  1. The Power of Images in the Time of Augustus by Paul Zanker should be your starting point (preferably the un-translated German version if possible).
  2. I was actually really close to start working on a board, but it wouldn't come to anything serious as I can't make any new drawings.
  3. Thanks guys! Metaponto is certainly on my list and I'll look into the others. Reggio might be difficult thou, as I'm not going to Sicily. Maladict, do you know how far it is from modern Metaponto to the site?
  4. No worries if it doesn't, I wouldn't like to prevent you from using the time as efficiently as possible.
  5. It's too bad that there are no pictures, but I suspect that will be the case in all further articles on the matter until the fragments (I presume) are properly published.
  6. Thanks, glad that you like it! Let me know when you're around (if you want to) - I'm living in Athens at the moment.
  7. I'm planning a trip to southern Italy to fill in the blank spot I have south of Potenza and Paestum. The plan is to land at Brindisi and then move along the southern coast (unfortunately without visiting Sicily), but is there anyone who's familiar with the region and have something to recommend? What is a must see and what is overrated? E.g. how much is really left in Tarentum? Thanks
  8. I can't see them either. By the way, you should take a look at Kolonna at Aegina if you're interested in Spolia - there's an amazing wall built up almost exclusively by reused inscriptions and architectural members. Here is just a small example where you can see two inscriptions and one triglyph.
  9. Did the Greeks understand the relation between the sun and the moon (i.e. that the moon could only glow by reflecting sunlight)?
  10. Hey, thanks guys. I've had a great day - I started off in the Nordic library for about an hour before going to the Stoa of Attalos where I'm currently working. Then I spent most of my evening having a nice dinner and going to a film screening at the finish institute. Any sort of regular celebration was impossible due to the riots, but I can easily compensate for that during the coming weekend!
  11. I've never read this theory and can, thus, hardly say anything with confidence, but it seems a little bit odd. Does the myth of Perseus exist in the east?
  12. It's too bad that it's no just somewhat later; I'll be in Rome during the end of June.
  13. Fair enough, I'll me sneakier next time
  14. Spot on! Was it really that easy?
  15. Thanks! The peacock mosaic form the house of Dionysos was a dead give-away!
