Ooooooo Moon...you're evil lol GPM...well, today was a bit different. Because my brother was over earlier, and she got quite a bit of attention from what I hear, Bella was on the bed (which is near the door), waiting for me. She mewed at me through the door (there's a glass window...which I really must get covered), and was very good about staying on the bed while I came in. I'm trying to train her that she can't go near the screen; the front screen door doesn't close tight, and if she wanted to, she could go out...and that would be highly unhappy. But, still...I got more love that I have in a while! She's very happy so far...just a couple of jitters when I got under the bed and pulled out the last boxes of books (which are now all displayed!!!). Yikes, I really can't buy anymore books without selling some first...I'm pretty much out of book space!

Hmmm...dunno about balloons...haven't tried it with her. Why, do they 'cure' the fear of ceiling fans?

Well, it's been over 48 hours...and she's done well. I brought her over at 7:30ish on Saturday night; by that time I had taken care of most all of the boxes. I had inadvertently created a 'hallway' under my bed (I've got quite a few boxes under there), and so it gives her a hiding place with a 'lookout' to the rest of the apartment. She spent much of Saturday night under there until I turned the lights off; at that point, she took a quick tour of the apartment (I had earlier shown her where her litter box was and her food/water bowl), and came up on the bed to sleep with me. Yesterday she had periods where she was under the bed and on top of it...some surveying. Last night for dinner I had a tuna salad, and suddenly someone was around! She was definitely more playful, and spent much of the evening on my bed, either sleeping or rolling around like normal ("Rub my belly! Aren't I cute?" mode). This morning, she followed me around the apartment, like normal. Today my brother's coming by to mount a small bookcase, and the landlord's coming by in the evening to finish off some work; we'll see how she does. But so far, so good! The only thing that she really doesn't like is the ceiling fan; typical, really, of cats. But she'll get used to it.

This is going to sound funny coming from a historical Romance linguist...but my Latin is very poor. I know the grammar pretty well, and if given something to read, I probably could (eventually) piece it together. I did take a year of it in college (requirement), but in all honesty, I cannot say that I can read Latin...I can say that about French, for example, but that's about it. I know how things changed from Latin into early (Medieval) Romance, particularly Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese, but it would take me quite a bit of time and effort to read a paragraph in Latin. Terrible, innit!?

So I'm finally able to move out on my own again, and am now 'broadcasting' from my new apartment! It's a small studio in downtown/Japantown San Jose, in an old Victorian. No, Don Tomato, it doesn't have A/C...it has a gas heater. That's it. But this place is almost done. Most all of the boxes are unpacked; the rest will be done once my brother puts up a bookcase for me. Some stuff remains in his garage; other will be given to Goodwill/Salvation Army. But most everything I have fits in here! With room to spare! But, wow...I've spent close to $800 just on storage, food, kitchen items...So much stuff that I needed to get, that I sold off 2 1/2 years ago when I moved back home. But, hey, it's all good...it's money well spent, and only spent once. I'm starting to feel like an adult again...on my own! Working! Yay! (now a date and/or social life would be nice...)

Congrats, Nephele...you're the right gal for the position!

Ditto for me. I speak my mind...and if one cannot read my obvious body language, then one should be schooled properly. Also, sarcasm does play a very large role in my existence; in theory everyone should be schooled in that, too. -
Agreed. Well stated. There is so much borrowing culturally (linguistic borrowing is mostly at the lexical base, from what I can tell), that sometimes it's hard to did what, and where they got the idea from.

Nah...just has to be smacked upside the head, perhaps.

So from Thursday to Tuesday I was without much computer use; I had left my AC adapter on one campus, and wasn't able to get back there until Tuesday. So I did one go-round online on Friday morning, just so I could pay bills, set things up for the month, etc., and then shut off my computer; I had something like 18 minutes of battery use, so I had nothing. I did check email twice on my brother's computer, but it was only the 'necessary' accounts (i.e. personal accounts) which get heavy traffic. No internet, no games, no nothing. Oh, and TV wasn't all that great, so I had but minor distractions. How did I cope? During the day on Saturday and Sunday I was very busy with the new apartment, so once I got home, I was bushed and had no will to do much of anything, save for lay on my bed and turn on the TV. Friday night was much the same, too, as Fridays tend to wear me out. I caught up on some reading this weekend, and did a ton of grading. I outlined 2 exams (which I'll finish today), and a couple of other assignments. But, seriously, the only internet I had was on campus...and it felt...I don't know. On the one hand, it was great...I actually started reading another book (about the Spanish Civil War, which I'll talk about in my blog once I'm done), I played with my cat (Bella was very happy about this)...I sat out on my brother's deck and enjoyed the evening. Overall, I had a ton to do, and no distraction to keep me from them. Of course, as tired as I was, there was another distraction...my blankie and my pillow!

Sorry...mind wandering...that sort of thing...carry on -
Interestingly, they're saying here that surgery may not be involved. However, Thursday the assessment will be made. This week we play the "Bal-tee-more Birdies" (Myron Cope rules; Steeler-land was blessed), and then have a bye...so we might be ok. Well, if ok equal sub-.500 again.

Seriously...he was doing better last year under Norv Turner's tutelage; Hostetter is killing him. I'd say "at least we have Trent Dilfer to back us up," but who knows how long he'll last on his legs, instead of being on his back. And the damn Raiders won, too...man, this sucks.

Ok... --Anyone who can't do a proper side tackle needs to get off the pitch. That being said, you won't see me playing footie. --Winking does turn many of us female types into putty...because you actually noticed! (Or, it seems like you did...) --Reading material in the bathroom...it's also an excuse to hide in there for a bit, and have a few moments of peace and quiet. --#7...oerrr...I'm not gonna comment, other than sometimes girth is good. --Opening jars is all in the wrist...I do it all the time for my mom. If it fails, bang the side of the lid up in a downward motion against the counter...that'll pop the seal. Other than that...nice chucklage from me! -
Drink a grappa to help the cell! It's that stuff that killed the others. Thanks for your kind suggestion. Did not...drinking too much of it killed 'em off. Just don't drink the whole bottle at one sitting, and you'll be fine!

Gawd this is gonna make some of you feel old...but, um, as my handle implies...1974 was a banner year for me. Well, to be honest, I was only around for 16.5 hours of 1974...

Nope...I was without the services of a computer...because some dumb blonde broad (namely, me) left her damn AC Adapter on campus Thursday...and it's not been turned into lost and found. A new one will arrive on Tuesday, supposedly. In the mean time, I'm getting a lot of work done....

My Niners...my lowly Niners...We knew that the 2-0 start was a fluke, given the fact that the 2 wins were by the skin of the skin of their teeth. Now we're seeing the Niners for what they are...yucky. But, hey, we can be better than the Same Ol' Sorry A$$ Rams

Sorry to get in on this late--long story--but happy (belated) birthday, G-Man!

I just got the BlackAdder (the first) on DVD through Netflix yesterday, and started watching it again...I forgot how almost imbecilic Rowan Atkinson played him at first! I still like 2 and 3 best, but oh how I miss it at all!

I'm going to place this in here, but, dear Moderators, feel free to place it elsewhere. I just got an email from Blackwells that they're going to offer free shipping on all orders placed until midnight GMT 30 September...so if you've been waiting to purchase something on there, go for it!
