  1. : Nurse Mary is a German spy. Private Bohp is General Sir Antony Cecil Hogmany Melchett's driver. Lady Farrow is regret! Sorry, your candidate doesn't make the cut. Try again.
  2. Monday last, the Domina Claudia   took off for some place in the boondocks, namely, knoxberg, 10AC. The Imperial Pro-Crastinator was supposed to be left well supplied. Well, the Old Moor Hen Shredded Sporran is almost at an end. The stompings don't look as if they will last the week. Down to the last half dozen beers. I have no idea what the things left in the fridge are. This is the status quo: Bride in the boondocks.  Nurse Mary in Basra. Private Bohp on maneuvers in Wales. Lady Farrow is missing. The position of 'Lady in Servicing' is presently open. Please address your applications to: Gaius Octavius. N.B. - The Earl of Doncaster's application was forwarded to the Duke of Beaufort. The Pro-Praetor
  3. Would you please expand on this? "( as well as several other lower local magistrates )" _______________________________________________ Would you please expand on this? "...as it was concerned with public affairs etc."
  4. Went straight to 'Hard'. When it cooperated, got 'em all right.
  5. I don't think that anyone ever preferred a Twiggy or a porker. The voluptuous women painted are alluring.
  6. "...spreading rumors that they had powerful forces stationed in France,...." The Brits and the Gauls had trade relations. The Brits would have known of the Roman power, without Roman 'propaganda'.
  7. I wish I knew what the blazes you Brits are talking about! Dog's Horns? Welcome and good luck!
  8. Although it doesn't seem that there would be much flexing at the joints, could there have been a soft cover on the inside of the greaves themselves?
  9. What do you expect, Paulinus - he's all talk! Sorry about that. Maybe it is because it is a record of PM's between GPM and myself. Will try to have The Genius of the Bytes, AoS, fix it. Anyway, the last one is the most important. As for you Tattle Tale  , read my next blog and submit an application!
  10. Listen up, you lot. After issuing my first Edict, My Most August Personage has been plagued with all manner of whining excuses for not entering The Contest. Me, a Pro-Praetor, must endure this balderdash! Here is an example of the unmitigated twaddle: http://www.unrv.com/forum/index.php?act=Ms...n&MSID=8745 I shall have my agents uncover the names of those who do not enter THE CONTEST and then have my personal haruspex put a hex on them. They will, of course, be visited by members of my 'family'. In the likely event that you have not been curious enough, this is an example of the kind of magnificent prose one needs to be a winner: http://www.unrv.com/forum/index.php?automo...p;showentry=521
  11. For posterity's sake I herein record my first Edict: ENTER THE CONTEST! I will not be in it (as I would naturally win), therefor, all y'all may rest assured of its fairness. No bribing and such. This is a cunning plan to overwhelm the Judges with work. They won't have any time left over to commit their tyranny on the Forum. Get crackin!
  12. I have Pink Eye from all that drinking in Ibiza night clubs Not to mention that I have no ideea what you mean. My Lord Pertinax :notworthy: will give you prescription. N.B. - Whatever makes you think that I know what I am talking about?
  13. Life is tough. You pay taxes and then you die.
  14. Using this: http://www.unrv.com/forum/index.php?act=mo...si&img=1546 as a guide, did Roman homes (villas) have windows to the outside world?
  15. Publius, thanks for your answers and work.
  16. "I think I'll drive to work today." -- P.P. "I think I'll back up." -- L_W "I think I'll take a shower." -- Panta. :notworthy:
  17. Assume: A 'lex' or 'plebiscitum' were properly passed with respect to financial contracts wherein the minimum age of the contractors was mandated. Could an edictum or consultum effectively amend it?
  18. Midnight on the Ides of March. See the below for the OFFICIAL RULES. http://www.unrv.com/forum/index.php?showto...amp;#entry55781 Save for those who may not enter due to possible conflicts of interest, all should try to submit something. Good practice. May I suggest that all entrants have their copy read by another, if for nothing more than checking spelling, prose and grammar. Good luck! "Hay, you never know."
  19. "...with large consequences for history." B.H. above. In addition to Zama, add the battle for Constantinople. It may have determined the fate of the Middle East to this day and into the future. It was also a most gallant battle. Cannae was spectacular, but of little, if any, consequence to history save for bringing Scipio to the fore. The Roman defeat was due more to Rome's practice of having two supreme commanders on alternate days and the pig-headed, incompetent Varro, than to Hannibal's ability. The double envelopment was not invented by Hannibal.
  20. I did use the wrong word and should have used both appropriately. How did, or could, these effect laws theoretically initiated and 'passed' by the people?
  21. There is a stripe of desert from Mauritania to Mongolia which has been expanding since Roman times.
  22. If a senatorial 'Edict' was not 'law making', then what was it?
