  1. Agreed, in many battles althought the Egyptians used archers and charioteers in many battles they depended on their infantry to win the battles. Against the Hittites and Assyrians they usually let their ground troops decimate the weaker infantry units. Thanks caldrail, you sure are helping a whole lot of my questions in the thread.
  2. I'm just saying I trust Caesar's word rather then a Greek 'historian' any day. If he draws upon propaganda in some way, thats ok we know that this is incorrect and give a more accurate estimation. However I just hate the idea of having to trust in Greeks for Caesar's works, this to me is weird. What I have read from the Commentaries, he seems fair and telling the truth. The only problems at times is his number of deaths in a battle to the Gauls. However his battle with Ariovistus was an amazing one and accurately depicted.
  3. I'm not saying they did not kill each other, but no Coptic Christians went on a slaughtering rampage of pagans. In Alexandria there were so many mass murders such as the Jewish story of killing all those Christians. One night they tricked the Coptic Christians that there was a sermon to attend, and in the mask of night slaughtered thousands.
  4. No, where did you get that crazy information from? Many Egyptians were converting to Christianity but were never forced. The only forced conversions that happened in Egypt were by the Romans. One of the saints is known for opposing the Romans forced conversion and beeing martyred for it. The only things Coptic Christians did was destroy any heiroglyphs and symbols thought 'blasphemic.' No Coptic Christians killed pagan priests though.
  5. Sulla was corrupt and selfish in the regard that he only set up a dictatorship to server his own purposes and lifetime. Whoever says that Sulla cared about Rome is mistaken, he could care less as long as he go what he wanted. He was so rich and powerful no one could really touch him. He exterminated all obstacles in his way so that he could set up his own reforms and governments. So in that regard I agree he was ruthless and could care less about Rome, and its future. On the contrary, not much is known from history after he retired. Most men take a break so that they may live in peace. He left Rome in 78 B.C. and then lived in Southern Italy. According to Rome by M. Rostovtzeff, "There he lived as a private man, but not for long: within a year of his retirement he died." In other words, your pushing it.
  6. Ok, thank you. I just have another question, would the Carthaginians and Hellenistic Egypt count since they're army was basically a replica of the Greek army?
  7. Whenever you work you'll always get people who work and people who just slack off and do nothing. You try to tell them to do something but they want to act stupid and idiotic so: 1. You don't ask them to do anything, and 2. So they try to act funny. Trust me, you'll be a lot better off in life then the above mentioned.
  8. Iranians who come to the west, are often very detatched and well educated people. Usually you will see that they loved the shah and only left was when the ayatollah took power. I know my cousin's friend who is Iranian and although he is a Muslim, his mother is an accountant and does not even where a hijab! Comparing Western Iranians to the radicals you see in present day Iran is a stretch. If you go to Iran and they find out your not a Muslim they may kill you! There is a law that anyone who is not Muslim there is a second class citizen. (That is why as soon as the Muslim Brotherhood takes power in Egypt the same thing will happen.) They think of others as 'cattle' and think they can do anything to us.
  9. MPC, with all due respect you seem to have an everlasting hate about Caesar. You have your opinion but always remember he was a good general and an even greater politician.
  10. To my surprise the only holiday you celebrate is April 1st.
  11. Fragile egos I suppose. I purposely say Christmas completely disregarding 'holiday,' whoever has a problem can get over it soon. Since the manura, nativitity scene, and Christmas tree should receive its proper name.
  12. Again, I am speaking on the matter of the issue. We probably have different political views, something I'm sure we don't want to get into.
  13. For so long I have heard the term Western and Eastern Warfare. My question to you is, are there any differences? I know the West obvioulsy got some indirect and direct tactics from the East, but how were they made to be 'Western' style. My second question is who invented Western warfare, and who fought in Western style? Were they the Greeks who started it, because evidence has shown they have a fairly, 'Eastern' fighting style if I'm not mistaken. Answers?
  14. I recall a courtcase dealing with private ownership. I believe it said if you import things from state to state and is not sufficiently owned by the owner, then it is at the jurisdiction of the government. A private club that is owned by someone and runs it on his own has the right to do anything he/she pleases like deciding who can register. So I think that constitutes for something.
  15. Cool! If that does not win, you must really be in a tough competition.
  16. Precisely, if you want to smoke in the confines of your home or a private bar go ahead. Bars are not reserved for private people, of course age, but any adult can go there making it public. That is not the point, the thing is you guys are making a big deal out of public smoking. No one is telling you not to smoke, just to respect other people around you. I don't think this is Fascism, if anything I think people are taking freedom for granted.
  17. I completely understand Augusta, but I don't think the government is passing that line. Public smoking should be banned. Fatty foods to an extent should be left to the consumer. This is how we are free. It is that corporation are putting so much unhealthful things in food these days, it must be contained. I agree with banning trans fat because it does so much harm in terms of health. However banning junk I think is too far fetche'd even for idiotic politicians. No government can restrict what you want, but they have to put a cap for the benefit of people. No one is telling you don't eat junk or don't smoke. In other words I see rather too many political strifes coming here, and it is getting rather cliche. Fascism? Fascism is when you stick a gun to someone's head and tell them what to do. Is this Fascim, hardly.
  18. Cato, the government banned trans fat on everything now. I think it is good because it was very bad for you and living in a cholesterol society it can only help.
  19. Since most probably saw it... 'Ever since the Gilgash reforms women are allowed to ride inside the bus with men.' 'How can you women think with such a small brain.' Woman leaves insulted.
  20. No, I am content with anything. It's all good.
  21. I just entered for the Enemies of Rome book.
  22. In my views, Sulla was a crook who wanted self-ambition. He took advantage to attack Rome when the army was on campaign or the Democrats were severely hurt. He practically exterminated the Samnites just to speed up Latinization. As dictator, he tried to press for certain measures he wanted and could care less about the future of Rome.
