  1. New forum looks so good! I was wonder and happy when saw it today! Excellent work! Well done!
  2. I inclined to believe that Manzikert was the beginning of the Byzantine Empire end. It was big misfortune for Empire and it opened the run of bad luck.
  3. Pelasgians and here too Generally there are many legends about pelasgians. One of them is about very long life interval (more then 200 years) of this nation. But I think it was related with calendar's features of pelasgians. One of the theory said that the year of pelasgians was equal to interval between harvests. In this case their long life is really possible. I know Homer mentioned in passing about this nation.
  4. If say honesty I live in Moscow and never saw the persons like this. Of course maybe some drunkards only. LOL. You are right. Of course. I'm young girl and study in college and have a job besides this. I haven't free time for vodka and a Western sugar daddy. This is one of worthless rubbish which is beneath my notice. I think your opinion about Moscow is one-sided. It is a pity!
  5. How you chose your profession? (Or going to choose) what kind of sides of it attracted your attention? I chose archaeology because it was a tradition of my family. I spent my childhood on the digs between ancient rarities and it was fun for me always.
  6. This text is strange and the source of information is obscure for me. lol. Try do it! A few years ago I found an ancient vase at the bottom of the intermittent river. Turned out the vase was very old (8 BC). Dare!
  7. This is excellent list of moves. Most of them I like too. I could add only: Master and Commander with Rassel Crow
  8. Thanks! Of course I read Di Bello Gallico and remember about Veneti fleet. As far as I know this was only one record about Celtic fleet. But I sure not only Veneti had the fleet. The Britain and Irish Celts had some boats too. But I cannot find any description of their boats.
  9. lol. I have English - Russian keyboard and this name look another on my screen. Without little "oo". Transcription ( leek).
  10. If you read Caesar book you could note that it look like fiction and really very interesting. Wonderful language and reach imagination. Good author in one word. Historian...? There are many interesting facts in his book but I sure a part of them really fiction. But this can say about other historians too.
  11. I look for any information about Celtic fleet. I know they didn't use rowing boats and steered with sails only. Anyone know about it more?
  12. Well. Let me ask too. If Christianity is religion of peace and Islamic is peaceful religion why we have religion wars now? If they cannot be in peace together this mean the both religions are evils for people. Well... the religios question is one of more danger in the modern world. I notes it in simple life too. It is very hard to live in country with any religion if you have other.
  13. This is interesting question. I noted that Caesar made Celts more ordinary then in really life. Of course I cannot know about really Celts but there are archaeological finds and they can say anything about them. And I found a few mistakes (or overstatement) Caesar wrote that Celts couldn
  14. Yes. Besides that the Greek colonies in Crimea provided Mithridates with fleet. Greeks always were skilled ship-builder. As to fortification in Crimea they weren't earnest. Only later in Genoa time the fortifications will be more well-founded.
  15. The Pontic Empire included Crimea (the part of Ucraine). This was main part of Pontic Empire. Mithridates used it like safety zone and place where he could to recruit scythians and sarmatians for pontic army. Many years pontic dynasties were on Bosporan throne. The topology of Crimea are hills with dense forest and forbidding rocks along of coastline. There are a lot of good bays between rocks. Mithridates had a navy of course and he used it in the Black Sea.
  16. Saw it in TV news. The words "People haven't been change" sound very actually. Vandals were in the past too. But this is one of the versions.
  17. I know the little part of "lost" manuscripts of Livy was found but the condition of them is very bad and historians cannot read them. A several years ago I read about new finds of Livy's books and this was really sensation but this manuscript was a bad later copy of Livy's works. And although there is a version that Livy didn't write other books beside known. In this case why other ancient authors linked to Livy's book?
  18. I vote for Tiberius Gracchus. IMHO: Livius Drusus would be better but that didn't happen. Alas... He had great plans...
  19. Would like to add that superstition were encouraged in Poman army. Sometimes the lucky signs were specially contrived to raise the competitive spirit of warriors. This was great psychological factor.
  20. This sport is real extreme! We must to learn this at first!
  21. I suggest that the Romans didn't think so but they weren't so much interesting in that. The Romans were hardhead nation and always had many other businesses and plans. They chose an other directions for the Empire expansion. If only the way cross-desert would promise wonders to them Romans did it.
  22. As far as I know Romans named this lands Sarmatia. Poland is Sarmatia and Ukraine is Sarmatia and North Caucasia is Sarmatia too. Although Romans distinguished between Slavic, Sarmatia and other tribes. The Scandinavian tribes were named Northmen. It's really easy! I suggest the Romans didn't think about Central Africa, I know that the territory of Sahara desert was named Libia. (correct me if I'm not right)
