I can't see what's in front of my eyes! The Forum is set up. ACADEMIA But still wait as per my prior post. -

Gaius Octavius replied to Primus Pilus's topic in Imperium Romanorum
You don't necessarily have to post. Once the topic is accepted, and a Tyrant(?) is named, then we all have at it with our contributions. Wait a bit until the 'citation' business is clarified and the Forum is set up. (It may already be up, but I don't know.) -

This is the first idea. Good work L_W. Gaius seconds it! Any other seconds? -

You can only dispute sources with other sources (op. cit., PP iv). Well you said my intention. There's a very good possibility of one source that will challenge(disclaim) another source. So who will you believe is right? As in other situations of this kind, both views would be included by the editor. It is not taking the place of the arena or any other forum. I hope so to God that he does not turn the flaws of Academia into an Arena. But the question of editor, will we have enough for each topic because I sure know people would just love to voice out and support out their understanding vigorously The Tyrant, moderator or whatever she is called will, after the topic is set, take part in the composition, if she chooses, on the same terms as all others. Someone has to have the last say in the matter. It must be assumed that the chairman is an honest, knowledgeable person. -

New Discussion Forum Experiment
Gaius Octavius replied to Primus Pilus's topic in Imperium Romanorum
F.C., Let me be presumptuous and try: I suggest the topic 'Caesar' but I indicate that I am not qualified. M.P. Cato volunteers to be Tyrant (or whatever). If he has a bias, it will not come into play, as he is too intelligent to let it come into play and he knows that this is going into the UNRV data base, if successful. Someone - anyone posts: Caesar was born in the Subura (citation) Accepted. Next poster: His parents were Greek (Joes book) - Out- Not accepted by any authority. Another poster: His parents were Romans. (citation) -In Another poster: He won the battles of Alesia and Zama. (Mike's book or error) - Edited - Zama goes out Another: He was a meathead. No citation and gutter talk. Out Next: Poster #2 you're a moron. - Personal affront - Out, adds nothing to the composition. Next: One of Ceasars murdermen wa s Britas. In- Edited to- One of Caesar's assassins was Brutus. Result to UNRV: Caesar was born in the Subura. His parents were Romans. He won the battle of Alesia. One of his assassins was Brutus. The Caesar was a meathead post could go to the arena for fun and sarcasm. Think of it in terms of a book being written by a committee with a chairman. I hope that I am correct. If not P.P. will make it right. -
phil25: What was the point of your pen-ultimate sentence? Did it make you feel good? Would you like it if I said that you are a personage with a paper dumper? OK, I am wrong, case closed for me.

The Most Beautiful City On Earth In 1400!
Gaius Octavius replied to Zeke's topic in Historia in Universum
I have been taken by the best in Europe. And but good! The one thing about the Italian 'marioule' - BLOODY THIEVES - is that when you catch them with their knickers at their knees, they laugh and call it a game. Now, if you can speak the language of their COUNTRY (province) you are a pisan. And you ain't a :sp_ike: :smartass:, you are in like Slim. GPM: Wouldn't have done you any good. You'd still have been sodomized and felt satisfied. -
New Discussion Forum Experiment

phil25: The idea behind this experiment is to increase the resources of UNRV. You may have noted in the past that UNRV is often cited as a source by other sites. The Rules only apply to this particular sub-forum. The other fora remain as they are. You may continue to have your fun and I will continue to be my sarcastic self. If the resources of UNRV are increased, all the discussions may benefit. I hope that this allays your fears. Spurius: Nothing will be thrown out for grammatical errors or prose. An editor(s) will handle such matters. A person's grammar, spelling or prose will not enter into the picture. One would not want to loose the contributions of those whose native language is not English or whose fingers mis-type. Nit-picking will not be an object. Nor is pretension an object. The expansion of UNRV's resources is the sole object. Contribute; suggest a topic; be a tyrant! -
FETTUCCINE WITH WHITE TRUFFLES 2 tablespoons butter 1 tablespoon minced shallot 1 cup whipping cream 1 white truffle 2 ounces Italian fontina cheese Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste 1 pound fettuccine, preferably fresh, cooked in lightly salted water 1. Boil water for pasta. The sauce will take about 5 minutes to make, so time pasta accordingly. 2. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add shallot and cook until soft and translucent. Pour in cream, turn heat to high, and reduce cream by half. 3. While sauce is reducing, use a vegetable peeler or truffle slicer to shave off enough tiny slices of truffle to make about 1 tablespoon. 4. When cream begins to thicken, add cheese and stir until it is melted. Season sauce to taste, turn down heat, and keep it at a simmer until pasta is ready. 5. Drain pasta thoroughly. Add truffle shavings to sauce, then immediately toss pasta in sauce. Serve immediately on warm plates with a little freshly ground pepper. Serves 3 or 4 as a main dish, 6 as a first course. Plagarized from: Cooking A to Z; California Culinary Academy; Jane Horn, Editor.

It is my understanding that if one trespasses on a trufflers turf, he is bound to go home a little heavier with a quantity of buck shot in his rear.

New Discussion Forum Experiment
Gaius Octavius replied to Primus Pilus's topic in Imperium Romanorum
As I understand it, the Rules would only apply to this particular sub-forum and not to the other already established forums. The Tyrants would be volunteers. School having been an eon ago for me, perhaps the requirements for citations could be included in the originating statement for reference. It's nice that there are so many favorable comments, BUT LET"S GET CRACKING WITH THE 'SUBJECTS', ROMANS! GO UNRV! -

Are the truffles from Italy white? Mushrooms fried in extra virgin olive oil are always a treat even ex the truffle oil.

Gaius Octavius replied to phil25's topic in Arena
A slander! Gaius 'sincere'? Never! Yet, does Gaius detect a note of that old bit: "I can't respond to the interlocutor, thus I will announce, from my Ivory Tower, to the world, that he is wrong and have done with it."? -
To say that ill-logic is a species of logic implies that existence is a category, but this implication fails for a number of reasons (Kant pointed out several). Anyway, it's just weird to say that non-Gaius is a kind of Gaius; it makes me want to whack the speaker over the head with a non-fish. Ill-logic = sick logic? Oh, let us say, something like bad or poor or 'fuzzy' logic. (I am sorely tempted; but I won't.) Rather than illlogic. Always loved Kant. Never understood a word. Fun reading. If Cato wishes to whack the non-Gaius on the Headquarters with a non-fish, have at it. The non-Gaius will then stick a non-fish up his jammies!

M.P.C.: We are in agreement! The cookie jar raiders all are innocent as they have not all been caught. It is a well known fact that all congressmen are (mostly) as pure as the driven snow, especially when it comes to ear marks. That Indian money bit was a mere peccadillo. Personally, I am not in agreement with the likes of that great Un- American patriot, Mark Twain, who slanderously held that the greatest ongoing criminal conspiracy in America, is the U.S. Congress. The lout! But I do have a question. Why would any of the oil companies want to go through the expense of building a refinery when they can make the same net profit without building one? Summertime and the driving is costlier. Wintertime and the heating is costlier. All the time. The fact that I could gas up my chariot for $25 a couple of years ago and it now costs me $80 is a matter of 4% or 5% inflation. The oil depletion allowances should not be considered as a gift from our alleged representatives. As you might have put it, which 'idiotic controls'? Do the deadly sisters pay any attention to them anyway or to the IRS for that matter? We all know that all corporations operate for the benefit of their shareholders. The recent exposes by the likes of the communist Wall Street Journal to the contrary not withstanding. I am positive that these charges were all falsehoods. That little insignificant bit about the $400,000,000 bonus voted by his board to the CEO of Exxon was just another Liberal lie. Came out of my dividends. Not a concern. And, of course, I simply adore their proxies. And once again, we are in agreement. Private oil companies do not support corrupt governments, such as Nigeria. They most certainly never, but never, supported the likes of King Idris. Or have anything to do with the downfall of Mosagdegh. Norway is the perfect example where the polloi are suffering under a corrupt, undemocratic, undiversified regime. Much like the state of Alaska. -

Gee! Kosmo, Are you saying that your 'democratic' government is corrupt? What am I to think of your prior posts? Which would the penultimate state be? (Now you're in the muck ) -
Very silly but: Had the Spanish Armada not been defeated, Protestantism would not have succeeded. The entire western world would be completely different. The colonial world would have been split up between Spain and Portugal. The Battle of Britain was a waste of German resources and only managed to tick off the Brits and Americans. However, had Britain been occupied, the U.S. (and the U.S.S.R.), so long as it had a toe hold in Africa, would have defeated Germany. (Rommel warned the Germans of this.) The alleged 'soft under belly' of Europe would have been attacked as Churchill held. Germany, Italy, Japan and their allies combined, could not match the economic resources of the U.S., U.S.S.R. and the Americas in any way.

That is what our Supreme Court and Congress are allowing it to become. The U.S. Constitution does not prescribe this. -
