    Still, think about it- During the Punic Wars the overwhelming majority of males enlisted, even after Cannae and other horrible losses. They fought for the survival of their sovereignty and their country. The West's last army under Orestes was some German Auxiliares. That's pathetic.

    Ok, I may have found an answer. Gibbon states that the Eastern Empire was "strenuously exerted to deliver the Western Empire from the Vandals." It's too bad the Western Romans lost their tenacity and failed to raise a Roman army. That would have been a decisive factor.

    I watched something on Roman Crime and it said that they never (or rarely) used dogs for pets, always for protection of property. I someone got through the door lock they would be greeted with a little suprise.

    Was there any apology of any sort sent to Parthia as it was not the intentions of Rome? I know the Romans didn't get the standards back for a long time...

    Sure! I'm in! I swear I was going to buy Nero's Killing Machine today but now I may have a chance to win it! My other book of choice would be the punic wars one, but it really doesn't matter... they're all on Rome!

    Antiochus is magical. Just a guess, but maybe they are saying, "I'll be over here while you go over there and fight!"

    I was reading various things on the fall of the west, (Gibbon) and it seemed the East really didn't do too much to prevent the collapse of the west. Was it apathy? Was the east sick of all the ursurpers? Did they not have enough rescources? Had the cultural schism grown to wide? They could have at least protected the "Kingdom of Italy" as it was called in it's final days...

    You mean your police force doesn't carry guns??? Geez, my place has a population of under 40,000 and our cops just got a new shipment of assault rifles in. 0.o

    I know they are randomly chosen by Amazon, and that's why it's so cool that his happened to be on there- out of all the possible books! The ads don't bother me a bit, sometimes they even help by giving me ideas for future purchases.

    Lately I've noticed the new addition to this site, where amazon books are advertised at the top of the page of each thread. Well, I happened to glance up and see the book of our very own Andrew Dalby!!! Congratulations!

    Awesome. I never knew it said UNRV because the favicon is so small. I like how you incorporated the United Nation's symbol since this is the United Nations of Roma Victrix.
