  1. The main character from Half-Life, definitely since he kicks... I still don't know much about him, care to enlighten some info Favonius?
  2. Darn, I need to get a new dictionary. I have a vocabulary of mixed latin origins(including Church latin), so don't mind me. Sorry, I was using NeoLatin words, so its not classical then. But then again, promachus is of Greek origin which means one who leads.
  3. Another minor reason was that before Caracalla, citizenship mattered much and that way, the provinces could never equal Rome. But when universal citizenship was given and the old traditions died, the Italian mainland no longer held significance over other provinces, everyone was the same. Only the imperium mattered and that later only mattered with the army instead of the citizens.
  4. My, I never knew Agrippina the Elder look that beautiful. I wonder if it is the same with the other Agrippinas' .
  5. Filius viri ( or herois) or Filius campionis ( or promachi meanign champion) Sorry, I have no expertise on this. In terms of "Son of a hero or god," they would think in terms that you were the son of a legendary general or god. Same as believing that Octavianus was great because his father Julius Caesar was a god. Anything having to do with glory would make people assume that person was great and so would his children be too. Again, my expertise here sucks.
  6. The author Andre Norton went into that territory I believe. Sadly, Andre Norton recently died after her 93rd birthday.
  7. I believe that I would prefer Mercury. Slow ailing health isn't too bad. are you aware of the phrase "mad as a hatter" and its origin? I know the phrase, but not the origin. Do you mind explaining?

  9. I have to support my guy Constantine you know. Being able to rule without hindrince from others can sometimes be significant.
  10. A bit late to say Merry Christmas don't you think? I hope this helps, its from UNRV itself : Link to UNRV economy Remember at the top that each part has a subsection. But I don't think it focuses on specific provinces.
  11. Little info on early Germanics! This is more than I have ever read about Greece. It looks like a really comprehensive site. But I do have one problem. His incessant use of abbreviations and a bunch of Germanic terms which I have no idea are, which he doesn't bother explain. Its probably best for a German reader.
  12. Why does everything have to include wine and alcohol. Oh wels, I'm never going to touch those things. Nice comparison by the way :"( camel is best , goat will do if you are poor-never use cow's milk ,that would make you no better than a gaul!)"
  13. at yahoo What an amazing cat: COLUMBUS, Ohio - Police aren't sure how else to explain it. But when an officer walked into an apartment Thursday night to answer a 911 call, an orange-and-tan striped cat was lying by a telephone on the living room floor. The cat's owner, Gary Rosheisen, was on the ground near his bed having fallen out of his wheelchair. Rosheisen said his cat, Tommy, must have hit the right buttons to call 911. "I know it sounds kind of weird," Officer Patrick Daugherty said, unsuccessfully searching for some other explanation. Rosheisen said he couldn't get up because of pain from osteoporosis and ministrokes that disrupt his balance. He also wasn't wearing his medical-alert necklace and couldn't reach a cord above his pillow that alerts paramedics that he needs help. Daugherty said police received a 911 call from Rosheisen's apartment, but there was no one on the phone. Police called back to make sure everything was OK, and when no one answered, they decided to check things out. That's when Daugherty found Tommy next to the phone. Rosheisen got the cat three years ago to help lower his blood pressure. He tried to train him to call 911, unsure if the training ever stuck. The phone in the living room is always on the floor, and there are 12 small buttons
  14. Link to article Full article here: During November and December, French Customs officials in southern France seized nearly 17,800 archaeological objects taken illegally from Morocco and Mali, announced the French minister for the Economy, reported MAP news agency. The first confiscation, which took place in Arles on Nov 15, was the most important of these operations, since the Customs officials discovered more than 17,600 archaeological objects in a vehicle registered in Morocco and on its way to Germany. These objects included very valuable fossils from southern Morocco, such as
  15. Oh...I love sci-fi, but this thing here doesn't seem appealing at all.
  16. When glance at latin, you notice immediately that cum means with and used with an ablative. But then what you don't realize is that has greater usage. It's pretty complicated though.
  17. The Roman language is complex. What makes it more complex is its numerous different uses of cases and clauses. This one being fearing clause shows that the Romans paid special attention to fear, obviously enough.
  18. We talk often on about which book and movie is good, but not many actually pointed out their favorite. So what is your favorite book and movie, or even perhaps an adaptation of a book? Mine would be the Talented Mr. Ripley(movie/adaptation) and The Glass Menagerie(book, but then I don't like unhappy endings).
  19. I suppose humor and conservatism is what also separates us too.
  20. Responding to Spurius' blog, I'm sad to hear that. I hope life takes a better approach for your family from now on.

  22. Hello to 2006 here in Chicago! The fireworks are just amazing at the Lakefront.
