  1. Am I the only one who have noticed the parallels between the Stoic endtimes and modern global warming. It is essentially adaptation of that old religion. I told a very outspoken Stoic this, who is a member of the London Philosophy Group, and he immediately stopped talking to me, even though he primarily blogs about modern religion from a stoic perspective. I guess some things are too uncomfortable to deal with if it forces you to not just challenge your religious beliefs, but also your cultural identity and values. Its extra interesting in noting he is a psychiatrist. Not the first time a psychiatrist turned hypocrite.
  2. Have you giggled my user name? I have a lineage via several online topological websites stretching back over a decade..... using a wide variety of methods. I'm really, really, really good at predicting your cognitive mode of thought in conversation. It's my Jedi mind trick, I had a small following in SF for this alone. And please, bring up your parallels ideologically as well as cognitively between North Korea and the US. If you visit the DPRK's Spanish embassy's website, you'll find all of their past three leaders English translated papers. I have literally google earth the entire road system, read every text they produce, read their website, and studied what I could of their philosophical and military history.... I'm obsessive about it. I know about as much as you can know about it's illicit operations via its restaurant chain, in both internet searches and straight up asking people who have claimed to of visited. If you somehow think I am like a North Korean, speak up, and test it. Likewise, you should slap your test and key here, part of my topological background was learning the in and outs of manufacturing such texts. And since I mentioned Korean history, everyone should head over to www.transceiver.com and watch Li San and Queen Seon Dux, two very awesome South Korean Historical Dramas.
  3. I am in my Shorts, came to work, I'm off now, and its a blizzard outside. It's been getting colder and colder each year, but the news keeps saying hotter and hotter. This is false advertising. I remember a year or two back a global warming protest got snowed out in Washington DC in a blizzard. What can we do to make it work? Everyone keeps getting my hopes up, and I get let down. Is it because I am failing to do my part? My carbon footprint is embarrassingly small. I don't use any kind of hairspray, or heat my place. I mostly walk or use public transportation. Am I to blame for this? I have my hopes set on the Chinese to save us. This is, of course, assuming, their polluting is warming. They say all that sulfur they put in the air accidentally cooled everything. You can't catch a break. It used to not even snow here before thanksgiving. Now, mankind is entering into another ice age. I was actually thinking of walking 5 miles home tonight..... I'm dressed for the tropics. Doubt I could make it 4 miles before hypothermia takes me down. Cause of death: Global Warming.
  4. The link gives a place, but not a time or era, beyond a sense of 'pre christian', and lacks detail. The people seem to deal with it on Jungian terms, ritualizing it, dressing up AS the forest. Only mention of this myth in spain so far Ive seen. The idea they were scared of the forests however is bunk.... they were a forest people. Their hunters would of known their way around, and they would of traded and warred with someone elsewhere.
  5. They are linked because it has been my experience to find these people in every hidden nook and cranny of my travels...... First, I found them between Glimmer and Logan County in West Virginia..... I was becoming increasingly disillusioned my freshman yeatere, hated the course material and stopped doing homework as it got in the way of my studies, and so split my time between reading what I was interested in the library, or going out on increasingly longer jogs into the ever narrowing road system. I was 17 then.... kept comming across very impoverished villages. Houses were one room. Electric poles stopped. Roads ceased being paved. I kept pushing foreward. That very ancient English dialect everyone talks about on this site? Its there. Its there, and I am not. Its the way it has gotta be. In Alaska, you get similar groups of hill billies in little compounds, fighting forindependence, one lawn chair and 44oz drink at a time. Alot of opinions, slot of bullshit, alot of natives looking like middle aged caucasion men. In Hawaii, I.accidentallly stumbled on a independence compound in Waimanalo, at the end of a road..... I was amazed at how they bblended the sitting on their ass eating spam snd soda, bitching just like in alaska, with the architecture of Logan County. I dont like these people. I just dont fucking like them. The are too far apart to have learned this from one another. I found this link just now: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cantabrian_mythology
  6. Yeah, you can make them, fitted. Phalanx in formation, especially in its center, isnt very flexible. And they had horrible AI. The Stoic philosopher Asclepciodotus wrote essentially the first computer AI program for phalanxs on a mathematical model, making them do some truely absurd maneuvers. Pretty much, where you are, is where you are. I wouldnt expect this trick to work with a roman legion post-marius..... but all infantry formations, phalanx or legion, were very vulnerable from above, hence why it was so easy to kill either type of troop in urban terrain by raining down random stuff from rooftops. My idea is simple, quick, and a minimum of time consuming preparation. It would take them time to cut through the net. Imaging 20-30 of these nets falling in unison or sequence on the enemy's front..... I would perfer my opponent netted than standing tall. Roman gladiators did it individually, why not in mass? Only people still using phalanxs these days are labor unions and marxist groups in places like south korea and germany. I dont see it working very well on police formations, so its something to consider..... just dropping a big net on them next time they advance with garbage can lids and poles on the police. Walk up when they are squirming, and pepper spray them.
  7. In a case of modern madness, Stalin's Purge of his military in the years immediately prior to WW2 cost the soviet union dearly. It is the chief cause of the Soviet Union' years of ruin, and near conquest by the Nazis. It was disturbing in both how pragmatic it was, and how deeply disturbing it was, leaving the entire country decimated for a short term sense of security, that lead to Russian ruin. There are a few Roman leaders who come to mind, but no solitary, Archetype during Roman times that unite all these qualities. Nero comes close in some regards, but his means of targeting intellectuals in the courts, and scapegoating religious sects..... not quite the same. Yet I get a very Roman feel from Stalins madness. Its different from Obama or Hitler. Did any Roman Emperors systemmatically reduce the state and military, outside of civil wars, to perserve a paranoid sense of security and control?
  8. Which policies do I stand oppose to? There are positive and negative applications of technique that can benifit a overall aim in any statecraft. Unless clearly unethical or inhumane, or leading to a continual reduction of returns to maintain any stable, sane system of government, I vary rarely speak out on policies, but the concept, expectations, and execution of policies. The whole damn point of a democracy is to vote on laws. No damn point to force a ideal system on something with a nebulous, morphous nature. I stand deeply hostile to socialism that only leads to deminishing returns and eventual ruin, not socialism persay. If people really, really want it, but for whatever reason it cant happen, that needs to be studied, and a range of alternative remedies to be proposed. So you bit Virgil, but you bit the wrong target. I pointed out the obvious paralell between Obama attempts to control congress and the judiciary. The topic is Tyranny, something trans tactic based individual policies, as it is a consistent behavior to a favored end, and not any given favored means asserted persay. He is a classical tyrant. Plain and obvious, shitting on the bylaws of our republic. He effectively knocked out a entire half of our bicameral legislator, the house of representatives by eliminating the Origination Clause. All the history between the Magna Carta to the present, erased. Chucked out the window with a smile. He makes laws and discards them, and modifies them with a alarming rate..... even though that is not the executive brances function. He lives for one thing, and that is power. What is power? A article if faith even a Atheist holds in our unconscious appreciation for delusions of grandure. Every mental disease exists just beneath the surface of every sane man..... we all know and have a appreciation for such impulses, but what is this, this power? A feeling, a ego identity triggered by a cascade of neuro chemicals? Obama learned what power was by envy and history. Its a schematic concept he is chasing. Certain milestones has to be passed before he accepts it as reality. That he actually possesses power, a legacy, victory and messiahship. These, we know not to be secular terms, but aspects of crude, ancient religious cults. He is pure metaphysics, leading what still remains and functions in our republic in a ratrace against itself. Whip out a damn policy of his..... I'll show you hidden merits you are not even aware of, as well as inefficiencies in application, and political and constitutional friction. No law or policy, however just or evil its intentions, is totally without qualities of either nature. So no, I do not 'Oppose' Obama's policies, or most any leaders, save for the purely unethical and malicious. But know I will piss and spit on tragic trends. That is the Officiorum my nature is eternally bound to.
  9. Didn't both the Romans and the Christians show a tendency to both hierarchy and joint rule? Hard to call either ideal the obvious ideology in either group. Giorgio Agamben's work The Kingdom and the Glory: For a Theological Genealogy of Economy and Government. Homo Sacer II, 2 (2007) Its a decent source book to get started on if you lack a background, unfortunately he is at cross aim in the book, advocating Foucault while ironically attacking a couple of fascist era theologians..... both Foucault and the Fascist are too similar ideologically, both being Nietzscheans..... so there is a lot of tangential drama opposite the larger push of the work. He focuses on the evolution of the concept of the trinity from a economic device to a theological. The work hss the weaknesses any geneological method when used alone has..... you end up fighting your own shadow, trying to find reason against the root of unconscious prejudice..... but none the less an admirable attempt. Much like Gilius on this site, his use of scattered primary sources are admirable and not falsified, just how he puts it together. If you go in knowing his prejudice, you can learn alot. His opinion is a 'official opinion' with legal standing in at least italy, given how civil law is set up. If someone figures out a way to challenge oath taking, or claims to religious rights, or customs, he can write a legal opinion, as a professor, and the court there actually will follow through with it as if it is legit, because under their law, it is. Hence, why guys like me too must exist.
  10. Plausible Conspiracies should be avoided for fear of blame and retribution, and just deserves similarly returned. You should ask yourself instead, who would gain from admitting to such a scheme? If you did it, and got away with it, would you talk publicly after?
  11. I just thought of this, and its so retarded and simple...... 30 foot poles, carried by the middle formation before engaging a phalanx spaced a few men apart. When front line commences, unfurl large fragments, hook it up to the poles, and lift them up and ahead, dropping it on the enemy's front line a few ranks back.Mass Slaughter and holes in the formation insures victory.
  12. Im reading 'The Medieval Origins of the Legal Profession' on my Kindle, via a free sample that coincidentally covers Roman Law and the religious origins of Jurists. It mentions in location 488 that Suetonius related among the symptoms of madness in Caligula was that he often expressed the wish to control the Jurists so that they would produce no responsa of which he did not approve.... That has Obama written all over it. I cant imagine anyone in the entirity of American history more hostile and controlling of our American Independent legal tradition. Its so bad many members of the supreme court wont attend State of the Union Speeches, given Obamas lies and direct intimidation in their presence. How many other parallels in terms of madness by Roman Emperors can be found in the conduct of modern leaders, Chief Executives of states in particular?
  13. Just saw the first episode of Season 2, she's back to her unsexy status with her wound stitched up on display.
  14. The PDF is by Gadamer, not Godel. 'Truth and Method'. Its been a while since I read him.
  15. I do read alot of other books, Im probably the one westerner with the strongest grasp on the Hamsa Gita, have spent alot of time reading Zoroastrian works, spent months learning both Nicheran and Suzuki's Zen, been to kabbalah groups, shiva temples, six months study lessons with the Baha'i, a gnostic church and discussions with a gnostic 'bishop', two different tibetan sects, and a crazed cabalist from louisiana. Oh yes, we cant forget the 5 percenters.... or my exploration of Islamic sects in general. As you pointed out, being a academic, even a P.hd , doesnt amount to crap when in comes to presentation. I possess nothing of the sorts, and I eat such people for breakfast. I have a uncanny knack for not just winning a argument, but also for explaining why the argument is false, and giving stronger alternatives. I am the very shinning opposite of the kind of person you are used to. I have a wonderful background in deciphering texts, Im doing it right now for 'The Hundred Thousand Songs of Milarepa', which has some unexpected pre-stoic Cynic ideological strains in it you dont find in Upanishads or Sutras..... You have a beginnings, via study of context, of a pattern generated, fractally distributed truth. I won't deny putting texts together, you can find parallels. That is not the point. The point is, why should those texts go together in the first place? Can I slap any random texts together, and more often than not do something similar? Is not the comparisons between two texts, once it gains it footing convincingly and begins to grow, increasingly our own intellectual creation and not inherent in any text? The problem in comparison, seeking a greater truth, is that the arching aim of the scattered truth values can demand a sense of unity, a unity that doesnt exist in any text. This unity isnt seen by people who first read the texts, but is obvious to anyone who knows it is there. It is a sense of knowing. The issue is, the sense of knowing ISNT in the texts! Its something we add to it, and convince ourselves of. For your method to have validity, it needs to be testable, and should have a larger test pool than just one known case, and of course, science cant be hidden or not replicable, or else it ceases to be science and becomes magic. You are advocating a form of hermeneutics. Its something philosophers, lawyers, and historians use. The books written on the subject are quite thick. They cover many, many literary typologies. Have you ever looked into it? By your own admission, your getting all your information from Atwill, he inserted thd belief of this a priori unity into your mind, by leading you down this path, where only you can see, like him, the truth. However, I haven't actually seen you falsify any factoid..... your not changing the texts you present, your merely adding meaning that is not apparent. It doesnt occur to you why we think this is wrong, or how you can go about convincing us of your truth. I think there is a underlining honest streak to you, however, in your current state, you are unable to live up to your ambitions, given your admitted success rate on this site, which is next to non-existent. Your probably the first person I ever said to 'Hey, you should really learn Hermeneutics', but in your case, given your attraction to it, I would strongly suggest you take it up, immediately. If I recall, Godel's PDF is on the internet. It is a good introduction. After reading if, youll be in a much better position to explain yourself and convince us. While it is true you dont have to be a academic historian to develop good theories, or write good histories, it should come with a stipulation..... we, as such men, must do better, by pushing ourselves harder to shame the academics into a sense of freeloading complacency. I am not a amateur, but the zenith of excellence. As you should be too. You cant get there from relying on the ideas and guidance of one man, Atwill, alone. A rose is made of more than one petal. I recommend starting here: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermeneutics
  16. Then manufacture a equivalent using the a similar fractal sequencing, and PM a neutral member on this site to judge our posts in advance. I think Caldrail would be a good judge. The whole point is to see if a objective method to a history via this method is even possible. Given you, and you alone on this forum, have the capacity to orient, observe, diagnose and determine a deeper meaning to a presumably falsely text, you should be able yourself to falsely another text using a similar distribution. It wouldn't be our goal to disprove the text, as we all before hand know it's false, we just need to be able to see consistently the same pattern within the variable as you. This means the possibilities of success and fail needs to be 1/4th Success to 3/4th Failure if we were to guess blind. We can take the statistical variation, and discuss how we came about out conclusions via your method and hermeunetically using more standard methods. One very ripe, parallel scenario I can think of, Alexander the Great IS Buddha, or Manufactured the Buddha for Greek intellectual domination, but desired to get caught by future generations. You can model your fake texts on any western work, or eastern works, like those from this Sri Lanka website: http://kataragama.org/index.htm It's a awesome resource. Take a text, modify or add to it as needed. The philosopher Chanakya and Vedanta did a lot to merge Alexander into Hinduism, and it fought against Buddhism for a thousand years..... it parallels the monolith of Flavian-Christian conspiracy. Make certain it's complex enough that we can get it wrong if we don't follow your method. I think 1 month is ample time to put this together text wise and give us a briefing on your method so we can try our hand at this. We can set a time for everyone to turn in our results to Caldrail or whoever would be the judge to score the results. This should give us evidence if there is something to the Mathematical-Historic Model you speak of. One we get what you are talking about, we'll be able to figure out where other such texts are. This is how The Republic of Science works. You have a new method, it deserves to be tested.
  17. After you digest and intergrate Hippolytus into your model, if its even possible, I will also need you to explain the nature of Proof and Observation: It may be true that you and the authors your using are genius, but why is it that others, with diverse backgrounds, fail to see the truth fractallly distributed amongst these texts? We should have it explained so we may use this method in other aspects of history. Why are we failing, and how can we discover other similar truths in a range of texts, with each of us comming to similar conclusions?
  18. FELICES LAETORUM in 6th century Italy (Laetorum is a subject people relocated for perpetual military service.... I guess not all of the Roman Defensive Grid collapsed with the Romans.
  19. http://www.romanarmytalk.com/17-roman-military-history-a-archaeology/322090-roman-regiments-of-the-vith-century.html Numidae Iustiniani, unit of 508 men attested by an egyptian document in year 539. Numerus Hispanorum, regiment placed in Bosporo in year 528, after a hunnic unrest. Lanciarii, a infantry regiment placed in year 518 Constantinople. Sesto Dalmatae, a cavalry regimen placed in year 518 Costantinople. Vandali Iustiniani, four cavalry units created after the Vandalic War and placed in some Eastern cities in year 534, composed by captured Vandals. Quartoparthi, a previously limitanei regiment stationed in Syria in year 586. Tertio Dalmatae, an ancient vexillatio (cavalry unit) placed in Phoenicia in year 530. Theodosiaci, maybe a ballistari regiment, who stationed in Nessana castrum in Palestine in year 530. Leones Clibanarii, or Leontoclibanarii, a heavy cavalry force in Arsinoe (Egypt). Transtigritani, a previously limitanei regiment, in Arsinoe. Daci, an ancient palatine legion moved in Rome at the beginning of the VIIth century. Salonitae, a regiment we know only from a papyrus' fragment in Oxyrhynchus (Egypt). Equites Mauri Scutarii, stationed in Hermopolis until year 538 (and maybe merged with Numidae Iustiniani). Macedones, stationed in Antaiopolis and maybe before in Memphis as limitanei. Bis Electi, maybe created in Africa in Hippo Regius and then moved to Egypt after the Vandalic War. Schytae Iustiniani, a palatine regiment attested in Antaiopolis and Apollonopolis Magna. Paratonitae Iustiniani, stationed in Libya, their name come from the city of Paratonio, it should be one of the new units created by Justinian. Libyes Iustiniani, placed in Libya, it should be one of the new units created by Justinian. Numerus dromonarium, attested from an epigraph in Cagliari (Sardinia), probably a naval unit. Regii, an infantry unit which took part in the Gothic War since year 535 (they were also in Rome when it was besieged by the Goths). Primi Theodosiani, stationed in Florence in year 547, probably a unit created before VIth century. Persoiustiniani, a cavalry regiment created in 541 composed by Persian prisoners, it fought near Verona and it was placed in Grado. Cadisiani, probably composed by Persian prisoners, attested in year 579 in Grado. Mediolanenses, attested at the end of VIth century in Ravenna, created in Milan after the Gothic War. Veronenses, attested at the end of VIth century in Ravenna, created in Verona after the Gothic War. Tarvisiani, a cavalry regiment attested in Grado in year 579. Ravennates, attested in Classe in year 591. Persoarmeni, attested in Classe in year 591. Numerus Theodosiacus, in Ravenna at the end of the VIth century and attested in Rome in year 592. Numerus Armeniorum, attested in Ravenna at the beginning of the VIIth century. Numerus felicium Laetorum, attested in Ravenna in the VIIth century. Numerus felicium Illyricorum, stationed in Genoa in year 591 (the numerus on the epigraph has been also read as "felicium laetorum", in this case it should be the numerus I mentionted before). Schola armaturae, attested in Concordia in the VIth century and later in Ravenna. Schola Gentilium, maybe moved from Constantinople or what remained (with no military duties) of a Western schola palatina, previously dissolved by Theodoric. Argentes, stationed in Argenta's castrum (Ferrara), built at the beginning of the VIIth century. Ariminenses, attested in Rimini in the VIIIth century but probably created at a earlier date (maybe 590). Numerus Centumcellensis, attested in Civitavecchia only in the VIIIth century but maybe created at a earlier date. Numerus Sermisianus, attested in Rome at the beginning of the VIIth century. Numerus devotus, stationed in Rome in year 561
  20. There is some evidence (can't source this memory) that the Etruscans were from Asia Minor, which would bewildering be upon further reflection be...... Hittite territory. I have a lot of sudden doubt about this. Hard for me to say the archaic origins of the Etruscans..... when I last researched it, people were throwing out everything. The Etruscans could of been just as influenced by Carthage or Spain, which had cities. Or Phoenicians. I don't know.
  21. Romans..... they took a lot from the Etruscans...... I am surprised how little from the Greek colonies in the south. It's something I want to research. There is this big philosophical and intellectual delay to grasping a Greek culture with a high degree of civilization within a few days walk. It's a point of ignorance on my part, even if the land route was blocked, the sea wasn't.
  22. And I don't do a disservice to history, but bibliography when I don't quote. It' t respectful to do so, expected in academic source works, but outside of my Cynic Encyclopedia, except for rare or obscure references, I don't list. It's little more than aesthetic clutter, I use history to prop up philosophy. If I feel a work requires deeper insight, I'll add a appendix. I mention the name, author, or context- unless like you asked to specify further (which I did, Torah and Talmund). Just...... we got this thing called google now. Half the time, I can find what I need from context to do a search via Google or Bing.
  23. Alright, I'll narrow down the Greek-Hebrew Bilingualism to the Ptolomies, and Selucid holdings post Alexander, and prior to that, Assyrian for the conquered Samaritan areas, and prior to that Pre-Mosaic it was Egyptian. Of the Mosaic factions- the Jews and Samaritans, they tended to know those three language groups, at different points in their history. The anti-Mosaic Mandaeans had Assyrian, Arab, and Persain tongues at various points. The Jews in North Africa mostly integrated, TO THIS DAY, with the Berbers, and have been there since before Roman Times. They maintained not just the language, but also customs and distinct archaic clothing. I don't have much data on the Jews in Greek Marselies, or much of anything with the Hittites. My proof is the Torah and Talmund. They use several languages in it, as well as incorporate wisdom texts from the societies. The Ptolomy Philadalphius II (might of misspelled that) also sponsored many Jewish intellectuals, I found his discussion of statecraft with the Jews copied into the Emperor Krishnaraya's supposed discussions with his ministers back in the 1600s.... wasn't a complete plagiarism, but somehow a discussion by Hebrew Scholars to a Greek king in Egypt made it to Southern India, into the Marathi language. Just a little interesting sidenote. Do I have to list the language used in each canonical and apocryphal old testament work to satisfy you? If your Chinese, I'll understand, but I assume most people in the west know the Jews used many languages for their Holy Texts. They maintained 5 temples (Samaritans only one), some outside of Israel. I don't know for certain, but the Romans, or perhaps the Persians, equal shot, might of been the first Bijuralist...... having multiple legal codes per region. I know Persia would conquer areas, and install rulers with autonomy to national groups, but I don't know if this freedom also extended to lawmaking.
  24. We are talking about the OP's parameters. This ceased being a mere internet chat once he admitted to giving paid talks about this, he needs to have the best info. I further accepted your argument to make it a western cultural heritage. Alexander's invasion of Israel came before Rome's invasion. I have also conveniently for you left out Persian precedents that would still fit both the OP's and your parameters. Your entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts. There is a chronology to history. This is why the OP started this thread,to test our conceptions. Now if someone with a understanding of chronology challenges a claim of roman bilingual superiority during one of his speeches, he can react competently. I don't like sending guys in front of a audience with bad info. My own claim, the Romans invented monks, can similarly be challenged. It's one of scale, but the OP wants origins. Disentangle your ego from the facts. This is history, we all get stuff wrong, others are here to check us. Thank them when they do, someone just called me out about the battle of Hastings and I did just that.
  25. I am bitter about what? I really Don't care if you recognize the existence of Cynicism, it's your belief, just as I don't believe Ottawa actually exists. I take flack for it, but never met a trustworthy person who ever claimed to of traveled there. I'm okay with skepticism. In talking about Greek, as in, oh F'k, here comes Alexander out of Tyre kinda Greek. Do you not know of the cultural tug a war between Hebrew and Greek at this time? Also of Assyrian? I am not upset at anyone on this site. My method oftentimes is the diatribe, but I hit ideas, not people. Persona is always in flux.
