  1. We have two gigs in the South West of Germany, but nothing in Belgium or Netherlands (though I tried to apply at the Archeon but no reaction). Both dates are also listed on the German version of our website. On June 14, 2009 we will have a gig at Vicus Wareswald (excavation site) near Tholey in Saarland. On August 15, 2009 we will be at Europ
  2. Hi Russ, Nice to see old acquaintances over here as well and not only on RAT. How's the sequel to "Gladiatrix" going on? Cheers, Svenja aka Medusa
  3. Since I'm new to this board I and at least one person (Nephele) showed interest in my reenactment as a gladiatrix I would like to present my group as well as myself: I founded my own gladiator group LVDVS NEMESIS in 2006 and so far we are four fighters but still looking for more enthusiastic comrades. We had our first gigs last year in Germany (Hamburg and Saarland) and will have three gigs in Saarland this year. Since I'm not knowledgable enough to insert a photo here I could give you only the links to the website: http://www.ludus-nemesis.eu/galerie3.html (photos of our gig at Helms-Museum in Hamburg) http://www.ludus-nemesis.eu/galerie4.html (videos of our gig at Helms-Museum in Hamburg) We base our impression mainly on the finds of Pompeii, i.e. 1 century AD. So far we cannot fight completely in the authentic pairings due to the lack of members but they come as close as possible since the murmillo was the original opponent of the retiarius and there is one earthen flask showing the fight of a murmillo against a provocator. Anyhow, we try our best to present the audience good fights and inform them about gladiators as well since there are many misconceptions about this topic.
  4. Sure I would like to tell you more about it but actually I didn't find any section so far here on the board where I could post any gladiatorial themed thread. Maybe you could tell me where I could do so.
  5. Salve mi Formose, That's a way to meet again outside SVR ;-)
  6. I had Latin in school for four years but always hated it although I always was interested in the Romans. I forgot most of it and have to admit that it was not much of help when learning French, Spanish or now Italian. The latter is easy for me now because of my knowledge of French and Spanish and sometimes even English comes in handy, but only very rarely Latin is of help to learn Italian. Maybe the four years of Latin are helping me to remember the Latin names of my pieces of gladiatorial armor...
  7. I'm from Hamburg, Germany. That is a part of Germany which was not settled by the Romans. There might have been some exhibitions on the river Elbe in the year 5 BC but so far I could not find out too much on the topic of the Romans in North Germany.
  8. Salvete, I registered here already some long time ago but forgot my login name and since Ursus dropped by now on the board of Societas Via Romana, where I'm a member already for a long time, I thought, I register here anew. So here I am now :-) I was alway interested in the history of Ancient Rome and started reenactment in 2005 as a gladiatrix. Since summer of 2006 I started with my own group and after a long time of hard training and lots of research on the topic of gladiators we had our first gigs last year. After we had been filmed on the first weekend of April by a local TV-team we look forward now to our gigs in June and August.
