  1. If you're starting in Trapani you may want to consider Motya. The museum in Marsala is pretty good, too. Erice shouldn't really be missed, either. Not too much classical remains left there, though. In Calabria, don't leave out Sybaris, very underrated site.
  2. Do we have any virgins around here?
  3. Adding the chance of an undocumented bastard for each generation renders the whole thing moot anyway. There's bound to be one in 50 generations.
  4. I'm going with Tunisia on this one.
  5. If you're using V for U (VSQVE), you should change VIRTUS to VIRTVS as well. My knowledge of Latin is limited, but usque ad finem I believe means 'until the end' rather than 'bitter end'.
  6. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2084555/Palazzo-Orsini-Palace-resembles-Colosseum-sale-Rome-26m.html Let's raise some funds and make it UNRV HQ.
  7. Really? The facilities near the car park are fine, but at the site itself they're pretty much nonexistent. Folks walking the trail might not even realize there are any facilities at all, unless they ask.
  8. Abebooks is excellent, you can find pretty much anything, if you don't mind some wear and tear.
  9. I'm all for Green energy, but some NIMBY-concerns are unfairly dismissed. Things like noise and shadows:
  10. Yes, the geometric ones mainly. Ostia has a few really nice ones, as does Rome itself.
  11. Are you kidding me? It's fantastic.
  12. Never underestimate a Neapolitan!
  13. Nice. I've never been much of a Pompeii fan, to be honest. Like you said, maybe not overrated, but it's not paradise either. Not enough Late Antiquity either, although at least Pompeii has a decent excuse. And I thought the Swedish project was completed? I distinctly remember reading that somewhere.
  14. Bloody hell, I've been there and I don't recognize it. Dementia must be setting in Klingan, what site are you going to be working on?
  15. Thanks to all participants! Great stuff, Klingan, thanks a lot. Let's reminisce over Portus again, shall we? And if you get bored again, find me this one: Which picture took the most guesses?
  16. http://www.mainz.de/WGAPublisher/online/html/default/hthn-5ttj3j.de.html The remains of the real thing are in the museum, apparently. Oh well, I've been meaning to visit that part of Germany anyway.
  17. Spot on. Did you know it or google it? It's a fake, but I'd never heard of it.
  18. Track down a copy of "Pompei, pitture e mosaici", it's the most complete reference work I've seen. And it's for sale on Abebooks for a mere $14,000.
