  1. In the first Episode on American tv when Vorenus and Pullo had killed the Gauls who had Octavian and the Eagle,Pullo plunges his Gladius into the ground and says prayers to mars. That part of the scene was cut out on the British episode why?why?why? My third favorite character is Mark Anthony because he is just such an as*hole and it somethig about him makes him very entertaining.

  4. The scene where Vorenus and Pullo are riding to find the Eagle and talking about 'why Vorenus choose pullo to go along' was shortened on the British version for some reason :blink:i noticed another shortened scene but cant remember which one right now,i'll edit my post when i re watch the episode. Rome on the BBC

  11. In Caesars Gaul conquest he did something what i've never understood, why did he massacre the inhabitants of Aviricum?what was the point in doing this? I can understand him selling everyone into slavery because of the profit involved but killing everyone makes no sence to me.If he did it to make an example and to scare the Gauls it had the opposite effect with even more tribes flocking to Vercingetorex. But vercingetorex did something i dont understand either, when he sent his non combatants out of Gergovia because he didnt have enougth food to feed them, he must have known Caesar didnt have the food for them either, and after what Caesar had done at Aviricum did he really think Caesar would look after his enemy's people? Do you think these leaders made the right decisions?or should Caesar have sold the city instaed of Killing it?should Vercingetorex have attacked the Romans when he realised he coldnt feed everyone in the city? Any thoughts?
  12. I read somewhere that the Romans would eat eggs with a nearly ready to emerge chick inside. How gross, wouldnt the feathers get stuck in the teeth.

  15. I think people who ask to be a MOD are the ones to be wary of,wasnt it when Ursus got made up to a MOD that Spartacus got all jealous and went nuts on the forum
  16. If you want to use Decapitation as a execution technique then the Guilotine is the best way of doing it.At least the head would come clean off, which was rare if you were using a sword or axe.It took the executioner two swings of his sword to get Mary Queen of Scots head off! You often had to pay the executioner to sharpen his weapon,if you never payed him he'd use a blunt sword/axe and he'd take a good few hacks before he killed you, lousy b******. I'd choose a Guilotine over a sword man any day
  17. Nice link Trajen thats an ecxellent website for Americans planning a visit to the UK .Some of the language guide is totally accurate i say that every day
  18. the bullet what killed Nelson hit him in the top of his shoulder, the ball went through his chest cutting his spine and finally lodged in his lung. After his death the sailors put his body in a barrel of brandy to preserve his remains untill they could get back to England. Nelson was one of those sailors who had a feel for the sea,he knew just what to do and just when to do it.He would even dissobey his orders to achieve the victory,a very risky business. St Vincent
  19. For the British members,its starting on BBC2 9pm on November 2nd
  20. Well, you said it was optional to waer the red cross on a white tunic, all i said was it ISNT optional if your a Templar. I was only trying to compare the two soldiers, now you've made me up to Royalty! thanks Sir Longbow
  21. An 11th century Norman Knight wouldnt be waring any plate armour he would be in a chainmail suit including a coif. His horse would of had a chainmail chest covering and maybe one for the flanks but in the 11th CE the horse wouldnt have ant face armour, that was much later. The Knights kite shield was designed to protect the riders left side including the leg, thats why its kite shaped,an excellent shield for a rider. The lance's in the 11thCE were basically heavy spears, with this type of lance you can only get the power from the speed of the horse and the riders right arm.The crouched lance (the one with the hand guard) was developed in the 14th CE,this lance is much more powerful as it allows you to get your full body and the weight of the horse behind the blow, much more damaging. It seems to come down to which is better armour scale or chain? is a scale suit lighter than a chain one? ( i wore a hauberk once and i couldnt believe the weight of the thing) i have no idea, but scale armour looks heavier. The Norman war horse is a big bugger who's trained to bite and kick the enemy, and he'll allso spin in circles once the Knight has used the lance and is then in the thick of the action. Its spins so it cant get its back legs hamstrung whilst the rider is chopping or bashing the enemy, making it more difficult to bring down. Are the Byzantine horses like this? maybe Tobias knows about Byzantine horses but i havent got a clue . Pic i found of a less heavily armed cataphract, his horse has no armour. BTW,high Yoritomo White robes and a red cross were'nt optional if you were a Knight Templar, thats there orders colours.
  22. Ireland was independant from Rome but it wasnt from the Danes, take a look at this DNA survey,it appears the Welsh are the most Celtic of the British Isles.

    Pendragon

Hes worth looking into Ursus i enjoyed all his books, the main characters in the Arthur trilogy are all members of Mithras and there's some interesting scenes regarding the initiation ceremony,i dont know how accurate they are but Cornwell's usually quite good historicaly.
  24. thanks guys, going out on the razz later on tonight,so i should be in a sorry state for work at 6am monday

    Pendragon

I like these Arthurian books. The Romans have left Britain but theres still some tribes who stay loyal to there Roman ways,so there's a mix of Celts and Roman's fighting the saxon invaders. And Arthur is very much a Celtic warlord in these novels,i've read these books many times i love B.Cornwells work and i recommend reading them if you have the time.
