  1. Were they trained in the law? I don't think that there were such schools. I believe that the law was a part of the education of every upper class Roman.
  2. Ramses try this: http://www.livius.org/persia.html Compliments of Publius Nonius Severus.
  3. My Lord :notworthy: and Sinnerella  , is there a saint associated with poisons?
  4. So as not to befoul the 'Beauty, etc.', thread, I put this here. Couldn't post to Tartarus. http://www.flixxy.com/adobe-photoshop-evolution.htm Hit your back button and enjoy your Sunday afternoon.
  5. Kinky! Kinky! ----------------------------------------- Go to it Sinnerella. I'm sure I'm gonna love it. Also, try to help Ursus with his wonderment.
  6. U and MPC, are the criteria you cited the ones you use/used?
  7. "Do me, please." I'm sorry God, I couldn't resist.
  8. Sinnerella, there are more than 365 saints. One could very easily fit any into your examples. Tsar Nicholas II was declared a saint by the Russian Orthodox Church recently. How does he fit?
  9. I can't say that I understood that article. I can't envision men running around with tape measures and calculators in making their choices. Too academic. In my opinion, facial features, proportion and 'soul' have much to do with choice.
  10. Didn't Augustus nominate two of his daughter's(?) children 'Caesars' and had Tiberius adopt them?
  11. "My question is.... Has anyone read why Alexander the Great of Macedonia chose to not to attack the Roman Empire, but instead drove his armies to the east?" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Did not Alexander have an urge to 'get even' with the Persians for their invading Greece? There were riches in the East, what would he have gained in the West?
  12. The basic tax levied on non-Muslim subjects consisted of two parts, the jizya or poll-tax, and kharaj or land-tax. The 5% must have been in addition to that. Good reason to switch as the Bosnians and Albanians did.
  13. I also thought that the Huns were Mongols. I have also read that there are a group of people in Switzerland who can trace their lineage to them by the blue dot at the base of their spines.
  14. And everyone could hear the speakers. Today we need 'ghetto blasters'. Progress!
  15. Far be it for the likes of me to dispute Pausanius, but the cavalry numbers seem rather high. If these numbers are true, how would a servant or slave know when his master was down in the melee?
  16. Recently: Gina Lollobrigida, Dolly Pardon, Marilyn Monroe, Kim Novak, Jane Russell, Sophia Loren, Liz Taylor, and , of course Twiggy. Our society must not be so rich. MPC is on the spot with his comparison.
  17. Pre-Christian in Western Europe. It's OK with me if you shift it elsewhere.
  18. Beware! The Site clock is some 20 odd minutes behind! Forget it. Clock's up to date - now.
  19. This might prove interesting: http://speakingoffaith.publicradio.org/ Since I am a klutz with computers, you will have to click around for the broadcast of "Pagans Ancient and Modern".
  20. You'll learn that from Donna Sophia herself.
  21. Very nice laddie. Keep up the good work. I wonder how many times that really happened.
  22. Let it be known far and wide that I, Don Tomasso, have created 'The Augusta', aka 'Tattle Tale' a full blooded Italian as was her  humble desire. Henceforth, she shall be known as 'Donna Sophia'. She is now a member of a most elite group composed of Don Giovanni :notworthy: , Don Giovanni :notworthy: , Ginevra, and of course my glorious self. Don Tomasso Count of Piedmonte d' Alief
