  1. See: http://www.ancientlibrary.com/smith-dgra/0241.html Under 'Calones'.
  2. Hydromelum. From: http://penelope.uchicago.edu/Thayer/E/Roma...GRA*/Vinum.html "Mulsum (sc. vinum) or οἰνόμελι is perfectly distinct from mulsa (sc. aqua). The latter, or mead, being made of honey and water mixed and fermented, is the μελίκρατον or ὑδρόμελι of the Greeks (Geopon. viii.28; Dioscorid. v.9; Isidor. Orig. xx.3
  3. Excellent. I have a feeling that this review will become the subject of some new threads.
  4. SFG, The Augusta's and my comments in re your error was meant to be helpful and were not disparaging. I am sure that this shan't happen again. B.H., we are not speaking French here.
  5. The Kalends of March are here. The Ides approach as inevitably as the tide the shore!
  6. Are we straying from Caesar's personality?
  7. I am a penguin or a beaver with a sheep's personality! :horse: :usaflag:
  8. Acromegalic! Eat that - if you can get it to your jowls - You :notworthy:, You :notworthy:, Brigantine
  9. From MPC above: "Antistius, a doctor who may have been Caesar's personal physician, was summoned to conduct a postmortem examination. According to his autopsy report
  10. On a tangent, Roman soldiers were 'legionaries'. Legionnaires are in the French Foreign Legion.
  11. Prognathic! You wretch! :notworthy: Gnash your teeth!
  12. Not to encroach on the 'Caesar-Personality' thread, I thought that this dreaded 'what if' thread might shed some light on members' thinking. I feel that the Republic, the Senate in particular, and the 'better people' had become so corrupted, i.e., self seeking, selfish, and money and land grubbing, that another, perhaps a less capable man, would have made an end of the Republic.
  13. It seems to me that if Caesar is to be 'diagnosed'*, it should be in conjunction with his family, friends, enemies and the problems of the time. * Not being a shrink, I'm not sure of the proper word. You know what I mean though.
  14. Both ends of the spectrum. But, then, Sophia  is a Neapolitan, and thus a Roman.
  15. Weren't they used in battlefield hospitals during WWII?
  16. I have tried a different Dogfish Head, compliments of Pantagathus :notworthy: and something called Trappiste, also compliments of His Beership :notworthy: . Both excellent, but the latter has the edge (to me). He has to tell us how it is best drunk though. It does make a difference.
  17. J. R. is a good man. N.N. come over from the Dark Side! G.O., Cos.
  18. You liked it that much! All those lovely coolies and tantalizing ______ did give it redemptive value.
  19. Were you able to download Babylon for 'free'?
  20. N.C., you speak of the unknown future; P.C. speaks of the past and the present. Men were killed as a result of war against armed people. He did not murder millions of innocents. Enslavement was of the time. Hitler may have taken Germany out of a depression. Stalin industrialized the USSR. Mao took China out of its dark age. These murdered untold millions. Only idiots write of these beings admiringly. The title 'Caesar' has proudly lasted for two millenia. I believe that even the word 'shah' is derived from 'Caesar'. MPC's view notwithstanding, it is the common belief in the West that Caesar was a Great man. "The voice of the people, is the voice of God."
