Link to full article Earthquakes were responsible for the destruction of a Minoan settlement on the island of Karpathos. That was the conclusion drawn following excavations conducted last year at Fournoi Afiatis on Karpathos under the direction of Manolis Melas, a professor of archaeology. The dig was part of a research program by the Dimokritio University of Thrace. The ceramic fragments scattered about the fields facing the buildings and stratigraphic data showed that the area to the northeast of the settlement was first used in the Minoan palatial era. But the excavation revealed that some 2,000 years later, at the end of the Late Roman period, the area was again in use. The dig began in 2001 and uncovered the remains of stone foundations and the floors of two houses and also of farm walls from the same period...

Analyzing Ancient Historians
FLavius Valerius Constantinus replied to Primus Pilus's topic in Imperium Romanorum
Quite frankly, in my opinion, statiscal data about the aftermath does not matter at all. What matters is the 'fallout' and consequences of the Gallic War such as famine, mass starvation, resources become devastated, et alia and many of it is due to the scorch earth policy and our course Caesar. -

Oh, then why not give the damn government access to the data. All they're really gonna due is just stop kids from watching *or* and prosecute the *or* sites for them doing so. -
Con Flab It!
FLavius Valerius Constantinus commented on Sextus Roscius's blog entry in Judicii Sexti Roscii.
Well, you can blame the Clinton administration and the EU. They absolutely did nothing when Iran was beginning an effort for nuclear power. So Bush got stuck with this issue but Al-Qaeda and terrorists activities distract us so much and in Iraq with the insurgents(whom I can shoot all in the head mercilessly). However, Iran has economic powers over us which is why we haven't invaded them yet Sextus. They are the 4th largest producer of oil, meaning more than 2.5 million barrels of oil per day. That certainly would spike the gas prices up. -
Political Ramblings
FLavius Valerius Constantinus commented on FLavius Valerius Constantinus's blog entry in Cotidiana Res Meo Vitae
Its obvious we will have to take decisive action, but how is the question? But another problem is even if we do, what about the oil production which the Iranian control which is why if we take military action, its needs to be damn quick. Also, you've got the damn hippies(Amnesty International, ignorant select Europeans who hate war no matter the good cause, et alia) and Democrats who absolutely hate war. So far, we can control the Korea situation because they are domestically dying and they will eventually have to bargain with us and they really have no economic power over us. Iran is a different issue because of the oil. -

Sure the goverment can go spying on all of us. I mean its easy as heck, but they have no reason to unless they strongly believe you are deemed a threat to the state. So really, let's not overreact. And about the NSA stuff, well its not even determined if he even went overboard yet. Who knows, it could have been perfectly legal under the Patriot Act. Not matter, this power of Bush actually improves our fight against terrorism. Speed is of the essense. And Sextus, about child pornography, you should worry about because it is a big issue even if terrorism is still the dominate issue. Ask a parent and they would say it matters much. It affects thousands which in effect affects thousands more. Not to mention child pornography leads also to sexual predators. SO it is a big issue in any country. -
School Dig Uncovers Roman Grave
FLavius Valerius Constantinus replied to Viggen's topic in Archaeological News: Rome
Maybe by the Christian era, cremation was no longer a strong practice. Christian influence and majority maybe doesn't allows for cremation any more.Quote " He had been buried orientated north-south which indicates he was a pagan, as Christian graves are normally east-west." Nothing unusual really. -
In light of Martin Luther King Day, Hillary Clinton has proven to me that she is a fake and ignorant person. First of all, she's trying to attract Republican voters by saying all this stuff about being tougher on Iran, terrorism, et alia. But it's all so obvious her intentions are false. Next thing she does is by playing the race card and call the House of Rep a plantation. I mean seriously woman! Are you that much of an a-hole! I mean if a Republican said that, he would get massacred by the media. Also, the mayor of New Orleans said that he wants New Orleans to be a 'chocalate' city again.(Wow, that's just stupid.) So in 2008, I would just like everyone to NOT vote for Hillary. However, do not worry, there is good reason JOHN McCAIN will run for the 2008 presidency and he will definitely win. Also, I would like to point out that the Iran nuclear situation can only be resolved by the military option. Sanctions will not do much because Europe and the US can't avoid having the gas prices spiking. The only other real improbably option is to help the youths of Iran start an uprising and overthrow the government.

Child Pornography is a very serious problem in this country, very serious. Getting this data is actually important because there are actually ways of utilizing it that won't be disclosed by the government. Maybe the data will tell the government which websites will harm children and they in turn will prosecute those websites. Who knows, there are lots of things deemed implausible. However, no matter what, Google will eventually have to cooperate. By the way, if you haven't noticed, their shares in the economy went down considerably in light of the government controversey. Not a good thing to fight the governement. -
No, I've never seen that before

Gloriae Exerciti
FLavius Valerius Constantinus replied to JonWayne's topic in Renuntiatio et Consilium Comitiorum
Jon Wayne, you're wrong. Exercitus *cough* its fourth declension. Anyways, Gloria Exercitus is just fine because the phrase can idiomatically be translated so many ways. -

Did The Romans Use Metal Nails To Make Crosses?
FLavius Valerius Constantinus replied to a topic in Imperium Romanorum
I have a feeling that the Romans didn't really care, metal or wood, as long as the thing held together. -
English to Latin Translation
FLavius Valerius Constantinus replied to Cyrus's topic in Lingua Latina
I'll bet you a penny you are, if your are right, keep the change! I figured I was taking things to literaly.... Don't get too cocky Flavius, the main difference in our latin knowledge is vocabulary... I'll catch up at some point. Oh me, pompous? Heavens no, but don't worry, the next difference that's going to set us is when I learn Greek next year and master it, during that time, you can catch up all you want. -
English to Latin Translation
FLavius Valerius Constantinus replied to Cyrus's topic in Lingua Latina
Haha, you take things so literally. Miserum also designates poor conditions which really means they are poor. Plus, there is no exact word in latin for poor. Would it be better if I used the word unfortunate/infelix instead which is the same meaning in context with miser. You get the drift...when it comes to latin, you've gotta take translations very idiomatically. You'll learn that later on in latin... Oh also, I might be wrong on the translation... -
