Architecture & Technology Forum?
Onasander replied to Sextus Roscius's topic in Renuntiatio et Consilium Comitiorum
People actually care about this stuff? I gave up discussing it before I joined the military back in Feb 04, I had a website talking about the Mechanican and Liberal arts, and nobody came (I've amassed a whopping 700 clicks, 3/4ths of them mine). I adventually just turned it into a link site for my personnel use. Damn, if ACS will finally come and hook up my DSL, I'll start putting stuff up here on the site on the subject. Here's what left of my site, it's so disorganized with most of the sections not even accessible from the main page. If you click around, you may find a page with grey lizard backgrounds talking about the mechanical arts. www.ctisphonics.tk -
I think it's a good idea, though history has proven that here my ideas arn't any good.

I read the inferno, but I stopped there.... reading about a man repelling off of satan's butthairs to enter purgatory wasn't deeply facinating to me, but I love the visual idea of the traveling thru hell and possibly seeing all the levels hanging at the top of the roof! I'm planning on reading the other two books when I go to Iraq in Oct. I just read in a newpaper article on the 27th of Dec. that the Vatican got rid of the idea of Limbo, citing Dante's Inferno. Never cared for my churches (catholic) overabondance of logicians, they would be harmless enough writting but people tend to believe what the write as fact! It's just speculation, or an aid at best, geeze!

Hey Spurius, did you know a Father Daniel (first greek orthodox from Indonesia? He was going to school there for a while, I used to visit him occasionally in Columbus (I lived in the northern panhandle of West Virginia, used to volunteer for digs at Steubenville and Reed's Mill. Ya, Arctic Airborne Infantry, though I'm working in supply right now on account of my knee. I'm putting together material for deep arctic operations (got the inner liner to a 10-man tent and plenty of poles and ropes, need to buy or locate the outer flap and stove, and I'll have the complete set! Ahkios cost about $300, and if I get my flight license, I'll be unstoppable.... any dig in the north would want me onboard.... remember the Iceman find, well....... that's something I'ld be first on the list for, though I really hate the cold. Iran sounds more to my liking. I don't plan on making archeology a career though, just my profession. I need to find money elsewhere. (does Ohio state have a masters program in archeology? I was thinking about just getting a BA at the University of Anchorage (half their history books being sold deal with the roman empire, he he he!)

My avatar represents the void I feel inside, and my signature is self-evident. (PS, I always figured that was a picture of Primus Pilus dressed up or something)

I just took mine off vacation mode due to me taking classes over the holidays, so I'll have more time to check up on it. Remember, I'm still bigger than all of you combined.

BC is simple. BCE is longer. Use the shorter of the two, no need to make everyone have to suffer to aim in the quest for political correctness. This BCE stuff is discrimination against the lazy.

http://www.orientalia.org/ Thier forums are dead for the most part, but they still got some good links. I made a few posts a while back. Right now I'm finishing Ramakrishnans' translations of 11 Upanisads so I'll come back then and will read this topic, but I know a whole lot about Hinduism, I lived near a Hare Krishna Temple in West Virginia and trained alongside of Indian Commandos in Fairbanks, Alaska. There is a professor on the net going by the name Plamen I think, he writes occasionally on anchient christian theologians who were 'influenced' by Indian though, though I have yet to see evidence of this. (I havn't forgotten the book reviews, been bogged down with work like you wouldn't believe! The army is giving me a computer and internet access here soon for some bizarre reason so if I get all my work done, I'll be checking in here occasionally.)

Vatican The Last Vestige Of The Roman Empire
Onasander replied to emperor's topic in Templum Romae - Temple of Rome
I wear Saint George slaying a dragon... I was given it at a monestary before I joined the military. There is some evidence that St. George is pre-christian... doesn't matter, I can't remember the philosopher (George S.), but he was a early twentieth century American who said Catholicism will outlive Christianity! Anyway, ya, St. Catherine is Roman as well I believe, still truckin after all these years.... NEVER BEEN CONQUERED.... it's under the Greek church's administration. As to the Pope still being an imperial agent till modern times.... are you sure the Emperor still recognized them as such after the Schism? The Catholics (I am one) are still out of communion with the rest of the ancient churches, a lone duck who had control of a backwater part of the globe ever recending at that) until they got lucky and discovered America. Avignon and the Anti-pope issue is something I don't know too well in depth, but so long as the Vatican never lost control of it's sovernignty to another outside force, then yes, it would be the last vestages of Roman rule.... that and I think the police chief in Rome still carries his title since the ancient times. -
How is the feeling to the Indian population down there... their not christian or overly asian, but still very different. Are they incorporating themselves into Australian society fine, and do you think the people yelling at the lebonese would have anything against them?

Stupid military... I could of asked him my Ceasar Tour de France question had I not been waiting around till eleven each night to get off work (extra duty {detention} got off before me!)

The Praetor Peregrinus
Onasander replied to Primus Pilus's topic in Renuntiatio et Consilium Comitiorum
I'm not to into the role playing... I just want to be different(as well as the first)... a tribune and senator seems to me to be of equal status. -
Christmas, Saturnalia, Mithras
Onasander replied to Primus Pilus's topic in Templum Romae - Temple of Rome
There's no shame in admitting pagan custom of holiday traditions, so long as the actions of the tradition didn't disagree with the ideals of Christianity, there was no evil done in the eyes of the ancient church. For example, the graveyard in the village of Elkutna in Alaska bury thier dead occording to the pagan traditions in a necropolis... brightly colored villages complete with huts where the dead are buried.... the American Orthodox Church(decended and in communion with the Russian Orthodox Church, which was co-created by the Greek and Roman Churches).... which has much in common with the Roman traditions, doesn't have anything against this tradition because the village understands the situation theologically as different that thier pagan predacessors. It is the romance, not the theology, that survives. -

9th Century Calvary Book
Onasander replied to Onasander's topic in Gloria Exercitus - 'Glory of the Army'
No, it was not the Tatica, I've seen slides of the manuscript, and wouldn't get confused, and it certainly wasn't Maurice's book.... no, this was a Frankish book based on a even earlier roman book. -
They keep a fire extinguisher next to the bush of moses incase it 'catches on fire' again, I love that they have that kind of sense of humor!

I got nothing against Germanicus, I just wanna be Tribune, and you gotta have two... and it looked like the super-pleb would be a good running mate. -

She claimed it to be a Beet salad.... yuk! But I still love her, though outta revenge I treated he the day after to my own particular kind of dish, stemmed broccoli with sliced hot dos and cheese poured all over.... she pretended to like it, though I know she thought it was beneath her. -

Ummm, your time zone must be pretty close to mine.... this means it's my responsibility to break you in. Tonight, the forums will be littered with images from Polly Shore movies! You'll have your work cut out for you, newbie. -
9th Century Calvary Book
Onasander replied to Onasander's topic in Gloria Exercitus - 'Glory of the Army'
That's what I remembered reading, like I said, it was a couple years back before I joined the military so I didn't have good comprehension of the orders of marching and thier importance, and gave up reading it in that section (it befuddled my brain, discussing which foot the calvary was to be on when calling for a column left... what did I care about that then!), but there IS such a work out their in cyberspace.... I just can't remember how I stumbled across it. The terminology was all latin, and the introduction said it (the 9th century work) was taken from a earlier Roman work that he mentioned by name, though that too I cannot remember, cause it was in latin and seemed pretty non-discriptive to me. If any of you stumble across it some time, flag me! -

If the emperor was included among the members of the priesthood, then I doubt they would be killed, he'ld be just as much to blaim.
