Dr. Hawass Calls For Return Of Stolen Artifact
Rameses the Great replied to tflex's topic in Hora Postilla Thermae
What's the philosophy in this here, 'we make and you take?' It's not that the French and British are not entitled to 'some' artifacts, but you can't take another nation's glory. I don't know it they should change the current approach of how to go about the treasures. However the whole system of taking another nation's goods for plunder without second thoughts is completely backwards. -

Dr. Hawass Calls For Return Of Stolen Artifact
Rameses the Great replied to tflex's topic in Hora Postilla Thermae
Silly yes, but this is going to be government sanctioned. It's not like it's just going into Islamist hands. It will be preserved. The last time I went to Egypt everything was in good condition. They don't believe in preservation methods but they keep it safe from natural things. I agree that things that have been taken from the Frecnh and British are unretreivable. Napoleon stole 5,000 peices so we can't get it all back. Besides I would not mess with Hawass, he's good... -
Dr. Hawass Calls For Return Of Stolen Artifact
Rameses the Great replied to tflex's topic in Hora Postilla Thermae
I believe he is doing a great job bringing the artifacts back. He came on the televison and said he knows he is winning because they are returning some of them. Do you know that more than half of the ancient Egyptian riches are overseas? Surely there should be some artifacts that they should keep but many must be broght back to Egypt. After all it is ours. Through years of plunder from Romans, Jew, and Europeans we can't get all of them back. However ones that have been illadvisedly taken out of Egypt should be returend. People saying that the treasures belongs to everyone is fine. You must also respect the rights of the people who made them. That why it is in the eye of the beholder. After all it's not just the Egyptians treasure that is in there, it's their history, it's their ancestors, it's their life! -
I want the best way to learn Greek. Recently I have bought a cd that encompassed Greek, but I don't know where to start or how to start. After I learned the slang term of Arabic, I thought that I would learn a language that always fascinated me. Actually I took a family geneology test that said my family immigrated from Greece to Egypt. I actually took two, one from Amazon and one from an ancestral genealogy site. Anyways much help would be appreciated. I would just like to know where to start and how to start. Since many people here seem to be so fluent and knowledgable in langauge. Efharisto!

Rameses the Great replied to Ancestor's topic in Archaeological News: The World

Greek/macedonian Influence In The Middle East
Rameses the Great replied to AEGYPTUS's topic in Historia in Universum
I did not say it was a bad question Aegyptus it is actually a marvelous question, I mean that honestly. It's just maybe that there are many parts to the question we do not know where to start. You clarified it though and I know it is a good question. I did not mean to come off as hard as I did. I think that this can spark a good argument as to whether the Greeks did more or the Macedonians. Now it is just fair to point out even though the Macedonians may be different, by racial means, the Greeks made them the nation they are. Macedonians were referred to as 'barbarians' until they were impacted by the ever so countageous Hellenizm. I believe the Greeks had a greater influence, because of the trade routes and how well Egypt and Greece knew each other. Also the Persians knew the Greeks well through war and turmoil and let them know what the west was like. The Macedonians however should be credited by uniting the two worlds. -
Battle Preliminary
Rameses the Great replied to Gaius Octavius's topic in Gloria Exercitus - 'Glory of the Army'
When it came to battle the Romans were driven by one thing, and one thing only, that is to win. I also doubt it something does not seem right. Before a battle you do not want anything messing with your pschy which I'm sure that would do more than just that. Also women were never allowed to take part in any battles, what if she had been shot by an arrow? There was one her involved in battle and that was Rome. -
Greek/macedonian Influence In The Middle East
Rameses the Great replied to AEGYPTUS's topic in Historia in Universum
I don't understand what your trying to get to. If you are looking in terms of success by the means of the nations that branched out of it, the Ptolomies would best fit that description. They created many marvelous things and Alexandria proves it. Also it held out against the Romans the longest. Greek influence and Egyptian inginuity would make this area a great spot. -

Keep Your Mouth Shut

I don't understand don't the Republicans believe in a Capitalist economy? I mean I am a Conservative myself but this is ridiculous. How can you deny the 1st Ammendment rights, that is not Democracy that is Communism. Good thing is that not even the Republicans like Bush. With a decreasing and already dismal approval rating this guy's like the plague. Could Democracy be failing us now? Then again even though Democracy is a beautiful thing, it must be put in the right person's hands. However under this Bush administration its terrible. The Romans had the right idea, they lasted for 1,000 years not a petty 100. And the land of the free?... -
Talking about my generation, man that music sure was cold. :bag:

Wouldn't the Greeks have to import the papyrus from Egypt. I don't think they had access to it in Greece.

I thought they were coming out with it today, what happened? Never mind it costs money. The Rome TotalRealism did not cost any money why the change of heart? I for one will not buy it, and am deeply sadened by this. They are just pulling my leg, tsk, tsk, ridiculous. I paid $50 for that and now I have to pay extra for a mode supported by the people who created the game. That just does not make any sense!

The Destructive Nature Of Globalism
Rameses the Great commented on tflex's blog entry in Phalangist Propoganda
Everyone is so willing to give up their old ways in search of beeing 'Americanised.' In the Middle East the more 'American' you are the better people see you. There is no longer a self pride for one's country it is all whoever is the coolest. Remember, you were not always part of America you were something before that. Having self pride for beeing American is no crime, but forgetting who you are is. Perhaps the Greeks had a point for making sure to be prideful of who they are and to never forget it. I guess maybe we are regressing more than we are advancing. -
That's ok Honorius that is a more than regular reaction to assume that the person would be biased to his own country. The Greeks, were a bit more unbiased that is why we get accurate information from them. The Egyptians for example would do anything to make the pharaoh look good, and were one sided. On the other hand the Greeks tried to base it off of historical information. Greeks were biased to their country, like every other person. The thing is they are not overly biased and do a good job of getting the true story across.

It was by Plutarch, and as we know Plutarch is very accurate in his writings. Also Herodotus was said to been an honest and trustworthy man, so if he claimed the same thing it must have happened. No, Alexander was indeed undefeated. He will remain so throught history no matter what anyone says. Or as they say here in America, 'that's all she wrote.'

Macedonian Conquest
Rameses the Great replied to sythin's topic in Gloria Exercitus - 'Glory of the Army'
Common misconception the hoplites were a specialty of Greece, not Macedonia.
