  1. F., is yours a 'solo' work, or a collaboration with others? Will consider your offer. And, of course, will KIM.
  2. #1 - you studying away. #2 - my 'shame' for having missed you. #3 - my complimentary close.
  3. C., I was not trying to 'prove' anything. I obviously have not made myself clear. But, then it should be obvious from all my posting, that I am an idiot. What I have drawn from you, is that once a battle plan, for all legions, in all eras, was formulated, that that was that, and the 'commander' might just as well have gone to a movie. I see that the Romans only went after an area, only if there was a city involved. Not that it's worth anything, but that is fine by me. Gaius, now exits - stage wrong.
  4. Wrong? Thought that I was agreeing with you. Anyway, what in particular, did I say that was 'wrong'? Just underline the item.
  5. You sound (to me) as if you feel that there is some shame attached to being unemployed. There ain't none! I get the impression that you have served your nation in its armed forces. There ain't no shame in picking up an unemployment check - even if you didn't serve - you and your family have paid for it. If you feel that you are a leech on this account, then observe your politicos who do it in a grand manner. Your age may be kicking in. One of your former supervisors, justly or unjustly, may have it 'in' for you.
  6. Lots of good info. Still doesn't answer my hypothetical.
  7. Bingo!, C., and as I am sure that you are well aware, one must consider the condition of 'sheen, road, and person behind the wheel. Yet, that only accounts for the 'speeder' and not the idiot (me) ahead, alongside or behind. In NYC, we still have roads that were built for no more than 15-20 MPH. Race car drivers are driving under ideal known conditions with well tuned 'sheens and competitors. I'd bet that they are never pulled over - too ascared of the competition, which might have a pistola handy. I used to teach 'driving'. I'd always tell the student that I could show him how to pass a driving test in a couple of hours, but that it would take him years to learn how to drive. (P.S., I like your blog. Chance for an education and to have a little fun. Keep scribbling!)
  8. Just in case any of you are stuck in a 'credit crunch', this may be helpful - particularly the end of the program. http://www.myamerica2008.org/
  9. Let me help you, DoLl. If any of 'the boys' see NY "SPQR" on the King's Highway, whilst fooling around in their Used Yugos, they had better steer clear. BTW, C, what I enjoy seeing is someone tooling down the road in his speed 'sheen. Usually has a trooper on his tail; or is later seen in a ditch, on his roof, with the wheels spinning, and an ambulance coming. Most idiots only know how to step on the pedal. Things such as brakes, steering, tires, and suspensions never cross their brain cell.
  10. Nobody loves me? OK, I'll throw in 1,000 Green Stamps!
  11. When it gets to AUTOMOBILES, eat your heart out! http://oldfortyfives.com/TakeMeBackToTheFifties.htm
  12. It may have something to do with the Holy Family. I really can't jog my memory.
  13. Would a mosaic of Orpheus be in a Christian catacomb?
  14. Though actually , I misbegot something: http://www.unrv.com/forum/index.php?autoco...si&img=1238
  15. I finally found his site - again. It might be fun for some of you - if it's still works: http://www.geocities.com/Paris/Salon/2385/varus.html
  16. Congrats to Faustus, Kosmo and GPM (Even if his isn't recent.). Well deserved lads!
  17. Would you hold the same for Cicero? If I recall, he couldn't decide which side to stay with, and that is what really led to his end. Didn't Augustus actually admire him?
  18. MPC, think of a modern event, WWI. It is said that once the wheels of war were in motion, they were impossible to stop. Ditto with Caesar? As far as LAW or CONSTITUTIONS are concerned, the First Triumvirate wasn't stopped. Nor were the supremes concerned about appointing a U.S. president.
  19. Rome, as a territorial power, surely fell at some point. Yet, it has yet to Fall, thanks in part due to their conquerors, and the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Churches. It's culture is still alive and doing quite nicely. Lest I misbeget, Latin is not the only ancient language the unworthy R.C.C. has preserved.
  20. Help me. If Caesar had so much support from the oligarchy, why didn't the Senate let him stand for consul while he was in his province? Please don't cite The Law. It could have been very easily taken care of.
