  1. Our ideas of elite military status are afflicted with the americanesque rambo mentality, the 'special forces', the 'mercenary' as a gun totin' hard man. That has nothing to do with the thread, and is nothing more than an insult to Yankee, British, and other lads who break their horns for their countries objects.
  2. Since Nomina Domina is a member of a 'group', isn't 'legati' OK?
  3. The last elected president just won a Nobel. A heat wave in Octember? Minisoda is ticked off!
  4. Cats! Yeechha! Get an A/C.
  5. Although it hasn't helped me one iota, the Loeb series of books might be helpful. Latin on one side, English on the other.
  6. You're going to a gunfight with clubs? Figures! Hey! They're hard! Very very hard! Good against my and
  7. You're not taking any chances, are you? Do I see three? See: http://www.unrv.com/forum/index.php?automo...si&img=1150
  8. You're going to a gunfight with clubs? Figures!
  9. Others can put it in a museum if they want. We just get on with it. You tell 'em A.D.! While we're on this subject, Cecil can you still get me the DVD's you promised me last week?? Sorry, you beer stealing Rhaetian, we're at war!
  10. Actually, that would make a great article for you to write, Augusta, with accompanying illustrations. Will you consider doing it? I need those "flash cards" too! -- Nephele Go to it Tattletale. Are you going to include wigs?
  11. Rolled eyes from me too, I'm afraid. We are now descending into the madness of the 'Rome' producers. Well, his mother was the lover of Caesar after all and according to Plutarch Caesar thought that Brutus was his son. So, why didn't C. 'groom' B. rather than A. to be his heir? Would have missed the Ides festivities.

  13. YOU'RE LOCKED UP, TOO! Hahahaha! Flavia Gemina mentions those little winged phalluses in one of her books (The Colossus of Rhodes)! The children characters are given these to wear as protective amulets. Not only is this a highly amusing scene in the book for young readers, but they're bound to remember the word apotropaic ("a Greek word...it means something that turns bad luck away from you") which Flavia includes in the passage. I love books for kids that combine "snicker humor" with education. It's the best way to learn! -- Nephele No wonder why childrens are going to pot in a handbag! The likes of Flavia and you are totally responsible!
  14. Yeah, yeah, and Brutus also was Caesar's son!
  15. We must stand against this beer stealing tyranny. If the United Nations of Roma Victor and this Message Board last for a thousand years, men will still say, "This was our finest hour." Onward American soldiers!
  16. Think! Think? Indeed!, my good fellow. Know!, Know! You'll need gods and devils. The Yanks are coming!, The Yanks are coming!
  17. Keep a sharp eye out for Pertinax. He's from Rhaetia!
