  1. It is not, but the date (conquest by the Romans) is not far away (And thus not as early as I originally though). It is primarily not known as a Roman town.
  2. I found this album here while surfing the site and many members should surely appreciate it. Thanks to Pantagathus for uploading it!
  3. The city was conquered rather early by the Romans.
  4. All well here too, only a few hours left at work, then I'm off for two weeks until I go back to Uni. German is on the schedule this year, side by side with Latin and Classical Greek. Can't wait.
  5. I must unfortunately confess that I cannot find my shots of the ship details (which most probably means that I never took any pictures of them), but you'll find them in the Palazzo Massimo (Next to the Termini station) if you go to Rome again. On the matter of books on the subject, I've never even seen them mentioned. It is incredible that they can stay this unknown!
  6. Got two of them; Spartacus (2004) - Got to love the scene in the end when Caesar declare that Pompey and Crassus are to be co-consuls. Cyclops - there just isn't one thing right in this film.
  7. You need to be promoted to the equites to do that, something which normally is done manually by the admins when a new user has proven to be active for some time.
  8. Such activities were not considers work, the aristocracy actually stayed away from anything that they considered a real job (at least in theory) as it was considered below their dignity - the only acceptable form of work was agriculture. Mercantile activities was common in practise though, as it was very profitable.
  9. It's a great documentary, if it's the same as I've seen a while ago! Anyway, I'll upload the pictures as soon as I get home from work.
  10. There are many good albums here too if you enjoy looking at other peoples photos as well! And welcome
  11. This goes for most of the population actually - it is probable that most of the meat the general population ate came from public sacrifices.
  12. Well, I've always been told that Ajax killed himself after his mad sheep rampage (After the competition about Achilles armour) - however when I read the Odyssey (Song IV) I cannot but notice that Homer tells us that he was drowned by Neptune. Does anyone know how this fit into the story?
  13. Oooops! Sorry for that The religion of Iuppiter Dolichenus in the Roman army by Michael Speidel once again. Thanks a lot!
  14. That has got to be one of the best quotes I've ever seen!
  15. I don't know anything about the restorations but I've seen some of what
  16. The diet was indeed varied, 1.4 kg bread, 0.45 kg meat, 1 l wine and 5 cl oil per day was a minimum according to Goldsworthy (1996, 291). He won't mention where he gets his information from however. It is however true that food based on grain was more popular than other types of food, even meat. (I reckon that there is one ancient source mentioning that the soldiers revolted when they were out of grain and had to live on meat only for some time, something which could be miss-used in vegetarian propaganda - I cannot leave a reference to this though.)
  17. Your link is broken. Could you try to post it again?
  18. I was thinking about the date earlier this morning, my guts told me that it was far earlier than 86 Bc Had no time to check it up though.
  19. Oh well, I guess I gotta go to the library then! Thanks for mentioning it!
  20. Thanks! I've been thinking about buying one, not very seriously though. This is of course worth thinking of. I would never buy a coin that wasn
  21. Is the third on the market already? Damn! I just finished the second.
