Pagan commentators tended to view Christianity as an intellectually bereft, emotionally hysterical, and heretical offshoot of Judaism. If Pagans were aware of such writings they most likely would have dismissed it in such a light - the babble of a weird superstition that had already shown itself not compatible with mainstream Greco-Roman culture.
I haven't had much luck with Roman computer games. Some of it is along the lines you describe - they just take a basic genre, slap a few togas on it, and call it a Roman game.
I've lived in the country my whole life. It's actually a very pleasant place to live ... if you can survive without a good paying job and high culture.

I love the Romulans. A sci-face race based on the Ancient Romans - a great concept if there ever was one.
He does however have a habit of breathing into the microphone. And I thought I also heard a phone or fax ring during the interview. All somewhat distracting.
But I agree it takes a historian to know one. I've bookmarked the site and will see if I can find other interviews with authors of ancient history.
