  1. Ooo, mead!!! I've never had mead in this lifetime but I do occasionally find myself craving it . As soon as I turn 21 I'm totally looking that place up.
  2. My new job is going great, I feel like my old self again, and I haven't felt this good since...well...it's been probably a year now!! I'm starting to write poetry again, too; I haven't written in quite a while. Picked up a book of Tennyson poems at a used book store, and that has definitely renewed my interest in poetry. As for the harp, well, it appears as though the crack is getting bigger. it also looks like the top part of the frame is listing off to the side. There seems very little chance at this point that the damage is merely cosmetic, despite what my mom says (she has never played a harp before, and there are plenty of people who have happy to contradict her). I think unless I find out from the maker otherwise, I'm going to have to send her back for an exchange. so it will be a little while (a couple weeks) before I have a playable harp again.
  3. It seems to me that rule was put in place because of endless "What would have happened if the Roman Legions had fought Ghengis Khan" type threads (or even worse, the ever so memorable "Roman legions vs. the Aztecs" ). These threads appeared constantly a few months ago and while they were amusing at first, it quickly got out of hand, lol. I'm pretty sure a bunch of them are still in Tartarus somewhere. I don't think anyone would object to discussion of an actual historical battle between the Romans and the Huns...do correct me if I'm wrong.
  4. that's the worst weight loss plan I've ever heard of!!! G: I'd have to guess a broken bone somewhere. Broken ribs?
  5. I don't think that's a prescription, rather a list of causes. My guess would be an upset stomach and fatigue brought on by dehydration, heat, and hunger?
  6. Ack! brainfart. I meant low blood pressure. (my BP was...135/50 or something last it was checked).
  7. Low blood sugar? LOL I should have known that, I have it! But I don't (or haven't) fainted in years. It was my second guess.
  8. I happened across this alternative myth of Persephone (warning: adult content. But very good reading IMO) last night and I got to thinking: were there alternative myths written in Ancient times? There are plenty of them today, I can't imagine they are a new invention. Is there any record of this sort of thing in history?
  9. *is sad* I did manage to play her some, couldn't resist...went to close the windows upstairs and it took me an hour LOL. I'm really glad that site you linked had recreations of actual Citharas...I was wondering what one looked like!! I tried to look it up last night, but got nowhere. I saw a statue bearing one, but I couldn't make sense of what it was supposed to look like or how it was supposed to work.
  10. ...and looks like it's going to have to be sent back. There's what looks like a crack, or at least, a shoddy glue job, where the two pieces of the frame meet. At the very least, it will probably effect the sound. Still waiting to hear back from the girl I bought it from, to see if it's an issue. Mom is *insisting* that it's not a problem but I think it probably is.
  11. Arrived today, has a crack in the frame, will probably need to be sent back. *bawls* I don't have any SCA in the area.
  12. Will do, on both counts!! I tried to look up cithara last night but Firefox crashed.
  13. I know the Lyre was used in Greece, but how known/much used was it in Rome? And were "upright" (Celtic style) harps known at the time?
  14. I have no idea how to play GPM. It will be interesting!!
  15. I'll name her when I see her, and play her. She's not that costly, compared to most harps she's the low end of the scale. The harp I would LOVE to own, when I get good and if I ever get rich enough to afford it, goes about $5,000!! And that's not even *too* expensive, considering some of them cost as much as my car!!
  16. I cleaned out my closets today and I think I'm going to clean my other room too. I need to make space for my baby when she gets here!
  17. I just bought a beautiful, brand new, rosewood and mahogany Celtic harp last night!!! I can't wait until it gets here!! I can't imagine what possessed me (I spent about three weeks' pay on the thing) but I am so excited about it!!!! I got a pretty good deal on it, harp, case, two books, extra strings and tuning tool for about 300 bucks. This is the harp I'm getting, but I found it as a combo deal on Ebay instead of buying it from here.
  18. Good point; I don't know why I didn't think of it.
  19. I'm sure they did...I really cannot imagine going through battle mentally unscathed, especially since they started so young!! Are there any sources on this?
