  1. Did anyone watch last night episode? I am still reading the book "history of rome" by Michael Grant so have not got up to this part yet. What I am curious about did Mark Anthony ever ponder not joining up with Julius? Or was this something they just threw in?
  2. As a logntime fan of many of the HBO series, from Sopranos, to Deadwood, and Carnivale, and now Rome One thing I know even though they all have different writers, HBO always loves to keep us guessing from episode to episode. What might appear to be one thing can be something totally different then we are exepcting. That is the beauty of the HBO series. What I love about HBO series overall is they make you think and analzye each episode. Very few TV shows do that to same degree HBO has.
  3. I got the book finally it took about 3.5 weeks to get I guess becuase it out of print now. I am only about 60 pages in but so far I really like Grant's style of writing. I am learning about early parts of Rome that I never even knew existed. Pretty interesting.
  4. The good news is Rome was renewed for at least second season: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr/telev...t_id=1001096731
  5. This was definitely the slowest episode of the #4, but I still enjoyed it. Since I have watched many of the HBO series like deadwood and carnivale, I know that sometimes they have many episodes that really slow down the pace. They seem to do it intentional. I do enjoy the character developments even if some of them are not exactly true to history. BTW if you go to hbo.com and click on each episode, it gives a detailed summary what happened in the epsiode. I found this is great to read afterwards, because sometimes you miss things did not realize before. It especially helped me in Deadwood, since I had a hard time following that show.
  6. Interesting thatnks for that paragraph gives me a bit of insight.
  7. Completely fictitious. As for the 3rd episode... the theft of the treasury by Pollo makes me nervous that the series will start slipping into the ridiculous, but as I'm still enjoying it... I'm not worried yet. They are still doing a fine job, for the most part, of making everyone's role believable. 14594[/snapback] Yeah I chuckled at end when Titus realized what he found and moved really quickly to get the wagon out of view.
  8. I saw third episode last night and enjoyed it. Just quick question, the two characters Lucius and Titus are they real people in history?
  9. I found this site becuase HBO got me really interested in Rome after seeing the series which I love so far! As far as it getting renewed, I am pretty sure second season is definite...after that dont know. I did read that they already had second season already written, and after the 4th episode if it does as good as they are expecting, will probably announce a second season like they did with Deadwood and start taping and be ready by end of next year.
  10. I just read this article, and say it was well done. I learnt a lot about history of Christianity that I did not realize beforehand. It is interesting how it started as a cult and is now a major religion. I do wonder what will happen in 200 years from now. It does appear more and more people are turning away from christianity and looking for other options.
  11. I watched the first hour tonight. Very interesting, amazing what an advance civilization the Romans were in terms of technology. Also they went into the period about Nero...what a nasty dictator he was. First I ever really heard much about him.
  12. Thanks, I did order History of Rome, but looks like might take 2 weeks to get it since it is coming from the U.K. So I if I can get this one at barnes and noble I will check it out.
  13. I taped this on my DVR Hope to be able to watch it this weekend.
  14. Thanks for the kind welcome! Can also thanks to HBO for getting me interested. Though I dont know how accurate HBO is portraying it.
  15. Ok thanks! I cannot find it at barnes and noble guess it out of print, otherwise I would have physcially checked it out myself. I am going to order it from amazon
  16. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...=books&n=507846 I know very little about Ancient Rome History. After watching the first two episodes of the new HBO series ROME, I am very interested to learn much more. I saw this book on amazon and has great reviews, but was curious your thoughts? Or do you recommend another book for beginners? Thanks
