  1. Ursus, can you name a few that actually had the Cicero's school of thought after Pius Antoninus' death?
  2. Pius Deique patriaeque familiae sum. or Pius et Dei et patriae et familiae sum. I not sure if loyal is an adjective or adverb, so i made it an adjective. I'm not sure about word order of pius either.
  3. You must remember that we're just stating the many problems which plagued Rome, obviously a lot of them occured regularly and maybe at the same time. But not to the least say that one of them had a greater effect, for example, I would think the Barbarian horde is hugely responsible for turning the army into something that could turn into a serious rebellion at any moment. The barbarians(not militarily) no longer helped Rome, but fed off of its resources like a parasite. Meanwhile the moral and political decay of the Romans made the government so ineffective to stand up against the barbarians. The daily functions of the government and services such as sanitation and other stuff was of unimportance, which resulted in the suffering of the plebs and easy picking for an epidemic. You've gotta remember that Byzantine is Rome, so really its more of structural decay of the West while the conditions in the East allow its to stand and prosper as it was like during the West's existence. Side note: the use of the word Epoch can be used, but its rarely used in discussing Roman history, the word applies more to anthropology than it does Rome.
  4. Uhm there's always Limewire, thats where I got mines. Is it me or that its that your profile states that you were born on Feb 3 1990(my birthday)
  5. Uh...I'm wrong but... a After a few moments' deep thought,
  6. Oh Cato, your still stern as ever, the Republic-lover. So what happens then if another general who wanted to be imperator decided to try to usurp your power. What would you do Cato?
  7. It could be any really, but Victor means conquerer, victor, and triumphant and so it denotes more in a sense: victorious supremecy. The word victrix just denotes conquering, but not it does not point out whether or not if its victorious. Its like an adjective trying to say you're a forceful conquerer instead of a victorious one.
  8. Now that you've mentioned it, it does look Hobbish.
  9. You know, the thumb is more likely pointing at the throat or making a cut your throat jesture with the thumb, meaning kill him. Tamen, keep up the excellent work K.
  10. I don't know if its an epic, but I'd like to see the building of Hadrian's wall and how it subdued Pictish incursions. The lord of the rings, the two towers gave me the idea. Just imagine the Romans defending the walls from the Pictis.
  11. Is it me or that this story kinda resembles the 10 lost tribes of Israel? I find the story doubtful.
  12. I've tried all the problems, man am I horrible at this.
  13. Yeah, having a pretty slave girl serve, but then you'll also have a good chance of an assassin behind you ready strike while that beautiful girl is charming you. Being a senator is risky.
  14. "Empire of the Gauls?" Was there really ever one after Nero?
  15. Currently right now, the situation in Chicago is very dire and deadly. When I got out of school today from Advent Liturgy mass, I was suddenly greeted by a snowstorm(out at suburbs). An hour later when I got home, I discovered that it was even worse where I lived in Chicago, right near the lakefront, the snow was blinding, and as now its STILL snowing and has been for the last 8-10 hours. It's so bad that regular traffic on commutes have become 3 times the total time. Example, don't even bother try getting to O'hare airport by car, it'll only be a 2-4 hour bumper to bumper ride. Now I mentioned about a deadly part, I'm sad to inform that an Southwest airplane broke through a barrier at Midway airport due the extremely runway being slippery. There is no one to blame because with it bad already, the airport maintenance was extremely busy clearing and defrosting the runstrips, yet nature is unrelenting and the airstrips being cleared 24/7.Sadly, when the plane broke through the barrier it hitted two cars. Even more unfortunate, the front of the plane hit a car dead on, which the car happened to be carrying 5 passengers. Sadly, a 6 year old boy died later at the hostipal due to the incident, he was in the car. I'm just trying to inform our fellow Americans that the weather is really horrible and I'm just wondering how or now that you should be preparing for a bad snowstorm.
  16. That's gonna certainly cause a little havoc considering Manhattan is so compact.
  17. Wow Valentinian, you are just what people in America perceive as a stereotypical European these days. Jez, talking about a stagnant economy. I would say more, but would yet again incur the mods wraths.
  18. Which is why incentives are given for the Crusaders to stay, but then somehow it would just make the Byzantine Empire into possibly a feudal state with a mercenary army by giving the Crusaders land in return for protection. The same thing with the Normans in France. Really, all the Crusaders needed was territory which trade routes run through.
  19. I'm just wondering, how did the our ancestors from Africa arrived into that part of Europa.
  20. Ubi ea est? ---> In auroram discedit. (or you can use ortum or orientem instead of auroram but I like how auroram sounds cool ) I'm not sure your if your trying to say whether if she is in the sunrise but most probaly your looking for off "into" the sunrise. There is no definite word for off, so I'm going to use the word discedo which means to depart,go away, leave, in a sense, the word can denote she is "leaving off" into the sun.
  21. I think the both of them can be applied to question since they were both part of Rome's culture and we do see both type of religions influencing part of modern culture today.Probably Christianity since the Pagan religion doesn't have much of an influence compared to Christianity on Western culture, specifically, with the exceptions of things such as Halloween here in America.
  22. You do realize being a senator has a really good chance of getting executed if your deemed a liability and a threat to the imperator. You might as well could have been killed for supporting an unpopular imperator. Politics may be even more deadly than a campaign where you really only fight during the late spring to the full summer to late fall. Not to mention if you have a good leader, you've got a good chance of surviving.
