  1. That is a nice idea, although I would probably get confused by them. I prefer to just photocopy and highlight important bits.
  2. Ah I understand. That is good then, I thought the forum was getting less active and may fail
  3. Just looking at the membership a few seconds ago, I noticed that the registered member count is 1260. Now, that is good for a specialized forum like this, until I noticed that in 2007 there were a record 1988 members online. That is over a 500 person difference from that time, and they were just members online, and to someone like me (who is a newbie to the site) I think that means this place is less active then it once was. Am I wrong here?
  4. I don't think we have enough people to play the game...
  5. As Caesar was technically a tyrant, he conquered new lands for the Republic, and opened the senate up to the best men in the Republic, not just the richest men in Rome. ~History forgets that Hitler was a brilliant politician, and he got Germany out of the depression it was in in the 1930's by building up the industry again. Had he not declared war, I am certain Hitler would have been declared a hero by the world, even if he did dislike Jews.
  6. Other forum? I weas unaware there were any other Roman forums on the internet
  7. Italian POW's? I have never heard of any of their escapes before. I shall look out for it
  8. Really? What 'other game' is this? ~So is the position mine?
  9. Ha ha, that book actually sounds like it is worth a read. I must look out for it.
  10. Interesting find. How do they actually find places like this?
  11. I think I will be different from the rest of you here... May I please be Sextus Afranius Burrus, head of the Imperial Bodyguard? ~I think everyone wants to be governors because they have resources Rome needs, as well as the military might to oppose the Empire if need be. I myself thought of becoming governor, until I saw everyone else was one, and I like to be different. ~~Although I think we will be hard pressed to find everyone to fill all those positions, as I don't think the senate would be popular, as it did not do much and did not have a lot of power.
  12. Ha ha, they are nice scenes. I remember laughing when I saw Antony in his bright coloured armour, as he looked quite stupid. Only Vorenus seemed remotely well dressed. For some reason though, I never liked Antony as soon as he got to Egypt, although I had liked him all through the show before that. ~Also, I love the bit in the last episode in Egypt when Antony and Vorenus get drunk together the night before Antony kills himself. I love how they just keep swearing like the true Romans they are
  13. My favorite scenes are all of Titus Pullo's comments. Some of his comments are just great. I also like the scene where Cicero dies, and I think that he died well. ~My favorite characters would definitely be Gaia, Pullo, Caesar and Timon. I used to like both Antony and Octavian, but they both became nutters in the end.
  14. Happy birthday. Although I do not remember ever meeting you on the forums, I wish you a good one:)
  15. Really? If he did not train as a gladiator then how was he such a good fighter? Sure the axillary training would teach a lot, but I always assumed he trained as a gladiator for professional fights, and I heard somewhere he trained as a Thracian in the ring.
  16. Did Claudius do the battle plans himself? I always assumed he just watched as others designed the attack plans and he merely signed off on them.
  17. I say Caesar was a brilliant general. It may sound like an easy choice, but I truly think he was a good tactician and he knew how to use what he had, no matter little or pitiful the amount was.
  18. Yeah, I would have gone with Arminius off the top of my head. ~I also believe that Spartacus was in the Roman army and pledged loyalty, before deserting and becoming the most famous gladiator in history. But I am not sure if he counts.
  19. I would probably go with a superb military. The legions were a great innovation, and evolved to fight against many different threats. They were a grand military machine, and it was a wonderful thing that was created there. Also, I would say influence. The Roman empire tied together links between hundreds of people's that still exist in languages and territory today.
  20. Envy? I agree with that. I mean, just look at Caesar. The Plebs loved him. Why? Because he was generous. He gave to the people, and he gave to his army. He lived with his soldiers, and he fought with his soldiers. Therefore they with him, against the Republic they pledged their oath to. It is like Vespasian, who was known for being well liked in his ranks because he did not act all posh and rich. He just got the job done and took care of his men, and they loved him for that - which is how he started the Flavian dynasty.
