  1. The Bosporan Kingdom was a vassal state. Be sure to read these threads: The Bosporan Kingdom, frontier of Roman Empire http://www.unrv.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1784 Pontic Empire http://www.unrv.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1544

Is this a scanned image from physical maps that you have? If so, I'd be very interested in the title, publisher, etc.
  4. Ok. So the first 20 members ordered by post count, descending? How did you determine the rank data? Sorry if I'm grilling you, this is fairly new to me. Perhaps I learned this long ago, bu its much more interesting now.
  5. Yes, I have to say that the community members we have here are a head above any of those in the other forums I've participated in. You guys rock.
  6. Regarding Caparcotna/Legio as the location of Legio II Traiana Fortis c. AD 117 - I haven't been able to find references by classical authors, as yet. These two referrences are the most relevant and credible: "Palestine." Encyclop
  7. The place is also known as Megiddo(Armageddon) and later called Legio. Judaea was made into a consularship at the time, and 2 legions were required to be stationed there. While I have no direct data placing Legio II at the spot, all subsequent legions were stationed at either Caparcotna/Legio (X Fretensis, VI Ferrata) or Jerusalem/Aelia Capitolina. I'll collect all the references I've found and present them.
  8. After seeing a few of the funny/strange/impressive things that Vig has found on Google Video I decided to waste some time searching around and I found some excellent videos of some of my favorite music WEE!!!! Porcupine Tree - Trains, Start of Something Beautiful, Blackest Eyes Opeth - Closure, The Drapery Falls In Flames - System Depeche Mode - Precious Meshuggah - New Millenium Cyanide Christ <<LMFAO!!!
  9. My avatar is Captain Murphy while he's singing "What Do We Do With A Drunken Sailor" after he's been trapped under the Be Bop Cola machine (the image is rotated 90 degrees) and addicted to scorpion venom for a while (hence the stings on his face). His teeth have been knocked out by cans shooting out of the fallen machine and subesquently collected for a necklace by a 'rescue toaster'.
  10. So this array of posters... how exactly were they selected?
  11. The first thing that pops into my mind is Yngwie Malmsteen wedding. YNGWIE!!!!
  12. Aelia Capitolina was the name given to the colonia built by Hadrian on Jerusalem's ruins in 131... pretty close, but Legio X Fretensis was in Jerusalem at the given time (117). Arabia Petraea is the area of the province of Arabia near the city Petra. Anyone else? This took me for-freaking-ever to find out. It's close to the provincial capital.
  13. Titus Manlius Torquatus I thought I'd revive this thread because I've ran into a very elusive question. After Trajan's Parthian campaign, he stationed Legio II Traiana Fortis in Judea. Where in Judea were they stationed?
  14. Ahhh, I shouldn't get started. Let's just say that I think the U.S. federal government should be strictly self-involved and have no hand in economic affairs. International politics would be mostly on an 'individual' basis.
  15. I wouldn't consider this purely physical. You said she was not exactly pretty or smart, nor does she really say anything and you don't know much of anything about her. Well, romance is mystery. I say at least satisfy the curiosity and get to know her, you'll probably learn a lot about yourself.
  16. The Han dynasty in China expanded their borders in the early 3rd century. Related discussion: http://www.unrv.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=2624
  17. I'm not sure about the history channel, but Angus McBride and Gerry Embleton do many of the illustrations for Osprey books.
  18. Ohhh geez, bad but enjoyable... the first thing that pops into my head are Drangonlance/Forgotten Realms books. I guess I'd agree with Suetonius also... I made the mistake of trying to search for some hard data in his gossip-mongering.
  19. I've been reading things here and there about the EU mandating, on penalty of an incredible fine, that Microsoft ship its own product Windows without Microsoft's own media player and to reveal parts of its programming code to rivals. Microsoft has already settled with the U.S. Justice Department, revealing code and allowing PC makers and conumsers to hide the bundled software. All this in the name of 'fair competition'. This isn't just about Microsoft, it's about property rights. Personally, I favor Apple computers even though I do not own one. However, because Microsoft has been more successful with Windows, which will run on a very wide selection of hardware, does this mean they should be penalized for including additional software in their own product? I would rather destroy this site than be forced to remove certain content or functionality for the sake of 'fair competition'. This site only exists because people produced it, and it in no way should be subject to the whims of those who have not created it.
  20. Was his house constructed of loosely crumpled newspaper?? I mean a mouse has only so much fur to burn and hair burns really fast. That blows my mind if it is indeed true. Edit: Maybe I should read the thread first
