  1. In addition to Latin, Doc's site has lots of great stuff on other languages. http://www.utexas.edu/cola/centers/lrc/eieol/latol-0-X.html
  2. I hope that you are going to tell us what the Roman dish was. I am sure that it will be of extra special interest to My Lord Pertinax. My 'extra special' was cotenelle. Rolled up pig skin with pine nuts, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and grated parmesan cheese within the roll; browned and cooked in the tomato sauce. Extra delicious!
  3. Hun was applied to German soldiers in WWI, in a derogatory fashion. I believe that it still is used as an aspersion in re Germans.
  4. Did the number twelve have some special significance to Romans? Twelve Winds; Twelve Tables; Math to the base Twelve.
  5. If you can figure this one out: http://www.yleradio1.fi/nuntii/
  6. Maybe this will help: http://www.math.ohio-state.edu/~econrad/lang/latin.html
  7. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008 Gl
  8. I wonder when the birth of Christ was first celebrated and on which date(s)?
  9. I forgot Christmas Eve. Spaghetti Ail e Olio (garlic & oil), baked mussels, shrimp, and baked baccala (cod fish).
  10. I thought that it would be a nice idea for each of us to greet each other in our different languages, and to tell each other what particular goodies we will consume. As Pater Arcanae, I'll start: Happy Chanukah (belated); Happy (?) Eid; And a Merry Christmas and Happy & Healthy New Year to all y'all. Now, in broken Neapolitan: Buon Natale e Buon Capo d' Anno a Tutti. My Bride has put together stollen, (a German cake), and will make rollaten, (German beef roll ups), lasagne, and struffola, (little flaky dough balls smothered in honey and topped with colored sprinkles). There had better be much more, else the poem 'My Last Duchess' will take effect. Eat well; drink well, and don't forget that both days are Holy Days of Obligation!
  11. I just had the pleasure of re-visiting Northern Neil's, and Gaius Paulinus Maximus' albums. And, for the first time Klingan's. They are simply magnificent! This is not to beggar other albums. I expect to glory in them with a couple of glasses of cheap vino. NN's 'Tiny Temple # 2' has particular meaning for me in more ways than one. http://www.unrv.com/forum/index.php?automo...si&img=1718 How does he do that stuff? I can't tweeze the hair, that is driving me nuts, off of my nose! It was my pleasure to correct my friend MPC's mis-translation @ http://www.unrv.com/forum/index.php?automo...si&img=1659 He speaks Eyetalian like a Turkish goat. If it pleases MPC, he may visit the Ara Cato in Rome's 'Piazza di Poppolo Stragnieri e Empatzziata'. When you look at the Klingon's album, you will note that he is the only guy in a class of knockout Swedish babes! http://www.unrv.com/forum/index.php?automo...si&img=1896 That's him with his coolie looking at you. and http://www.unrv.com/forum/index.php?automo...si&img=1915 Both of those babes are driving me to utter distraction! Not to be too protracious to anyone, but sometimes smiles do a better job than words! So that a 'certain party', (Not MPC), doesn't get his bowels in an uproar and his knickers in a twist: Now that Italy is getting its ancient stolen treasure back via the courts, do you think that the Ara Pacis panels will be returned? Is the case in the courts now? Just you wait until we get Faustus' pics! Io Baccus! That Vino Pisano hits the spot!
  12. Cool! Seems that the Romans painted history, nature, and religion on their walls.
  13. Hah! Nanny Government has taken over your brain cell! "It's the water, ______!". Just ask MPC. He is not a car salesman, he is an Alien looking to farm out your bod. Maxie lives!; just waiting for you to be transmogrified. Santas? The Labour Party, you say! They are Martians snatching up little childrens to be re-programed as Liberals on Mars. Haven't you seen any Black Helicopters? Beware!, they are out to get you!
  14. La-La Land is almost as good as Moscow, idaho. Electricity! Something novel for you folks. Hay!, Doll, hope your interview went very well. Merry Christmas.
  15. First of all, no one, not even cows, like it in penciltucky. How do you know that they weren't bulls or steers? Did you investigate? Second, where have you been all your life - on Venus? Third, don't you beings have maps? Fourth, if you were of age, I would send you an appropriate joke.
  16. Don't 'pass', it would be most interesting, (to me at least), even if it isn't 100.
  17. My word!!! The proper spelling - in im polite society - is 'phuched'. Who is this genius? Could it possibly be the G-Man?
  18. Yes, it did raise a smile - at your pending recentness! What do you prefer, trial by water or fire - that is before proper 'examination'? Have a nice day - while you still can. Benedictus vos (or something like that).
  19. Hopefully not out of context. What does "... his person should be devoted to Jupiter,..." mean?
  20. With regard to the Empire as a whole, and at its greatest extent, one account gives the population at ~ 200 million.
