We've all seen dreadful "historical" movies. Do you have a favorite, unintentionally hilarious line from just such a movie? Here's one of mine: My hips are round and well apart. It's next to impossible to prevent that kind of vandalism, unless you take the Stonehenge approach, which I don't think Rome can afford. Never having been to Rome, I wonder whether they have signs up (as in our subways over here) that read: "If you see something, say something"? Better still: "If you see something, DO something." It takes very little to encourage private citizens to become vigilantes -- and their policing efforts (especially if they become violent) can be highly entertaining. I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with you there Nephele. I would not attribute the control of the masses merely to monotheisitc religions, all religions has control over their aherents to a certain extent, regardless whether the religion in question preaches about many gods or only one. it is in my view a characterstic of all religions in general. Actually, Aegyptus, I also happen to be of the opinion that all religions exert control over their adherents. The person whom you should be addressing here, however, is The Augusta, and not me. Okay, for a limited time only, I will share a pic of myself. But, as Docoflove can tell you (when she visited me in NYC) I hate, hate, HATE pictures of myself. So I hope you appreciate the sacrifice I'm making here. This pic was taken on the deck of Crabby Jerry's in Greenport, Long Island, where I was enjoying a crab salad. It's one of my favorite pics because of the giant osprey sculpture captured in the background (upper left of photo). That's "Morning Call" by Roberto Julio Bessin. He created the sculpture as a memorial after the World Trade Center disaster, and it's made of the steel recovered from Ground Zero. Regardless of how much sunlight to which I may be exposed, I remain gothly pale. -- Nephele

Aha! I thought I'd remembered a thread somewhere on the UNRV board where a bunch of us had started posting our kiddie pics. And so I found it (postings from May-September of 2007): Summer of Love, 40th Anniversary. The kiddie pics seem to have vanished over time, but we had kiddie pics posted by Northern Neil, The Augusta, Docoflove, and myself, and promises of kiddie pics from GPM and Moonlapse. -- Nephele
