Very infomrative post fox..thanx for posting it.
Anyway, Would any of you guys know where i could get my hands on a copy of Constantines final speech to the people of Constantinople?
http://www.myriobiblos.gr/texts/english/nicol_fall.html - a rather good link to the fall of Constantinople
HEY TOBIAS!
Us city dwellers arnt crazy! Anyway i think both sides of the community have gone overboard. I live basically in the next suburb to maroubra where "muslim gangs" smashed hundreds of cars. Although im a quarter Leb i am proud to be Aussie and i think this jsut got out of hand. Also the combination of extreme heat and alcohol.. and the influence of Neo-Nazis are said to have created the violence
Constantinople wouldve been saved for sure, but as flavius said you needed incentives and the religious relations between the Byzantines and the Westerners
It would have to be Constantine Paleologus (sp?) i woudlve loved to ahve listened to hsi speech to the citizens of Constantinopel during its final seige in 1453
I was jsut wondering guys, how where the "disabled" treated in the roman empire, and people born with deformities or with downs syndrome how were they treated?... where they just killed as babies or what?
i watched it lst night here in Sydney and it was a complete waste of time to watch...so inaccurate...Caesar didnt even cover his face with his toga after he was assasinated...Although i would have to agree with Ursus the guy who plays Cassius is very entertaining..I doubt that im going to watch the next episode
It is also rumoured that people would jump off the Amphitheatre falling to their deaths to avoid his music. Also heard that women would give birth during the concerts as they were not allowed to leave
The Byzantine base you are talking about was Cherson in Crimea.
If there was a closer alliance i believe that the empire could have been saved.. But i doubt that they would Submit to the Emperor of Byzantium
