  1. So specially...the topic is the Life in the Legions...as LW suggested and all agrees. Or is something else you have in mind Primus. May I suggest another topic: What events and circumstances transformed the Republic into Empire.
  2. You can only dispute sources with other sources (op. cit., PP iv). Well you said my intention. There's a very good possibility of one source that will challenge(disclaim) another source. So who will you believe is right? As in other situations of this kind, both views would be included by the editor. It is not taking the place of the arena or any other forum. I hope so to God that he does not turn the flaws of Academia into an Arena. But the question of editor, will we have enough for each topic because I sure know people would just love to voice out and support out their understanding vigorously

  4. It seems clear to me that the cause of all this is just that someone is fedup with the Arena forum. Well hello, the consequence what you say in the Arena is subjected to criticism of the malevolent kind, in fact, with the level of intelligence and very outspoken personalities on UNRV now, it is assured someone will disagree with you. Even with the Academia, you'll put forth one view or just a subject...but even the citations are subjected to severe criticism. Another point, the sources is also like debating in Arena. People will claim this or that source is nonsense and that leads to another argument.
  5. It's quite obvious why you chose Constantine...
  6. An average phone bill is high big talkers. IF you get a plan for 30 dollars and little minutes since you don't talk a lot, no worries.
  7. Are you serious about the cellphone...!!! Credit doesn't have much to do with buying a phone...though I guess its the monthly payment they are worried about.
  8. Don't bother, classical Greek...you seriously need an actual teacher or tutor. There are lots of things the text is missing that only a teacher can fill. Not to mention...you need someone to drill since after a while, the language looks unbearable.
  9. At least the Arena isn't going to anyone, if it does, must be someone unbiased. Perhaps Despotes(transliterated word from Greek) would work better than tyrant. Seeing the word tyrant might new users think the new mods have absolute bullying power. Also there is the added irony of a 'good tyrant.' So just how do you establish such topics? Anyways, anyone up for Catholicism and Asian history?
  10. Well there aren't any online programs that translates Latin...but there are professional sites on the web that you can pay "legitimate" people who know the language well to do whatever you want...however I won't go into further detail.
  11. Da Bears of Chicago. I can only wish friggin Lovie Smith would start Bryan Griese, he is our savior.
  12. An exception that I would mention is the corruption of police when it comes to illegal drugs. They are incredibly valuable due to prohibition. I have a family member that witnessed this type of corruption first-hand as a policeman, so I tend to believe the commentary on the subject. Yes, the drug prohibition laws are a major source of corruption. Among other things, the laws that allow the police to confiscate property and keep it for themselves is a huge invitation to corruption, on top of the corruption that has to hapen when the government attempts to ban any popular commodity. As just one example, I briefly lived in a county in the southern US which was "dry" (meaning no alchohol above a certain proof could be sold). The consequence was that the bootlegger enjoyed enormous popularity for fulfilling an unmet need, and elected law enforcement (like the county sheriff) refused to pursue the bootlegger in spite of his selling to minors and selling other contraband. Indeed, the bootlegger was so brazen that he had his location in the middle of the small town that was the county seat, and the location was so well-known that you could use the location as a landmark when giving directions. What finally put this gray character out of business? Legalization. And who opposed it? The churches. As much as I love the US system, the drug laws reflect one of the worst aspects of American culture--a puritanism that ignores rationality and even the lofty right to pursue happiness. I think it depends on what area and situation. I'm sure it's all very true, but I've never heard of it as a persistent problem here in Chicago. For some odd reason, Chicago as a notorious history of gangs=drugs problem doesn't experience those kind of effects. Although we do have a harsh police force that does seem committed.
  13. Sounded like Shakespear, whom I really despise his works. Me= Hatred of Brit Lit, poetry, and sonnet. But the poetic sense is undeniably Greek.
  14. And she had no idea of your intentions 'from behind.' LOL :lamo: :mummy:
  15. Funny, besides the Atlantis crap, this volcanic eruption is legitimately believed to have caused the horrible plagues of the Exodus from the Bible. When I saw the documenary on this, I was so convinced because there was a modern day comparison that happened in Cameroon that matched the plagues of the Exodus. Really scary.
  16. Yes it is, but it only means you need to spend an extra hour or so, and you'll be fine. I think the verbs will be the easiest part for you, it's very similar to English and direct. For example I want would be, Ana=I and bade=want, you pronounce the e at the end of the word. Thank God. You should see classical Greek and Latin, the verbs are unbearable, easily in Greek with a bunch of tenses and moods.
  17. Thank you tflex and all...guess it seems that from a common concensus that the biggest hurdle I would face is basically the writing and pronunciation. Just wondering, are the sentence constructions hard?
  18. You must not be familiar with Silvio Berluscone. Is it me or is it that a lot of Italian officials still have ties to the mafia, even if they deny it now or consider themselves no longer a part of the mafia relationship?
  19. Wow only two tenses and two declensions...but what about sentence construction and verbs.
  20. Recently, I've bought program/book intensive guide to learning Arabic. So far, I'm afraid to begin because I don't know what to expect. As a student who already knows Latin, about a year of Greek, fluent in Vietnamese, and obviously English, can any of those languages help me out a little with learning Arabic. Is Standard Arabic hard? What are the difficulties? What are the similarities to Latin and Greek that might help? Main question: Is the degree of difficulty ok enough for me to learn all the grammar and how long will it take to learn? Hope someone knows the answers.
  21. Technically, there were suppose to be 2400 people present to vote on the matter, but most were cowards and only 300 actually wanted to vote. Now its probably official that its just 8 planets. But Pluto, Charaon, Ceres, U3I3 will just be called dwarf planets(also for other heavely bodies.)
  22. An Empire of Wealth by Gordon Steele Founding Brothers by Joseph J. Ellis. Why I mention those two? Because I friggin am taking AP US history right now, and had to write 8 pages of reviews.
  23. I'm a sucker for books about the Roman military machine...so Nero's Killing Machine is sure to be a good read. The other two books of interest I see is Domitian and The Roman Revolution. I mean I've never heard much more of Domitian other than being a tyrant...unless he really is a good leader.
  24. I actually prefer IE. Firefox has a lot of compatibilities issues on my laptop, even though I recently fixed. I still like IE. All I have to do is clear spyware and update my Antivirus. So I really don't have popups, virus, or anything. Oh also, I have Comcast(broadband service)
