  1. I don't think it was a matter of who was Roman, but nothing other than political slandering because I think the real issue is sucession. Who would control over who after their predecessor. Calling the Greeks not Roman was merely an attempt at legitimizing the West's pursuit of domince over the east and vice versa with the East. One instance concerns a Eastern Roman Empress, can't remember her name, but the Pope viciously tried to illegitimize her rule.
  2. If someone discovered the exact compositions and ingrediants of Greek Fire today, we would have a new Weapon Of Mass Destruction...that in my view is how deadly it is since technological advancements are endless...Greek Fire will be manipulated easily. However, that's not to say that there aren't deadlier or better forms/weapons today that is the equivalent of Greek Fire in the past.
  3. Quite frankly, you are no different from any of us. Just stay a Romanophile and don't be afraid to voice your opinions and disagree with others. However, there are some personalities too strong for you. Good luck.
  4. I like how you think Moonlapse. But what factions would we seperate into?
  5. My my...you've proven my point. Such topics like this turn evoke extreme arrogance out of people and into barking mad dogs...(no disrespect)... Anyways...you can't compare someone from the past with the modern who live in very different situations. Also...you don't even know Bush and Augustus in a personal manner...can't go calling them things that don't reflect a well-mannered human being.
  6. I must say...from all the liberal comments I've seen... you people are vicious... no wonder there has never been an extreme leftist liberal as president in these few decades. Tflex is a conservative...so what...attack for his views but not as whole person for some of those out there. Anyways, with the stupid talk of oil, let me say a little fact. The reason I see why America suffers over oil is that the damn corporations like Exxon won't budge on creating more refineries...so they can get more money from high prices... Not to mention, the damn Canadians have more than enough oil in their ground to supply the whole world for decades... Forget Canada...people say oil is unrenewable... if so, there's still a hell lot of it out there still untapped(courtesy of the History Channel documentaries).
  7. And if you want to be more serious, replace all the Vs' with U and anything latin should be uppercase. As for the Bellum Arena(which means 'sand' by the way) why not simply recall it Amphitheatrum or Certamen or something like that.
  8. Apparently its slow on the boards today, so I'll help you out. There is no such form as 'mertius.' What you want is the perfect tense using the supine form--> Meritus sum, but thats for male gender. Since you are a girl, its Merita sum. BY the way, mereo, mereri, meritus sum is deponent. Final answer: Pennam meam merita sum. For something simple, I might have stupid errors. So someone else may correct me.
  9. I can't help it but be angry when any WWII documentary featured in America shows nothing but stereotypical stuff about the German army. It would just say the Germans this or that(sometimes demonized), but never about the single individual soldier himself. I've never seen a full documentary focused on the German military other than the ones on the Nazis and SS.
  10. Oh there's no doubt these two empires had some sort of contact. The only thing that frustrates members of the forums is the repeated claims of zealots that China is better and more advanced than Rome militarily...blah blah blah(you get the drift), and that claim has no merit. I just call it arrogant false ideology.
  11. Great find Viggen. HBO..finally. How do you even find these things.
  12. Was your grandfather in the Wehrmacht or Waffen SS?
  13. Just wondering, is there anyone doing Constantine the Great. Because I'm deciding to do him.
  14. Sadly for learners of classical Latin, we have no actual words for yes and no but rather repeat the sentence just asked by the questioner including keyword desginations for Yes or No. Nonne is the designation for yes while Num is for no. Well I might be wrong. So I have no idea how Vulgar latin or any other Latin derived language developed single actual yes or no words.
  15. Caligula made a horse a senator, but to my knowledge, only humans were senators in the Repubic (although there was this one guy who pretended to be the descendent of Venus). I hope people will understand that Caligula was just joking in contempt of the annoying Senate. He probably was like, "You Senators do nothing but plot against me, even that horse there would be a better and active senator."
  16. Sure I would marry a provincial if she was beautiful (for the sake of how my offspring would look) and if her family had adequate money and status and background(such as grandfather in Roman wars). Link to article <----That link is UNRV's own article on marriage. Read it and you should have almost all you need.
  17. My Lord, group E certainly is the group of death. It can go any way, the US should hope Italy wins against the Czechs by a lot and that the US need to beat Ghana. I suppose three goals should be sufficient if the points become a mess. But I can't help think, do you think the whole group deserves to advance rather than some other teams from an undeserving teams from groups like for example Group H and F with the exceptions of Brazil and Spain and maybe Austrailia.
  18. Have you tried goat brains...just kidding.
  19. You're welcome...now if I could only find one on the real Constantine.
  20. I happen to find a three part documentary on Caesar and the Celts. ENJOY! It's not great but a good video. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
  21. In mea sententia Well, actually, Greek is easier than latin. Greek is confusing sometimes but its rules are straightforward. As for Latin, since has some close relationship with Greek, it developed more complications. There are so many irregular things and rules. Not to mention, the constructions sometimes can be really difficult. Lastly, Latin has lots of versatility since you can write in so many styles with your own preference, eg Julius Caesar, Cicero, and other writers have their own style and adjusting is kind of hard. Also, the endless uses of the ablative really kills while Greek doesn't have it because it uses the accusative more.
  22. Talk about Greek, I've just started learn the Ancient Greek. And right now its a complete mess(not really), but just so many damn new terms and charts to learn. And going from Latin to the Greek alphabet is such a huge confusion. Hardest Greek alphabets in my opinion to memorize and pronounce(in words) is xi and eta.
  23. Talk about being negative...every team has a chance. You guys make it sound like Italy is way better than the Czechs(of course they're not).
