  1. Save for perhaps Cicero, the writers mentioned were not eye witnesses or privy to any conversations. They may be deducing conclusions from mere hearsay. That is not good enough.
  2. For some reason, I don't want to agree with you, but you may be correct nonetheless. First, I can't see rain run off being that great of a problem. It would only pile up refuse at the 'dam' and the water would run off onto the sidewalks and into the buildings. Second, if refuse was a problem, it would also be on the sidewalks unless people had a good aim or aimed at all.
  3. We'll have none of that in Britannia, thank you ... Yes, I know!
  4. Yes, about 70 miles from its Western end. Look on a map of England for a town on the North West coast called Barrow - In- Furness. My home, for better or worse! I can't even find Brigantia on a map, let alone Barrow, etc.
  5. Thats what I found, but the Original shows on T.V. are 1 hour long, those two put together are only 20 minutes. Perhaps no commercials or boring re-statements.
  6. The legions did have ambulances and each legionary did have training in first aid. In their training, everything was over emphasized. For example, their pack weighed about 75lbs in training, while for the real thing it weighed about 60lbs. They were trained for hardship from the very outset of their lives.
  7. If the giving of life was the essence of sacrifice, then why did the Romans give up burying two virgins alive each year? As for individuals, didn't the formula go something like this: "Iupiter, if you do this for me, I'll build a temple to you."? (No 'this'; no temple.)
  8. Now the bold and underlining buttons ain't cooperating! As far as a 'Comment' is concerned, just go ahead and stick one in. I advise you to be careful - very, very careful here! You don't want to tick off the god-Consul! Why can't I have an enemies list? :2guns: Now I am supposed to turn the pop-up thing on and off? Very.
  9. We Brits call them 'sleeping policemen'. Do you call them that too? I must say it never occurred to me that the Romans invented them. I, like others, thought those big paving-stones were purely to serve as stepping stones during heavy rain -- but I quite agree that they would also have the effect you mention. I don't remember any source hinting at chariot races in city streets ... perhaps this is why! We have a roll of asphalt over the road (in shopping centers), called speed bumps. Go over one of those babies at 30mph, and you then can put the chariot back together from scratch.
  10. Where did this scam artist get a 'Certificate of Authenticity' from? If anyone is interested, I have strands of hair from Caesar, Cato and Augustus for sale. A certificate of authenticity will be provided.
  11. What about 'borough', 'shire' and 'sex'? (No wiseacres need apply!)
  12. I was just getting the hang of the 'old' forum when it changed. Now my 'Picture' is gone. This 'Friends' thing is driving me nuts. Do I have to somehow say who my 'Friends' are? How? Do I have to put myself down as a 'Friend' of another? What is 'Comment'? My MSN spell checker doesn't work here any more, and the new one won't cooperate!
  13. Does 'IE' mean Internet Explorer?
  14. I think that there is a city in Spain called Cartagena?
  15. Correct! You're up. Yo!, y'all, I put up Brindisium just as Moonlapse started playing with the site.!
  16. Got you up, didn't it? That was the point.
  17. I have the answer to your problem! -_- Put seven leeches on the machine.
  18. Do you need a :wheelchair: ? You're almost ready for Medicare.
  19. Did you ever think that that actually makes you a patriot? Which brings up the question: What makes one a patriot?
