I agree, Alexander could have beaten the Indians with ease. The Indian warfare tactics was no where near the level of Alexander's. These were strange people to him, so he did not know how to cope with them. They had elephants and many men, but Alexander killed 600,000 Persians in one battle! Alexander's battle tested men could have taken any land if they had the ability to do it. His men were never tired, after all they though he was the son of Zeus. Alexander was known for not losing a battle and winning with relative ease wherever he went. Why would India be any different? At that time the Persian kingdom was a lot more powerful than India, and much richer. Alexander the Great may have been an underdog going in, but he became victorious going out.

Macedonian Conquest
Rameses the Great replied to sythin's topic in Gloria Exercitus - 'Glory of the Army'
Yes he did, he also planned to conquer Carthage. His unfortunate death stopped the Macedonian dominance. The central government had to segment the lands among his successor's. He actually showed more desire for Persian culture than his own. So he was going to conquer Rome, he just could not mellow down and died at a result of constant anxiety for battle. Also once he conquered Rome and Carthage he would have went to the end of the universe to conquer anything. That is just the thing that made him Alexander the Great. You can just tell that I'm an Alexander guy all the way. -

No doubt Moonlapse, Ford is a terrible car. It gets stuck in the snow, it takes up soo much gas, and it costs too much for its on good. You should try a Japanese car. They are a lot more durable, and it will not break in 3 years. Just my opinion. Just go to the mall and glance at the cars. Most of them are Japanese, my brother that goes to Penn State drives a Civic, and makes it look so easy. My sister had a pontiac, and after two years it was the most beat up thing I have ever seen. And she drives a lot better than my brother! I hope everything works out well for you Lost Warrior.

Most Influential Historical Leader
Rameses the Great replied to tflex's topic in Historia in Universum
I agree, Napoleon was very liked and influential. Stalin and Hitler were also extremely influential. I mean the extreme Conservative was derived from Hitler's regime and the extreme Liberal from Stalin's regime. But how were they liked? Napoleon's men wanted to fight for him and even went into a suicidal mission in Russia. When he was exiled the European coalition forced Napoleon to live in a desolate island in the Mediterranian. They put King Louis back in power. Napoleon tried to come back to France but his men was to take him back. His general and his men, took him and did not kill him. They put him back in power and gave Louis the guillotine. His men was facing a coalition from England, Prussia, Russia, and Austria. Had he not lossed to British in Waterloo who knows what could have happened. But coming back from exile and killing the Austro-Prussian army, and a seperate battle against Russia, who knows...who knows. One can ony guess the beauty and magnificence of history. -
Hadrian's Wall Eastern extremity
Rameses the Great commented on Pertinax's gallery image in Everything Else
I think it was a great idea for the Romans to have. The problem I have is that the invasion force can concentrate their men in one area and bulldoze through. If you have thin stretched out lines of men, a large force is bound to go through. Kind of like the Germans in WWI they concentrated a force against the French stretched out lines, and went through unimpeded. -
Yeah, I heard he can sing well now. He does seem to be doing good for himself. Germanicus we should do be so bad that everyone will feel sorry for us and give us tons of cash...they will never know.

Yes, I know I will summarize his life. A new wardrobe: $50 A new agent: $2,500 A new single cd: $25,000 Absolutely humiliating himself in front of the world: priceless There is some things in the world money can't but for every thing else there us the 'she bang' guy.

Could Rome Have Fallen Into Ottoman Hands?
Rameses the Great replied to AEGYPTUS's topic in Postilla Historia Romanorum
Exactly, if you recall the Moroccans attacking the Sanghai dynasty in Africa the only reason they were successful for buying guns from Europe. The Ottomans could not have built guns by themselves, they had to have hired European engineers and at the siege of Constantinople their guns barely did anything. The strongest guns were in England and France. The European Union could easily expel any European nation to give them weapons, massively curtailing their conquest. Sure they had money but if they do not have adequate weaponry they do not stand a chance. Southeast Europe could easily fall because they did not have the weapons like those of Western Europe they were like the Middle East. However Western Europe is a completely different story. -
Could Rome Have Fallen Into Ottoman Hands?
Rameses the Great replied to AEGYPTUS's topic in Postilla Historia Romanorum
Around the 1400's guns were starting to develop, and that is the time when Europe went ahead of the Middle East. Remember the Ottomans were a power, but nothing compared to Western Europe. Germany and France would have done something to crush it immediately. In fact all of Europe would do something to keep out the invaders. Even though Europeans fought each other constantly they knew the importance of staying alive. If they were able to unite under one banner to form the cruscades, who knows what they could have done while beeing invaded. -
Thanks Longbow! However I don't know how this will effect my finals that week...

Remember, Greece was a spectacle in its time. It was a super power and very culturally assimilated. Athens and Sparta was where the bulk of where the Hellenizm was. Kosmo, I think the question here would be, why not Greece? This is random, and I know people come and go, but if only Gaius Octavius were here...I miss that guy.

The Frustrations About Not Being A Semiticist
Rameses the Great commented on docoflove1974's blog entry in The Language of Love
I know a little bit of the slang Arabic. It is quite easy to speak actually but reading and writing it is a whole different matter. When I first saw it it looked like scribbles. Also it is hard to follow since it is from right to left. The thing I would suggest is to become familiar with the sounds, and then try to read and write it. I mean its not like a world a way like China, which is so much different. After all we did get our numbering system from them! -
Ancient Tug Of War
Rameses the Great replied to roman wargamer's topic in Gloria Exercitus - 'Glory of the Army'
Ever since King Phyrus died, the strong cavalry and elephants was not in the Greek regime. That is why many people speculate, what if the Greeks did this. The bad thing about the Greeks is that they only train light cavalry instead of the heavier force. If the legions had a weakness it was heavy cavalry in which the Greeks lacked. The more fluent and effective Roman cavalry easily destroyed the Greek cavalry, leaving the phalanx exposed. Only Alexander and Phyrus had created heavy cavalry and had seen success. The phalanx and legion are similar in that their best fighting comes when they go forward, in a frontal attack. Of course they need to be unimpeded by harassing enemies. In my opinion if the Macedonian phalanx had decent support by cavalry they could have beaten the Romans. Also incompetent generals could also be the blame. Great job romanwargamer, I always wondered the lengths. That is probably why they were such a good defensive unit. -
