  1. St. Caligula of Brigantia? St. Ursus of the Stairwells? St. Nephele of the Dogs? St. Messalina of Nocera Inferiore?
  2. How dare you, Darling! I AM a Jack Russell named Kalley! You goofed! You're right on with the other two. One looks like him, and the other  , a Rat Terrier suits her just fine.
  3. Although I most certainly deserve it - and much, much more - the heights to which I am climbing are dizzying! I'd like to know what it means and what I can do. Did Ursus and Germanicus approve? They both hate me. Do I get an Exxon COB's salary? Even though he is a Censor, may (Eat your heart out T.T.), I throttle MPC now? No big loss; I hardly ever know what the blazes he is talking about. Then, there is that wizard of the bytes, , who has once again sabotaged my posts (I caught you again, you hound!). What about the two P's :notworthy: who are hell bent on poisoning me? Since Lady Farrow  has gone astray, do I get a few replacements ? Sigh!
  4. This entire statement is beyond my 'cognitive methods'.
  5. Nor the Divine Julius! Neither of which is surprising given that their intellectual influence was vanishingly close to zero. No! I won't have that! Not our MPC!
  6. MPC, would you please give an example of 'cognitive methods' with regard to motivation or any other?
  7. Re compounding periods. On a two year loan, the compunding period may be annual, semi-annual or monthly, etc. Think of a 0% bond. It is the compounding periods that are critical in determining the sum returned.
  8. , favors the most of this, particularly the part about 'playing with girls'. You will have noted that I am actually leading the way by changing the name of Brooklyn, therefor, I should be Her Royal Imperial Sovereign Majesty, Lizzie the 2's permanent and hereditary Minister of America. As is well known hither abouts and yonder abouts, I am exceptionally well qualified for the position. Basil, Earl of Brookfordshiresexingham N.B. This was in an earlier thread.
  9. ndduem kdalabcred  And, don't come back with rottweiler or chihuahua - if you know what is best for yourself. :sniper:
  10. Another question. Were the Christian populations converted or displaced by the Arabs? If displaced, where did they go? Something tells me that a different answer will apply to different areas.
  11. The point that I was trying to get at, is that the Romans trained with heavier equipment so that when it came to actual use, it would be easier for them to use the equipment. Except for very close range, I don't think that the object of throwing the pila was to aim. It was to break up a formation in general. The arc of the throw, and thus gravity, would determine the force with which the pila would hit the enemy. The greater the arc, the less dependent the force of the hit is on human strength. Human strength would determine distance.
  12. Other animals use tools. Monkeys use a stick inserted into a hole to get at grubs. Some kind of parrot cracks nuts open by slamming the nut onto a rock. Pacific coast otters take a mollusk and a rock to the surface and crack open the mollusk by slamming it onto the rock which is positioned on its chest. Just a thought. Have no idea what this adds up to in re the chimps above. But, then, a question: Why don't other chimps display this behavior?
  13. NC, who said they were yours? Basil Fawlty?
  14. Ah, now this is where I have no principles whatsoever! I always tell people that if I'd lived during WW2 and those big butch Germans and gorgeous Italians had invaded us, I'd have collaborated and fraternised the length and breadth of England! Standing up, of course?
  15. Let me throw a few questions in. Are we speaking here of the present value of 1 or its future value? Is the interest due at the end of the first period added to the loan and compounded into the next period, i.e, a $1,000 loan at 10% yields interest of $100 at the end of the first period. If not paid and thus 'compounded' into the next period, the interest at the end of that period would be $110. Is the interest discounted up front or paid at maturity or periodically. Does the loan have call provisions?
  16. Sri Lanka or Indonesia? Security in land ownership allowed landowners to obtain loans against their land as collateral. The poverty stricken countries of today do not have this security.
  17. I never 'log out'. Is there something wrong about that?
  18. In re: reenactors practicing. The Roman soldier carried a heavier kit in training than on the march. I believe that he trained with a heavier pilum than he carried to a battle. Do the reenactors do like wise? If not, then statistics drawn from them are not valid.
  19. For me, the original 'Moslem' thread was very enlightening. I would like for it to continue - without discussing the religions themselves. I believe Gibbon held that the Roman-Persian wars facilitated the spread of Islam, i.e, the Mohammedans ate away at both empires while they were occupied with each other. (That's really a question.) Although, I believe, that Egypt was in the Roman fold, the rest of North Africa was not. What made it so easy and fast for the Moslems to both conquer and convert Egypt and North Africa?
  20. How is it known that the migration (if such) did not go in the opposite direction? Someone, whom I cannot cite, advanced a theory of circum-polar migration. I believe that the migration went from Asia to Europe to North America.
  21. You CAN, but you MAY not! Did all y'all know that the hoople who invented the color alert system in the US, is color blind?
  22. Another schiester! Add this to your twaddle commandments: "One may not thrash his womens with a stick wider than his thumb."
