  1. A very happy birthday, and many returns.
  2. Not what I imagine Didius Falco and Helena sounding like. Thanks for posting!

"Ode To A Banker", finished this 12th. book of the series yesterday. Many characters to keep straight, but Ms.Davis can make them all unique and very interesting. Not as much humor as in the other novels, but it is a good mystery overall. Plus the ending was a surprise, to me anyway. Now, on to "A Body in The Bath House". Have no idea what to expect from Didius Falco in this one!
  4. I found the method of filming very different than other action films. You weren't seeing the scenes (most of them)from a distance or from up above, it was like you were right beside the actors involved in the scenes. At first it made me a little dizzy, . Also, not sure if it was the film or just our theater but the in the first half of the film background scenes were very blurry - like out of focus. Either I grew used to it, or someone walked to the projection room and complained.
  5. Well, I'm back. I have to say this is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time, esp. in a theater. There were only about 20 of us in the whole place, but you could have heard a pin drop the whole time. Ok, ok, I have to admit, Jamie Bell was very good as Esca. Still not the character from the book I imagined, but as an actor he was very good.Oh, and there IS friendship, where that reviewer got the idea they never became friends is weird. He must not have read the books or even watched the movie himself all the way through. I promised Ghost "no spoilers", but Ghost of Clayton don't read any further!! There are No female characters, and the movie is fine. Yes, I wondered about Cottia too, but perhaps there will be sequels? Besides, even if a person hasn't read the books you can still follow a good story.
  6. I'm going to see the movie today at 1:30pm.
  7. Wow. I never knew anything about a headdress that once belonged to Montezuma.
  8. For all you folks in the US, Germany etc. (in fact, pretty much the whole world other than Portugal) who are getting this film before the UK, could I please implore you to keep reasonably tight-lipped until 1st April? In return for your patience, I offer you a whole web-page chock-full of clips from the film. Ok, no spoilers until after April 1st. at least from me.
  9. Why wasn't the title "Eagle of the Ninth" used?
  10. I definitely will go see the movie if it comes to my area.
  11. I just don't see Jamie Bell as Esca, I guess I had the character pictured completely different in my mind.
  12. That's incredible. Can you believe how excited those people must have been to discover the mural? Makes you wonder about all the other treasures that are out there beneath Grandma's wallpaper.

On a lighter note: I finished "Two for The Lions" last night. Very good story. Although a certain person wasn't Didius Falco's favorite, and I understood that, I still was shocked and a bit saddened by the loss of this "certain someone" at the end. Even tho he deserved it I guess! And as I read about the execution and gladiatorial combat, my imagination was MUCH better than watching it unfold on "Spartacus and Gods of The Arena". Well done, Lindsey. Now on to the next book, "One Virgin Too Many". I really don't know what to think with a title like that.
  14. I can just see Zahi Hawass standing out in front of the entrance with a machine gun. Anyone remember his tv series of specials last year? When he got mad, he'd yell and kick ass! "You are fired"! Woke up this morning to see on TV and this thread my fears realized, but they said the museum is being protected now from looters. The collapsing building is another matter.
  15. I wish I could watch it also. I keep going to the site and clicking on "Play", thinking the video will magically begin.
  16. I saw a video of people making a human chain around the Cairo Museum of Antiquities to try and keep it safe. The government building nearby is still burning and they are afraid it will spread to the museum, the last I heard they were calling for help to keep the fire away. Do you think they will loot or vandalize the museum? Didn't something similar happen in Iraq? I know there are more important issues involved here, but still.
  17. I just got this in the mail today, looks very interesting; haven't had time to sit down with it yet. It's a used copy which I paid $.54 for and $3.99 S/H. Thanks to the member who recommended this book!
