  1. Those are nice pics Klingan, they are very well lighted and crisp. Whenever I take pictures it looks like I've taken them in a cave, they are so dark and muddy.
  2. You are right, a friend told me two weeks ago that Ray Stevenson had confirmed that they were doing the Rome Film. He showed me a similar website.
  3. Sounds a bit like the re-working of Eagle of the Ninth, wasn't that supposed to be made into a film a while back? I also heard that the director behind Dog Soldiers would have been the one behind the Eagle of the Ninth film. I suppose he might have scrapped that one film and done this instead?
  4. Happy Birthday Primus Pilus, have a good one!
  5. I had no idea the film was still banned in many places in Britain...how very odd. Here's some other great news for Python fans... Life of Brian is now on Blu-Ray - Life of Brian (Blu-Ray) I'l be wtaching the film on a humble DVD or video cassette to celebrate the 30th anniversary.
  6. Sounds slightly similar to Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette movie, which also contained modern music, although no dance scenes (but then again it mhave, but I haven't seen it). This film does sound rather odd.
  7. The traditional cl;assical sculptures (the ones we associate with Greece and Rome) were already changing by the time the Roman Empire was becoming christianized. John Romer mentions the last of the classical statues being sculpted not long after Justinian's reign, although that might be a slight exaggeration considering that heraclius has also been mentioned on this board once before. One thing is obvious is that Classical statues were changing during the last years before Constantine became emperor, this is most noticeable in Diocletian's bust.
  8. Great Review Ursus! I wanted to buy this book when it was first mentioned on the site, but it slipped me by. After having read the review it sounds like a great biography, something that would equal or excell the work of Adrian Murdoch's books on Julian and Romulus Augustulus. I've enjoyed Maty's other books, so I'll rectify my forgetfullness and buy a copy now.
  9. Tiberius Gracchus was portrayed in the BBC drama-documentary 'Ancient Rome: Rise and Fall of an Empire'. Unfortunately his life was squashed into a 50 minute slot, so the entire episode was a very basic and largely inaccurate portrayl of his political career. One of the most glaring omissions from the episode was that his brother, Gaius, wasn't even mentioned. It was almost as if Tiberius was an only child.
  10. Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! The last few weeks have been rather hectic so I haven't had the time to visit UNRV as much as I want. Thanks again!
  11. Forgotten Voices of the Holocaust by Lyn Smith - an interesting and powerful book. I don't normally read 20th century history books, but I thought that Forgotten Voices of the Great War was good, so I brought this.
  12. Those ballista siege towers are a nightmare. It's like the enemy have mounted machine guns on them, they completely decimate my wall defenders. I hope the Creative Assembly has patched this. Still, it's nice to play Rome Total War once in a while, even though a good 4 1/2 or 5 years have passed since it's release. I'm looking forward to Empire: Total War which is going to be released 3 weeks from now. Anyone else heard of this?
  13. Great review Nephele! This sounds like an interesting take on Caesar's assassination and the autopsy that followed. Wasn't the autopsy supposed to be the most accurate done in the ancient world? Or was it the first of its type? I can remember reading about it in a book, but I just can't seem to remember what it said. Any primary sources on this story?
  14. Great News, I't s good to see Gladiatrix on the list. A great achievment, well done!
  15. The recent one is absolutely terrible. Caesar appointing Crassus and Pompeius Co-consuls in the end to settle their dispute.... Brrrr. In 70 ? damn ! Holywood at its best ! Did Spartacus co-operateted with Hannibal to smash Anthony ? Why they are doing this ? In the TV movie's defence though, it was till more accurate than the Kirk Douglas/Stanley Kubrick; just not anywhere near as entertaining.
  16. I think I've seen him in Lord of the Rings.
  17. Interesting - Thanks for the reply Ursus! Have they already started filming, or is it still in the casting stage? Makes you think who'll they'll have to play Henry's other wives.
  18. Excellent find, and the coins seem to be in perfect condition. I saw this hoard on the front of magazine recently when i wento shopping, so it's obviously attracted some attention. Makes you think how much else remains buried from the Iron Age era.
  19. Anyone know if this show will be getting a third season? If it does, then it's certainly more popular than Rome (the show it was probably trying to imitate). I've been thinking of buying this series for sometime now, as I constantly see the price dropping, but I've held back. Now with all the economic troubles going around it's certainly slipping further down my list of DVDs to buy.
  20. Just recieved John Man's Genghis Khan (I wrote a review of his Attila book last year). I will be getting into that tonight.
  21. I think if they ever replaced British/American actors with Romance actors for the Romans, the audience would be confused, and would no doubt complain about silly accents.
