  1. I would like to know, however, how they came up with that date. I was wondering the same thing. It's hard to fathom.
  2. I've always been fascinated by the object. Imagine the anguish when news of the ship wreck reached whomever was responsible for its creation - looted or other wise. Did I miss what type of material it is made of? Why would only 1/3 of it survive? Corrosion causing it to fragment and those fragments being dispersed by the water current, surely there has been efforts to scour the site for them. Ah, all too mind blowing to think about.
  3. And I too thank you, Italian Archaeologist in Scotland, for sharing this. Are there any known likenesses of Ovid?
  4. Oh, gosh. I watched that series at least three times and don't remember that. ha What a great show.
  5. I learn something new every day on this forum. Thank you.
  6. Well that was an enjoyable and informative talk with Ann Olga Koloski-Ostrow. Thank you for posting. I would like to hear more from that site. but I didn't catch the name of the young woman presenting the series of talks. The next was to be on leprosy.
  7. A very interesting read, enjoyed the video also.
  8. It was created by a true artist. I would love to see it in person. By the way, I'm always tempted to scroll down and about on the pages to read about other exciting finds. The video of the Acropolos Museum was amazing. That would be wonderful to see as well. Have you ever been?
  9. Photos were stunning, esp. the one with the arched entrance to the arena. You can almost sense what it was like to emerge from that and be inside.
  10. Oh, thank you. The answer must have been in the first link which I could not open without disabling Adblock. I only read the info at the second link.
  11. I don't mean to make a habit of posting these, but lately I've come across a couple of good ones. Here's the latest.
  12. Nephele, I miss your posts. Hope you and yours are well.
  13. I can't wait to see what discoveries are made. Perhaps areas where looters haven't been. Wouldn't that be thrilling to see new statuary, etc? I know many people find it all so touristy and such, but I've always been fascinated by Pompeii.
  14. I was going to post this in a separate post, but it's more appropriate here. : )
  15. An interesting read. Thank you. Like the guy in the video, I also always wondered just how the lamps worked.
  16. Have you personally ever been to the Vindolanda site? Are tourists allowed there?
