  1. I think its referring to the Gracchi brothers who wanted to give citizenship to all Roman allies, but sadly the plebeians at Rome didn't like the idea of them being equal to foreigners. Not to mention that during that period, the plebeians had basically no civil rights and plebeians no longer could rely on farming to make a living because of the patricians who believed it was their duty to rule the plebeians and do whatever they want, also the large plantations runned by mainly slaves and owned by wealthy patricians were devastating any chances of making a profit or living out of agriculture for every plebeian. Thus the plebeians had it and marched out of Rome to create their own city and so on... too long to explain. I hope that's the social war that it's talking about.
  2. Over here in Illinois, there's actually a whole community of people whose houses each are all covered in lights and those lights blinking is controlled by a computer. You have to pay if you want to see the show though.
  3. The Orthodox Church yep, theirs might be Jan 6th or sometime during that period. As for Catholics, the "old traditional"(meaning we may be off) Dec. 25
  4. I sure love those discovery channel documentaries on dinosaurs and sea monsters.
  5. I would support the Constantinian Dynasty(which can also include the Valentinian Dynasty since they are a continuation of the bloodline through the marriages and offspring.)
  6. Pertinax, you do realize you have like five verbs, 3 adverbs, and no actual noun except for the relative pronoun hoc in one sentence that does not make sense or have the right word order or something. I get a sense that you're trying say : If you can fasten in this bolt I will bequeath you graciously train and be near too much. Awkward. Really Awkard
  7. Unsuspecting workmen have unearthed mysterious medieval artefacts below Lichfield's Cross Keys car park. Plans to construct the controversial multi-storey car park were passed by Lichfield District Council in October and work began on the site last month. But in recent days, nearby residents noticed that development had stopped, with workmen apparently staring and pointing at structures within the site. Link to Article
  8. The Venus Throw: A Mystery of Ancient Rome The Venus Throw is one of nine volumes in the Roma Sub Rosa series written by Steven Saylor. The exposition of The Venus Throw is set in mid-January 56 B.C. at mainly Rome. To those who know about it, that year was the year when Julius Caesar defeated the Veneti in the most decisive battle by naval action in the Battle of Gulf of Morbihan. Other events of the year 56 B.C. is tied nicely well into the novel....
  9. Eat, sleep, drink, Starbucks, Borders, and the movie theater.
  10. UUUU, nice scenery, but sorry if you had to endure any hardships.
  11. My dictionary gives lorus and habena habena. They don't necessarily mean g-string but a thong, rather a leather strap or whip. Underwear is intulus.
  12. Lol, if you took latin, this would come by really easy and you can actually use this part of the movie to actually learn latin. Its so funny that the centurion corrected him all night, then he leaves, next you know is two more Roman soldiers come and they chase Brian, then somehow he ended in an alien spacecraft( I really wonder how they did that special effect) Lol...
  13. About one in 20 adults in the U.S. is not literate in English, meaning 11 million people lack the skills to handle many everyday tasks, a federal study shows. From 1992 to 2003, adults made no progress in their ability to read sentences and paragraphs or understand other printed material such as bus schedules or prescription labels. That's really scary info.
  14. So if you were made governor of Britannia, by what standards were you a senator?
  15. I remember seeing the falx being used in action for a History Channel documentary on the Legions in Dacia, my was it scary. The helmets of soldiers were basically cut like cardboard. Thus, the new helmets were outfitted with strong braces, which really helped.
  16. Sadly I've not seen the movie in its entirity. I only got up to the stations of Jesus. Lol, " They gave us piggies."
  17. Yes, follow Cato's advice, but I like to point out to you his screen name is "Cato," if you know what I mean . Politics is politics.
  18. "I've got to forgive them, my family and I still stand by what we believe - forgiveness." Perhaps I'm wrong but I find that the problem is that they focused on only the mother, yet not what the other relatives said."We are satisfied with the verdict but we are not celebrating. We have no reason to be jubilant, because that will not bring Anthony back." She forgives yet she says she is not jubilant, I have a feeling that she could express a subdued anger. She is certainly a model women. If someone killed your kid and he was convicted and sentenced to death, what choice would you choose? Would you stand by and let him die or want him alive to make an example out of him. As of now, we're at 1003 executed. Yet they may be a little unrest in the public, the nation still hasn't focused enough on the subject because something else like Iraq and the economy is definitely on our mine. Oh by the way if you google death penalty, only believe the statistics because these sites are biased even though their title seems like a government website. Serious right after the against death penalty site, there's a pro-death penalty site.
  19. At least you get to take pictures. My friend told that at the Pompeii exhibit, I freaking can't take pictures and that means I can't post those pictures on here. Damn the Italian government, its like they hate us or something.
  20. Did Trajan do this out of love? Was his relationship with his wife happy?
  21. Apparently, what if someone just decided one day to kill your child, the dearest thing to you in the world. What would your initial action be? Anyways, though you may forgive the killer, some in your family or relatives definitely want the guy dead. Vengeance can easily be a subconscious thought. You may think that you can be passive, but there's always a thought of payback. Also, if looked at the stories of the families victimized, rarely will you find a story that say the killer is forgiven. America is just not like Europe. Anyways, even if the family want the guy to live, the jury is a tough nut to crack. Neither the fact that the federal government is merciful.
