  1. I'm not Irish, but I though that it was appropriate to start this thread since today is St. Patrick's Day. Remember, the Church is allowing us Catholics cornbeef and cabbage.
  2. I have no specific answers, but if you are interested in the Roman view of Germany, read Tacitus on Germania It's a good read, and I'm sure the answer is in there somewhere.
  3. As far as I know: Carthaginians, Gauls, Numidian, Campanians (specifically the Italian states captured by Hannibal or allied with him)
  4. So today is Caesar's death and somehow our class got into a discussion of why the Romans preferred tellings the dates by referring to whose consulships..., e.g. : Caesare et Bibulo consulibus (abl. absolute) ? So the question is, why did the Romans rather use the consulships instead of direct years as a marker, eg: 69 B.C.? Even more complicated is using the Kalends, Ides, and Nones. It's even more complicated in Latin. So why did the Romans prefer using this complex system for telling days of the months? Because of this complicated Roman style, its no wonder the Roman dates are way off...thank goodness Caesar knew how to fix it.
  5. Sadly, it only got 9 million viewers=not very good.
  6. Holy...that map looks amazing. Sadly, I have no means of credit card to use to pay. I'm still only 16. If there is a way to pay for it by cash thru mail, let me know?
  7. They did use undermining of some sort at Jerusalem with Titus didn't they ? Uhm weren't the Jewish rebels cooped on a hill though, so how would mining work? Didn't the Romans also built a huge ramp to reach the top too?
  8. Point already taken, but that part I can't really apply to the mystery because most of the Christians were Gentile which meant they weren't circumcised. Anyways, Paul preached to uncircumcised people. The circumcision issue only applied to Judea and surrounding nearby areas where the Jewish converts demanded Gentiles be circumcised, but Rome is different I suppose.
  9. Some or if any may notice that I'm as of lately rarely inactive. I have very good reasons: 1) For about a whole month, high school made a serious challenge on me, the RESEARCH ESSAY.The extra hassle was that I had a teacher who absolutely loved grading papers and she has very high standards which I barely live up to. So there goes weeks of my life spent writing and writing and writing...writing. We had to focus our essay on the subject of 20th century American authors. I first got stuck with Sarah Orne Jewett, who has an incredible online source, but a very horrific lack of textual sources. For three days I wasted time searching for a biography of an author which the task was hard as heck to find books like those in nearby libraries or even college ones. I was advised by a school aid to change authors and so I did. I changed to BERNARD MALAMUD, now he's a cool cat. I absolutely like this author, he says so many interesting things concerning morality and basically extentilism, a weird philosophy. But sadly, he didn't have a biography because he admits he's very private, so barely got by the first part in my essay with a general biography. Weeks later, I've exhausted myself and turned the 'monstrosity" in. 2) After the essay, now athletics have made a call to me. It's that time of year again for lacrosse season. My, how I hate condition in sports. All you do is run, run, run... otherwise, lots of stick skills and catching. Then I have these idiotic freshmens who suck so bad, but hey, its the first week of practice. Just hope our team won't suck this year. Our practices last from 3:30 - 5:45/6:00, now that sucks. When practices ends, I make an tiring drive home. When I get home, I'm too damn sore and sleepy, so I really have no time to give UNRV a long visit. So I hope I have more time to participate. Oh by the way, has anyone watched the History Channel's Boudicca documentary? I must say, I love it!
  10. I would say Nero was horrible, but he only strengthened Christian resolve. But Diocletian's persecution was pointless massacre.
  11. I'm sure Lacertus will like this, except his ears are too SMALL.
  12. I find it hard to think of any people who have been more brutal and barbaric than Europeans. The Mongols! Obviously there was Temujin and his descendants, especially Timur the Lame who were all brutal.
  13. No, it's just that the question should be "who was more brutal?" If I had to choose, I'd put the emphasis on Ottoman brutality.
  14. So are modern Greeks today still have pure bloodlines for such a proud race?
  15. Amazing work...but the wings look stiff...a little more curve
  16. like the flowers...in my opinion...charcoal and pink chalk make the greatest combination.
  17. It's kind of hard to believe that scientists still haven't found out much about "this time period." Well after watching a discovery channel documentary, it was made obvious to me that it was the Europeans(maybe from Iberia) who've reached America first by thousands of years before the Bering Straight land mass appeared. They were possibly pushed offcourse by Atlantic storms, which back then were by larger and fiercer today, when they were hunting after the seals. I don't wanna offend the tribes...but the Kennewick man obviously has no clear connection with the Indian tribes which Sextus was kinda implying...so really...it's the government's job now to rule and they rule in favor of the scientists.
  18. I believe mostly Sydney, but other places too, I don't pay attention much but I definitely know there are some in Sydney and nearby areas.
  19. Do ladders count? I mean really, how would you not use ladders in siege warfare during classical times.
  20. How I envy all my cousins that live in Austrailia(not kidding...half my dad's family line now live in Austrailia)
  21. In connotation, we seem imperialistic. But literally, we're 'not!' Imperialistic is when we actually call Iraq an American state/territory/colony/whatever. Get it straight, we're not imperialistic.
  22. Obviously how is an army going to be victorious without a strategy and tactics.
