  1. I got a ten out of ten! Of course I had four years of Latin in high school and also I am a student of the Classics.
  2. My picks would be: Gladiator-the opening scene, We Were Soldiers-the final charge, and Black Hawk Down- the whole movie from when the action started.
  3. I would give a hundred reason to fortify and secure the border with Germania.
  4. The Romans never preached racial superiority, I think? Also most of their killing was done in battle, and the troops didn't seek reprisals on native towns. Remember too that thinking was different then, if an enemy lost a battle the Romans took the oppertunity for a free for all. But I think they sought to mittigate any unnecesary slaughter (wouldn't make good policy when you are trying to occupy a land).
  5. Yeah the Celts were a pain in the neck for most of the mediterranean world, they had forests and mountains to conduct guerilla wars from, large numbers, and loose tribal structure (this allowed that if one tribe was defeated the others would keep fighting regardless). Most of the northern barbarians weren't like say the Persans where if the king was killed the army lost effectiveness, plus tall red-haired people painted blue are just creepy.
  6. Really what do analysis of there metal and metal making technology show, oh well I don't think the Romans required camoflage on the battle field something their bright red cloaks would have ruined anyways.
  7. Remember also that the Romans used iron which in open air with any moisture oxidizes (ex. gun bluing is a type of oxidation) so Roman armor may not have been that shiny after a week in the field.
  8. So Artorius Castus was different than the Arthur of Celtic legend.
  9. I ended up with: Sulla, Caesar, Nero, Cato Major, and Augustus?
  10. Why are there so many Alein and UFO webrings, or transexual believers? Why does religion correlate to belief in a higher power, by default doesn't philosophy make the person their own higher power, with the ability to determine what is right and wrong? Imagine a society like that, oh wait for all practical purposes we do have a society like that. P.S. Isn't Fafnir the adversary of Thor?
  11. Religion is defined by whorship, what you make sacrifices for, having an a-religious person is like an amoral person, it's alie no such thing exists. Dictionary,n. A malevolent literary divice for cramping the growth of a lanuage and making it hard and inelastic. This dictionary, however, is a most useful work. - Ambrose Beirce, The Devil's Dictionary.
  12. Does anyone know in what writings the Vascones (Basques) are discussed? Any information would be appreciated.
  13. Trying to revive it as a living language is pointless, however it should be used as a language in academic circles, law, religion, etc. Limited use would keep it in a sort of suppended animation, plus my major wouldn't be pointless.
  14. "He drinks, she drinks the slave and the female servent drink, the lady of the house drinks, the lord of the house drinks: at a late hour nobody is drinking." Most likely not completly correct but I get the jist.
  15. In the bronze age wasn't the area now called Austria populated by the Celts? I beleive it was, so I guess the kilt goes back pretty far.
  16. Everyone has a religion, maybe not a place where they go once a week, but something they live for everyday.
  17. What made the Roman Army sucessful was the use of manipular tactics, that is attacking in a checker board fashion. It had the strenghts of Phalanx actions with the fluidity of skrermish tactics. Appart from that the discipline and training in the Roman army was stiff and consistant, making the individual soldier a hard combat unit unto himself.
  18. I would like to live in Northern Spain, in the Basque land where my ancestors are from (my last name is directly Latin derived). I am though an American cowboy.
  19. In LatinIV: poetry we are using the Clyde Pharr Aeneid.
  20. They should build around the track, and the area where it was unearthed should be set aside.
