    Once more ...

Once more, I will attempt to learn Latin, but this time I am registered in a class at the local university..... no more trying to learn on my own. So it will be me and all the young'uns.
  6. It took forever to post the above comment as well.
  7. That being said, it is still frustrating to hover over a link in the 'View New Content' page, and the color of the link changes to black, not white or another light color. That needs to change; it's too hard to see links. like Docoflove1974 , my old eyes have difficulty with this colour scheme.
  8. Not sure if this is right place... I have tried learning Latin over the years......but can't seem to get past the first few lessons in regular books, classes. Any opinions on the Rosetta Stone option?
  9. shoot, I need new glasses, I thought it said Hadrians Wall to which I am planning possibly hopefullly etc a trip.
  10. How relevant this topic is :)/> (especially to me) thank you Klingan.
  11. Isis is laughing.................:D/>
  12. Wonders adn Marvels a nice read, I subscribed to a weekly digest . so far so good
  13. this discussion has been very interesting. My parents came from 2 different villages in Ukraine. there some differences in nouns that I remember. The word for potatoe was totally different in each village and totally different from 'standard' Ukrainian. When trying to learn Russian at University, our professor gave nice little interesting tidbits of knowledge. The vowel 'o' changed radically from north to central to southern Russian. Since at that point I still understood Ukrainian, learning Russian proved far harder than trying to learn French... Unfortunately I never continued learning any foreign language. But I keep trying to learn Latin... I think I will be fluent when I am about 105 years old :D/>/>
  14. the Manfredi book is proving very very interesting.. I usually don't like first person. I think it is quite obvious what happens with 10,000(as the army is called) and why. but I am only half way through the book... I almost read the end to see if I was right but didn't
  15. I decided to try some different authors. Barbara Erskine - Whispers in the Sand. Good thing this book was on a really really reduced sale. Reminded me of Mary Roberts Rinehart but no where near as good. Valerio Massimo Manfredi - The Lost Army. so far not bad but I dont think I will enjoy it as much as the Last Legion. but it could surprise me. Anthony Riches - Empire Wounds of Honour. only read about 30 pages, seems a bit schizophenic. Loved the Preface, but seems to deteriorate after that. Must find my Eagle in the Snow book.
  16. This is still one of my absolute favorite books on Roman history after all these years! every so often I take out the book and read different sectons.:)/>
  17. I have missed this feature Viggen, thank you for being able to do this again. Even though, most of the books at too expensive for me, but it does give me ideas. I have added a couple of books to my wish list.
  18. I quite enjoyed the quizes.
  19. A North American archaeologist who had found his niche in Oregon/Washington sent me 3 raw pieces of obsidian. Obsidian is the mineral for Moon Birth sign - Owl. so it is no wonder I am drawn to Obsidian.
  20. Blade Obsidian has always fascinated me. Mayan culture is outside this site's purvue(?) but this blade is absolutely beautiful.
  21. My link I am considering downloading some of the talks from this site in history and possibly other areas. These talks are much more appealing to listen to while riding the bus than listening someone else' perfectly awful music. Sometimes you actually hear the words from awful songs from the back of the bus while riding the on front seats(arthritis does have a positive........lol) I am listening to 'Hannibal'. I quite like the voices. I am not sure where I got it from. I would appreciate comments on the quality and accuracy from others who have listened to them.
  22. Bryaxis and Melvadius. thanks for you radvise. I have relayed it to my neice and now it is her hands..
  23. First of all I am so glad I am member here. My neice is in first year university and in one of her courses (History) they have to write an analysis of a 2 primary sources/documents. Unfortunately I don't have the background for this. One of her documents is 'The Art of War'. Her professor is helpful but........ I am not looking the answer but for ways to find the answer (answer isn't the word I mean but couldn't come up with a better one). How to begin, the who, why where etc. and she can't use wikipedia(yes yes !!) does any one know of any books about writing this type of analysis. Peer review journals. there is an on line resource starting with J.... that I think her university might have a subscription to. She will be reading the a translation of the 2 works. she can use secondary and/or terterary(??spelling) resources to support her interpretation/ideas on the subject. I love to listen to kids who are excited about learning and thinking....and she is.. (hey I can brag about my neice).
  24. Happy Canada Day wonder who is old enough to remember when it was called Dominion day?
  25. Is a movie about one's self or about any person, the ultimate tribute?
