  1. Have you read the Belisarius book by Lord Mahon?? There aren't many books around about this great Roman, Mahon's book was written in the 1800's so is obviously quite old fashioned in its reading but still very good, although it does rely heavily on Procopius where as Ian's book gives us a much wider insight into the life of Belisarius. Both are excellent books, although Ian's in probably the better and more entertaining of the two, Lord Mahon's is still worth reading.
  2. I ordered the book earlier this week from Amazon, it should be here anyday. Hopefully it will be gold plated too! Well it should be after how much I paid for it!!!!
  3. Anybody know if there are any plans to release this show in the UK?
  4. That does sound interesting. Thanks for the scoop! Believe me Ursus it is interesting!! I can't put the bloody thing down!! The pace of the story just keeps getting faster and faster as the story unravels and Stephen King's story telling is at it's very best, the man's a genius! It's quickly turning into one of the best books I've ever read, the only problem is that I'm getting towards the latter stages of the book now and I really don't want it to end!
  5. I've just finished The Sword of Revenge by Jack Ludlow, its the second book in his "Republic" series. I'm now reading Stephen Kings latest epic offering, Under the Dome. So far this book is brilliant, its on a par with what in my opinion his his best book The Stand.
  6. New inscriptions have been unearthed during excavations at the ancient city of Pompeiopolis, in Taşk
  7. This is only for the UK members, A new Documntary series of Deadliest Warrior starts tonight on Bravo at 10pm... Roman Centurion V Rajput Warrior....... Wil the Rajput Warrior's evil looking weapons be all flash and no substance when they facethe Roman Centurion's cold steel?
  8. I've just watched the season finale of Spartacus and it was really good, the best episode of the series. I very nearly didn't bother sticking with the show after the first episode, I thought it was a bit silly!!! But I'm glad I did, it got better and more entertaining as it went on. Is the next series gonna be a prequel?? I know it hits the UK in 2011 but that's all. Anyone got a bit more info on it??
  9. Another good song with a Roman theme is "Decline and fall of ancient Rome" by Goldblade. Put it in the iTunes search engine, surprisingly it's actually Not a bad song, quite catchy infact!
  10. I too am have no permission to view the blogs?? But the "view new posts" option is now located at the bottom of the main forum page under the new title of "Today's Active Content" but I must admit it took me a while to find it. Also I've been back on the forum for a few days now and all the recent posts since I've been back have disappeared. But apart from those few little niggles, on the whole I think its looking pretty good.!
  11. It may not be a solid study but "The Assassination of Julius Caesar" by Michael Parenti has an excellent chapter called "Demagogues and death squads" which covers the whole question of demagoguery, in particular the rise of the Gracchi, Catiline, Caesar and the leading men of the Republic who fell into the category of Populares.
  12. It also makes me wish I had a spare
  13. Other than Book I of The Annals by Tacitus where he starts by detailing the later stages of the reign of Augustus before continuing with the story of Imperial Rome, I'm not sure but I'd also be interested in reading any other articles etc.
  14. Thanks for posting JG, I'm not involved but I'll certainly try an attend one one or two of the scheduled exhibitions/festivals.
  15. Better late than never!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY JG!!! Hope you had a good one.
  16. I'm sure it's just a bit of reverse psychology on Rogers part, trying to make out that he's not the slightest bit bothered or concerned about Fedors talent and reputation. But you can bet your life that he's studied every single little bit piece of footage Emelianenko's fights he can get his hands on, if he hasn't then he's either plain stupid or unbelievably rock hard!!
  17. The book was pretty good really, no new revelations or anything like that, it focused mainly on the effect and the aftermath of the assassination of Caesar had on Rome and whether it actually really achieved anything in the long run. It deals with the questions of tyranny and political assassination through out the ages. All in all a pretty decent book but I'm glad I didn't pay the full asking price.
  18. I don't really have any clue on the copyright laws what so ever so on that front I can't help but I would just like to say that I've been following your blog from the start and have enjoyed the pictures and the little explanation that goes with each one, so whatever the case with the copyright thing, if you have to give the museums credit then do so but just keep on blogging!!!
  19. A excellent and accurate review of my favorite Roman novel. Thanks JG, think I might go and read it.........again!!!
  20. You never know Russ! keep plugging away and one day who knows..........everyone has to start somewhere and Gladiatrix IMO was an excellent starting place. I for one enjoyed it and will certainly purchase the next book when it's published.......(That is if I get a walk in part too!!!! )
  21. I can believe it, I bet it can become really addictive. I just registered with it and havent a clue what is going on! Is there an online manual somewhere? You just kind of have to suck it and see, once you get your city you get 7 days to build it up before you can be attacked. there's a routine quest that helps you along and gives you targets to meet in order to progress to the next level. It's pretty good fun but be warned it can get rather addictive.
  22. I can believe it, I bet it can become really addictive.
  23. I was just wondering if anybody had played or come across Evony which is a browser based multiplayer online game? I've played it for a couple of days now and am quite enjoying it, you start of with basically very little and have to build up your city by populating it and building farms, mining, lumbering etc. You get seven days of peace to establish yourself before you become open to attack from neighbouring cities. This is the first time I've played anything like this online and just wondered if anybody had any thoughts on this game. http://www.evony.com/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evony
  24. Good to have you back Aurelia!
