  1. I must admit that I didn't notice it when I was looking through the pages back then. The design is most clever if it's working as I (In this 7.45 am state of mind) think it does. Actually it's interesting enough for me to see if I can find something more on the subject as soon as possible. I didn't even know that they existed when I was writing my paper last year so it's kinda confusing me how I could miss them. Ps. I would say Classical appeal Btw the way I know I'm going way off topic here but exactly how much is your fountain effected by the impurity in the water, how good/bad is the quality of the water is and if you would like to where you live (The kind of bedrock there is in your area matters). Any information on how much you need to clean it would be great too. For anyone wondering I'm writing my candidature essay on roman water systems inside the cities at the moment that's why I'm so interested (Except for my normal interest of course). This might be a good point for a split topic.
  2. You find most works here. I would recommend Suetonius emperor biographies. They're great fun to read! The one I have is translated my Robert Graves, but I can't say much about the quality of the translation. Was a long time since I read it.
  3. Not really what I had in mind but it's beautiful! Faustus, the tower of winds have already been discusses here, nice information though.
  4. Do you know if you asked Firefox to remember you? Yes I did. How ever it's not a problem for me, it was more meant to inform the Triumviris if there is a database error or something. It's actually just making me remember my password and that's a good thing.
  5. The site keeps forgetting me, does it all the time, been like that forever. I normally just log on again and don't think about it. (Firefox)
  6. Football! And the real thing, I really wish they ever would show some games at the tv here too.
  7. Time to push down cookies on his grave again I guess
  8. Probably beacuse he's a famous main actor in the events that led to the empire. I am faced with the same question all the time, as lately as yesterday. They just need a short lesson in Roman history to cure them.
  9. Well we could always sacrifice the cake? The defied one will inhale the smoke in his wherever he is!
  10. When talking about Rome Total War, they are working on Empire: Total War right now, and it's certainly looking great. Sea battles included for the first time. More information here
  11. A lot of people fins his books tiresome, mostly it's his rather detailed environment descriptions they say. I like them personally.
  12. Oh yeah baby that's it! No doubt! How much was it now the domain was worth? Maybe you can arrange a trade! Anyway on a serious side note, it's quite sad to see that you just can sell something like that. I should be preserved for the public and future not exploited by private owners.
  13. If you want to try the Rome Total Realism modification. It's highly recommended in every possible way.
  14. It's certainly looking impressive but by Mars I will never, ever again set foot in a MMORPG. Gods know that they can ruin the life of anyone.
  15. It's a little disturbing to be honest but I don't find it much worse then The iron age Mickey Mouse that have been under that name for a while too. It's most likely a great advantage for archaeologists to be able to refer a recent find to a popular name. More publicity will give you more founds.
  16. Oh no harm at all. Actually I'm jsut happy to see that the thread goes on and we all keep learning new things here!
  17. Triumphant arch of Caracalla in Volubilis We had that one a while ago. I saw that I was missed here, I'm sorry gentlemen but I have very little time on my hands at the moment. I'm reading at double speed at uni, including my candidate essay, and giving lectures on ancient history at a local gymnasium (School for kids between 16 and 19 years old) Edit: If anyone's interested, I've uploaded some pictures form my last field trip in my album!
  18. Scientists, wringing their hands over the identity of the famed "hobbit" fossil, have found a new clue in the wrist. Since the discovery of the bones in Indonesia in 2003, researchers have wrangled over whether the find was an ancient human ancestor or simply a modern human suffering from a genetic disorder. Now, a study of the bones in the creature's left wrist lends weight to the human ancestor theory, according to a report in Friday's issue of the journal Science. Read more here. I've not had very much time for posting those news for a while, I'm having tons of work at university at the moment. I could not stay away from this one thou!
  19. Sounds great, most defiantly going to look for that book in the university library at Monday. And the unicorn tablets are just amazing! It will come in very handy quite soon for me! Many thanks!
  20. A while ago I found out about those marvelous structures and decided to see if I could find some decent information about them (So far the best thing I've found is Wikipedia and I'm not very happy about that at all). I've found some in quite old books at the university library but it's all of quite little use. Any help/information/discussion around the subject would be greatly appreciated.
  21. If you enjoy hack 'n slash games (As in Diablo etc) you might wanna try Titans quite. It's fun for a while at least. There's also two roman city building games out there, that I've tried and both were quite decent.
  22. I was at a field trip a few days ago and I took a lot of pictures. I figured that they might be appreciated here so I decided to upload a selection of 31 out of about 100 pictures. I can probably fill in some info about the different sites if anyone is interested. Most of them already have a small description. The pictures are in the reversed order by mistake but here they are: Field trip.
  23. They even burned marble statues. When burned they (This is somewhat dubious to me) may be used for concrete.
  24. Actually I don't think any warning in the world would have gone through to them. Actually they didn't even had a word for volcano. To be honest I'm quite surprised of that since they surly must have encountered some like Etna.
