Hitler's Murders Compared To Roman Empire
amcrazyjus replied to bernstein's topic in Gloria Exercitus - 'Glory of the Army'
the worst part about hitler was he didn't just kill them (like they were in the way ant it was the only way) he collected them made them work and barely fed them till they were almost see through (cause they were so skinny(i have seen pictures of these people)) and then told them they were gonna get a bath put them in gas chambers (them unnknowing till it was too late) and just killed them because he and the nazis thought that they were so bad that they deserved to die (remember they were jews, God's chosen people) i can't really see a similarity except they both were blood thirsty ;( -

What's Up With That?!
amcrazyjus replied to amcrazyjus's topic in Gloria Exercitus - 'Glory of the Army'
true rome was not built in a day but hannibal was a pain to beat, and the real problem was the romans were trying too hard to beat him, that they didn't see the easiest way to beat him. okay new question who do you think did rome have the hardest time with (besides hannibal) -
to start off... why did rome take so long to defeate some of the enimies and why did it take them even longer to defeate hannibal? sure he was great but they coulda stomped him out like fire but hannibal kept burning their toes, more like scorching?

The Roman Miltary Tactics
amcrazyjus replied to TonyGee's topic in Gloria Exercitus - 'Glory of the Army'
It's interesting to note that most Roman armor probably did not shine. They used a lot of chain mail (a sort of cloth made of circular links), which doesn't shine. They also made scale armor (metal plates about 3 inches long and about an inch wide, sewn together on a linen/leather backing.) Scale armor shines a little, but not much. And, they made leather armor, with the metal on the inside, or at least under the leather, probably again on a backing of linen, to make three layers. So, although the ancient Romans loved the ornate and glittery, their armor most probably did not shine! -
that is one to think about i mean come on when rme could take hannibal on they didn't they missed alot of times they could have stomped him out like a fire, but hannibal just kept burnning their toes. My thought

The Roman Miltary Tactics
amcrazyjus replied to TonyGee's topic in Gloria Exercitus - 'Glory of the Army'
the greatest queation of all is why, not how caould they have lost, i mean rome was very powerful and hannibal was a great leader (much to rome's dismay) but he only knew how to win the battles and not the wars, and the other problem was that rome didn't have any "major" emimies and that caused them to caulapse (correct me if i'm wrong) oh... the legions walked 18 miles a day not 24 (sorry!) -

The Roman Miltary Tactics
amcrazyjus replied to TonyGee's topic in Gloria Exercitus - 'Glory of the Army'
Well ok I know Marius's Reforms did a lot for the Roman Army and its Overall Quality but what i dont think it brought about was a major change in the Armys workings. The Army Became more mobile because of the Soldiers Profesionalism not because the Roman Army Group ( ie the Different units that make the legion ) was Flexible or Designed to be flexible. A roman Legion after the reforms of marius would still have struggled to cope with a force the likes of Which Carthage and Hannibal brought against them. Rome had a tendancy to struggle against any foe Who didnt Just paint their Faces blue and Run at their wall of spears like headless chickens. ive always seen the Roman legion as something as a Grinder, they would walk into the enemy as a wall and just grind their less well armoured enemies into the ground. No real Tactical victory just a my breastplate is harder then you're Chesthair kinda thing. Hey im clasping at straws here! it is very true but i think that was not the only problem the roman faced (like Hannibal) many fought well but lacked military work but hannibal had a great militatry skill, but he only knew how to win the battle not the war.
