would be an absurdingly heavy sword. I doubt it would be put to good use in a pitched battle again the legion, unless in a skirmish or ambush.
