  1. HAHAHAHA...Never noticed this post...Awesome!
  2. Welcome to our humble abode. What you have observed is indeed true, but this could be said of any public figure, the concept is known as Dignitas. It is easy to fall into the trap of translating it as "Dignity", but it is in reallity so much more. Think of it as personal influence, the more you have the more likely you'll be elected for office/post, the higher you go the more Clientella you have, therefore, more political influence. He was a middle of the road politician who advocated accord with the senate as the supreme body, but alas, the roman revolution was too polarized to accomodate such. Perhaps if he had been born earlier he could have impacted events.
  3. MPC is as interested in Caesar as I am, though for different reasons surely.
  4. He said that according to Cicero to Octavian.
  5. That my friend is FAR from a downfall, those same authors use the ancients and more for their material. I for one will primarily be using modern authors for reference, including MPC's much vaunted Gruen (when I finaly get round to reading it). I read Livy's War with Hannibal and enjoyed it, I read Livy's History of Rome and found it to be akin to hammering nails through one's own testicle...Chill, you did a good job but just try to follow the guidlines, think of it as teaching your brother/son something but not being there personally so you leave a note with instructions.
  6. Got it..You must have said that in a state of drunkeness like you namesake..
  7. Not seen..However everyones posts as a whole are quality material. Coincidentaly the subject happens to lead/derive from a subject which I was thinking of developing on pre-Gracchan popularist politics. Unfortunately I cannot sitdown and concentrate to develop such before before the weekend of 9/8.
  8. Find PP's post on Vegetius, read it, read Caesar's commentaries, read about the second punic war then make a post.
  9. No to my knowlege..The only MA quote that springs to mind is, "You, boy, who owes everything to a name."
  10. Same could be said for "Queen of Bythinia" or "Darling of Venus" type remarks. There nothing wrong with a Hail Caesar folks providing it is backed up with some meat. Hail Caesar
  11. Guys it applies ONLY to THIS sub-forum. All the others WILL REMAIN THE SAME! I was thinking more of an area to present a thesis. How this thesis would/could be challenged/improved upon by someone is still open I think.
  12. Great post...Keep it up. The man was scum
  13. But then you run the danger of jackassery..I think it should be an earned privilege. By this I mean to post, veiwing should be open to all.
  14. Is this open to everyone or just Pats and Eques?
  15. I'd say citations a la college paper. Novices will be reading this too so I reckon we go the full route!

The pharoes liked to take their toy with them
  17. I'm shooting these pics with a Nikon D200. Flashes aren't allowed in the museum, so I'm shooting at ISO 400, this statues lap was well lit so you can see a flare of brightness which spoils the pic a bit but its a good statue.
  18. Some of Ahkenaton's fish
  19. Some of Ahkenaton's grapes
