  3. That would be Time Commanders, the first series was good but the second series was a bit of a dissapointment to me.Probably because of that irritating little ponce Richard Hammond who hosted the show.If you scrool down the link it shows which Battles they reproduced. Longbow
  4. I know the legionaries could be re assigned to different parts of the Empire depending on where they were needed most, but would they go individually to far flung places or would it be as the centuriae that they got there orders?Or even the Cohort? Thanks,Longbow.
  5. Im sure it did,the London Blitz carried on for a while after the BOB (night raids only). But it wasnt only London what took a lot of damage, most city's were repeatedly hit by bombers,i think Coventry was hit especially hard. Longbow
  6. The Book im reading say's two Cavalry units and at least sixteen Infantry/mixed units were raised in Britain from defeated peoples during the first century. The majority of the Infantry were posted in Danubian provinces,Pannonia,Moesia,Dalmatia and Dacia, the cohors II Britannorum served at Regensburg on the Danube river. From the second century Numeri Brittonum (Irregular units) are known to be on the German frontier, these British Auxiliary units totalled around 12,000 men, with supplementary recruitment requiring an average of between 500 and 750 men per year to make up the numbers completing service or dying. By the time of Hadrian it is probable that most recruitment of the Britons was directed to established units allready based in Britain and the 'ethnic' units on the Danube lost there British 'Charachter'.There was 30,000 auxilia in Brtiains garrisons, this implies an anual top up of 1200-1500 men or 12,000-15,000 per decade. An Imperial Possession. Longbow
  7. Wasnt he made Dictator for a second time to put down a Plebian revolt?maybe thats why Vorenus doesnt like him. Ohio statue.
  8. There's a few American's playing in the Premier League,Mcbride and Keller were playing here for years but now some youngun's are doing well over here. USA today Longbow
  9. Hartlepool united for me we have the grand total of two points from five games! We did manage to beat the mighty Burnley in the cup though . L
  10. The Tory party are wanting to ban Romanian's from working unrestricted in the UK when Romania joins the EU.They say the Government got it wrong when Poland joined up and Polish nationals were allowed to come into Britain and work, they dont want Romanian's to have the same privilege. The Labour party claimed that 12-15,ooo Poles had came into Britain to work, but the actual figure is more like 250,000.I find it shocking that the Government doesnt actually know how many migrant workers are here!but thats Britian for you. But as nearly all those 250,000 are actually working (200 or so are claiming unemployment benefits) i dont see what the problem is with the Poles, there's three working at the same company as me and there a great bunch!it can be a bit of a brain bubbler trying to communicate with them as none of them speak English yet but they get the idea in the end Daily Mail L
  11. Here's one. ancient sculpture gallery. looks like an expensive game, collecting Bust's.
  12. The Glorious Spitfire. You've got to make your first swing count or your dead . LRDG,the first SAS troopers. Shieldwall. A nice shield.
  13. My Armoury is a excellent source for info on any type of Blade, less so on Armour but there's some. There's a lot of well writen articles and the Forums a wealth of information,a bit like around here . Broken Back Saex. Gladius article. I like weapons used by the common man, just simple killing tools no fancy decorations, allthough a nice welded pattern blade is desirable. If im going to buy a weapon it might as well be a good quality blade even if the quality of the blade makes it unrealistic,i'll live with it . I would love to own this. A more exotix weapon i like is the Indian Gunstock war club ,after seeing D.D Lewis's dad use one in the movie 'Last of the Mohicans',i dont have one of these but i'd love one!
  14. Can you change the Icons to something more appropriate? when i add a Bookmark to the toolbar the Icon is a Firefox badge.I tried to change the Icon in the Properties but there's only another two Firefox badges to choose from,do you know how i can change these Icons? Thanks.L
  15. Me too,i allso like the Pop up blocking Mozilla does .
  16. There is some cases of Tornado's in Europe but there not the big one's that cause damage, its very rare for the big fast one to touch down, but it does happen occasionaly. Tornado's in Britain Torro. I remember watching the Whirlwinds (thats what we called them) forming in the loose hay on the farmers fields when we were kids. They look like mini Tornados but they cause no damage you can even play in them . L
  17. Cavalry is used to get behind the formations and charge the troops from behind, doing it this way is devastating but if you charge your horses into a formed up shield wall they'll be killed without many losses to the Infantry.I suppose it depends on how you are using your Horses in the game,in reality if a Cavalry unit charged into a Century who were expecting them the Cavalry would lose. I dont know about Roman Cavalry but Medieval Destriers would canter up to the formation and only charge the last few strides, this as a lot to do with the weight of the animal.Destriers were Big Horses not the Thoroughbred breed we see in the movies, they were more like a Clydesdale in size and with the weight of the armour too it was impossible for them to charge at full gallop. can someone explain step by step I dont undertand all the computer terms You have to uninstall the game because the realism MOD is a full conversion, there's a lot of files to be changed. Its really worth doing m8 you wont be dissapointed. 1 uninstall the game then reinstall and add the official patch. 2 once you've added the patch download the 6.0 RTR MOD from the site allready posted, its a free MOD there's no cash involved . 3Install the MOD once you've downloaded it,its really easy to do just follow the instructions. 4Now you can play the game. Longbow
  18. There's a aerial photo of the Hillfort in this Link. Longbow
  19. Of course they were,do you think Hardrada would would offer battle to Godwinson without equipment? The 'Vikings' were fully armed, even with Crossbows which the Saxons had never faced before. Who was the Duke of York? Hardrada had allready fought with the Earles Edwin (Mercia) and Morcar (Northumbria),York was in Northumbria at the time and fell under Morcars juristiction. On this map you'll see Northumbria goes as far north as Edinburgh and as far south as hull.Allthough its a earlier than the 11 CE York still fell into Northumbria i just dont have a Saxon 11Ce map on my PC. Godwinson was the one who defeated the Norwegians at Stamford bridge,he didnt send anybody in his stead, he fought in the front rank like he allways did.The scary conquering 'Vikings' were no match for the Saxon Huscarls, they'd fought many battles before and the Saxons were the better troops. L Edit to fix quotes.
  20. The security services tend to leave arresting the suspects untill the last minute, that way they can get as much information out of the survailance as possible. If they arrested them as soon as they had an inkling of the threat then they'd only catch the lower level Terrorists. Its the Al Qaida members they really want to catch, and some were arrested in Pakistan according to the BBC news last night . Anyone know why the Metropolitan police building is called 'Scotland yard'?,its like the American's calling there FBI building 'Canada garden' or 'Mexico drive' . Longbow.
  21. Brunanburgh was a great victory for the Saxon's.It was a very significant battle in Britain's history because if they lost then Aengland would of fell to the Northmen hundred plus years before the Battles at Stamford bridge and hastings. I voted for Battle of Britain,if the RAF lost that battle then the Axi's forces would of had the ability to invade Britain.Without Britain as a staging post to the European theatre it would of been a lot harder to defeat the German's.maybe impossible....
  22. Indeed, the book i referenced was referring to the early Republic soldier's.Soldiers who were still wearing the Pectorale breast guard. Dont you think the Legionnaries feet are vulnerable?if i cant get my spear into his ankles because of the Greaves i think a nice leaf bladed Spear could slice through his caligae and take two or three toes off . L
  23. Had a look in a few books and it appears the Hastati and Princep's of the Republican Maniples wore a Greave on the left leg,the forward leg in the battle stance. ok,if he's wearing Greaves i'll try to get my Spear into his face .It is possible,i saw a 'Pict' reenactor showing how to roll the wrist to get the Spear tip around a Shield and up into the head area. I have a question regarding the Scutums, how popular was this design of shield? Its a Celtic design so i assume there was plenty of them in the Gallic tribes.Did many of Rome's enemy's face them with the same equipment? Its such a fine Shield i would of thought it was a favourite amongst the Warriors of the age. L
  24. I dont think Greaves were standard equipment in the Republic or after Marius reformed the Legions. As i understand it Greaves were worn by Centurions and the other high rankers but the standard Legionnaires only wore them if he bought them himself, they werent issued to him. During Trajen's Dacian campaign the Legionnaires were taking a lot of ankle injuries to the fearsome Falx so Trajen issued Greaves, but i dont know if it was just for that campaign or if they kept on wearing them,im sure some one will enlighten us .
