Question On The Term "onager"
Gaius Octavius replied to Taurus33's topic in Gloria Exercitus - 'Glory of the Army'
I'd always thought that a 'scorpio' was a sort of arrow propeller (bellybuster), while an 'onager' was a small catspult.? -
You are an American and know what I meant by 'split up'. Now I have to take a pill! Are you really saying that that is how the common soldier became so rich? Really? Dixi

Rue (Ruta graveolens) The Herb of Grace

MPC: Your rheoric does your ancestor credit. As you well know, I was speaking in general and over a long period and not over that little fiasco you go on about. It happened two thousand years ago and you are still micturated about a certain party b_ff_ng your ancestor's sister! It was common practice.

Take a pill; lie down; take a long nap. In the meanwhile I will solicit the members hereon to garner some gold to get some Greek burglars to get the coin back. It will be put in a museum for you to worship at. Do you have a museum in ohighyo?

Kiddo: When you are looking for a job, hit the whole world. First look for the kind you want and that will help you. If that fails, then settle. Never call back, because then they know that you are hard up and will take advantage of you. If they lost your application, then they wanted to and were stringing you along from the outset. Good luck.

F.C. & M.P.C.: I am not trying to contradict you by this but, the best of the lands that were conquered were split up amongst the elites. The legionaries got the bottom lands. The result in any case led to the further enrichment of the aristocracy, be it in Europe, Asia or Africa.

This is on a topic we were discussing, but I can't find it. With the compliments of Sander van Dorst take a peek: Medicinaantiqua

Politicians of every stripe have and will always put their own pockets first. Rome didn't conquer for Glory; it conquered for gold.

Gee, I wonder how much was spent plastering the Res Gestae all over the Mediterranean. Was that late-career move a case of putting the welfare of the nation first or a case of self-aggrandizement? In the Res Gestae, he even has the gall to spin his propaganda architecture as "finding Rome a city of brick, but leaving it one of marble". What chutzpah! My post must have been a little too deep for you. Sorry! Nonetheless, your bit of venom didn't advance the questioner's pursuit any. Dixi

Germanicus, Moonlapse, Viggen, P.P.: Send this to Hades. I'm getting on my own nerves and it goes nowhere.

Ramses the Great: I know what sodomy is, but would you please tell me what gomorrahry is? My learned friend, since homosexuality is of so great a concern to you, what shall be done with Pres chinney's daughter? Whatever shall be done? Rev. Ramses, when was the last time you gave so much as a kind thought to some Viet -Nam veteran as he lay on a sidewalk? As noted earlier, the U.S., by the supreme law of the land, is not a religious state. Don't you get that? By the way, whose religion should be used? Mine? Nah, let's use one those rackets run by the Society of Holy Immaculate Telereverendos. S.H.I.T. for short. Something tells me that if the state of affairs that existed at the founding existed now, you wouldn't be allowed to vote - ever. The good folk who go to the third world to help people are those wild eyed Liberals you decry. It's the republik partie's pukey preppy proctocrats who make the kind of lettuce, going to Iraq for no reason, that 90% of Americans only dream of. Yes, yes, we all know that all welfare checks go to firewater. Helps my ADM, so I'm happy. Now, like every god fearing, flag waving, lapel junk wearer, you don't mind corporate welfare or giving taxpayer money to those needy folk for not farming. Nor do I, for the matter. My Halliburton, Exxon and power company stocks are doing just excellently. By the way, I have arranged matters so that I don't pay any taxes. As a matter of fact, I get a check back from the state. Makes me a happy sailor. Buy the way, did you ever in your life hear of something called the 'National Debt'? Your gang of burglars have run it up to $12 trillion and counting, or some $300,000 plus per household. Ha! And you owe some of that to me! Not to worry, I really do pay a 'tax' at the candy store. It's called inflation. (Watch out! There is an ambush here.) I certainly feel badly for your family, but the Canadian system of health care at least provides for medical attention for all. In your wildest fancies, do you think that Uncle Sam would let you off the hook for so much as a mill? Uncle will go after some unwary citizen for a nickel, but would get spanked if he went after Halliburton or GM. Don't forget to buy a HumVee, as my GM bonds are taking gas. What is it about the dunder heads who don't object to paying a tax to an inefficent HMO that tells them when, where and if the alleged insured can get medical attention? 2% overhead at Medicare; 18% (on average) at HMO's. Not bad. Sends their capos off to Florida for vacations. Add to that, that a quack's prescription now is questioned by the HMO's. Adds hours and staff to the quacks expenses and thus to yours. I know that you were out there pounding the pavement when you heard that the pill peddlers were going to get $4 billion for their non-existent efforts with the Medicare Part D fraud and the maybe insurance companys $1 1/2 billion for same. Seems that we pay twice as much for medical care and get half as much care in return than the Japanese do. Who won the war? As for homosexuals parading, that is what liberty and the Bill of Rights is all about. Who is hurt? Why do you fear them so? It's none of your business. But, let us not forget the seditious ACLU that you despise so sanguinely. Aren't they the traitors who defend the right of neo-nazis to spew their bile on the streets? And let us not forget flush rimflour's privacy when popping pills. As for abortion, you are creditable but contradictory. You, certainly, won't be willing to pay the truck. As my Ancient Father once told me: "Stick your head in your own plate". If I haven't managed to supply enough umbrage to any, then I apologize. See all y'all at the submarine races.

Vicious? Obviously you haven't read your own very civil comment. Ramses: Where do you come off taking on the mantle of morals and patriotism for your own clique of left over Dixiecrats who don't believe in Liberty for all?

If Augustus' object was to expand the frontiers of the Empire, the Varrian Disaster put an end to that. He unbdoubtedly wanted peace in the provinces to strenghten his position in Rome. But to conclude that his sole object was self aggrandizement is, in my opinion an error. If this were the case at first, the welfare of the nation soon became his primary object.

De asini vmbra disceptare
Gaius Octavius replied to Q Valerius Scerio's topic in Hora Postilla Thermae
I am not certain that Lord Palmeston would approve of your correction. Save for 'if', it is not in the best traditions of the language to start a sentence with a conjunction. In any case, a comma would be called for after 'But'. It is unproven that you can 'speak correct English'. Perhaps, you can write in proper English. A dash would be in order between your 'far' and 'is' above; or, a colon after your 'know' would solve the problem. For the nonce, I shall leave the problem of 'hath' and 'have' to My Lord Melchett. Beware of My Lord Pantagathus! -
With the price of oil up there in the stratosphere, we should be able (with the assistance of chinney's alleged 'intelligence') to pressureize the Nu Yok and the province of pennsyltucky's oil fields and solve all of our problems. Probably cheaper than ANWAR. Anyway, most of the Alaska oil goes to Japan. For the elucidation of our wrong wing, diatribeist, dis-educated, super patriots and moralists: By the supreme law of the land, the U.S. is NOT a Christian state!. Please pass on to all :wacko:s. -_-

John Myrtha is a good politician!!! Wow you really are like those mother loving Liberals. You can't take anything seriously and don't see the blatant obvious issue here. Then again your logo is a jack***. By the way not only rich people are Republicans. I'm not rich and neither are most of my friends who are Republican. Your stereotyping is nonsense. My philosophy is based on morals and protection, something the Republicans have and something the Democrats lack. Now, now! Language, language! Let us agree to emulate our British upper class cousins with the use of mockery and satire in civil tones. Beware of Germanicus!

It's a lonely world!

Jumping Jehosaphat! That makes everything clear! You need a cranial defeculator :bag: .

Dear tflex: With all that vaunted 'intelligence' , where is Osama ? He's on Atlantic Ave. in Brooklyn . Come and get him :2guns:. You are not going to let Putin show up the bushia are you ? They blew their boy to kingdom come . Speaking of 'intelligence' check rummy out. This thread has gone to the Arena. :bag:

Where are the WMD's? (I mean aside from their imaginations.) Take a pill; take a nap; write a novel.

tflex, tflex, my good man: If brains were dynamite, you s couldn't blow your ears off. 1. Dear tflex, if only those left wing traitors read the Globe, how do you know what you are talking about? 2. Who, dear fellow, has had the brass (on this thread) to elevate von busche to the level of my Glorious Imperial Ancestor of Blessed Memory, the Devine Augustus - save for some cretinated :wacko:s? 3. Intelligence! If one added all the I.Q.'s of this administration together it would result in a negative number. How do you know that the clique prevented anything? Is it something you just rip out of the nether regions?

Only that one measley little word! I wouldn't even take offence. And he bust a bowel! I'll get a copy of my Lexicon for Telemarketers off to him. -_-

How was the shield gripped? It seems that they were nothing more than a bunch of marauders. (Like everyone else, I guess.)

That was deep. Very deep, indeed. I hope that you are not playing with your marbles now.
